System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Not long after Wu Xiang left, Xiao Zhaoxi, who finished around the same time, also returned to the emergency department.

Xiao Zhaoxi hadn’t planned on returning to the department after being called to the surgery in the early morning, but this tough battle made him reassess Lu Cheng’s capabilities.

Lu Cheng was still idle, and after ordering food, he stood up proactively: ”Director Xiao, you haven’t gone back to rest yet?”

Xiao Zhaoxi tilted his head slightly, looking a bit stiff: ”Who told you I haven’t gone back?”

”Oh, it was Director Wu from orthopedics who just left here.”

”Director Xiao, why don’t you stay and eat with us? I can ask the boss to add one more serving.” Lu Cheng didn’t have the intention of inviting Wu Xiang to eat, but with Xiao Zhaoxi here, he felt differently.

”Okay.” Xiao Zhaoxi was indeed hungry: ”There’s no special situation in the ward, right?”

Lu Cheng shook his head and continued typing to order: ”Director Xiao, all three patients have been discharged safely, and now the surgical ward is empty, so I can peacefully read here.”

”Director Xiao, do you still want braised pork with preserved mustard greens?” Lu Cheng had a good memory; in the many times he ate boxed meals with Xiao Zhaoxi, at least forty percent of the time he ate braised pork with preserved mustard greens.

Lu Cheng had asked Mu Leng, and Mu Leng said that their generation generally likes to eat a bit of fatty meat because their childhood days were too difficult.

Xiao Zhaoxi sat down, his hands a bit stiff as he patted his knees: ”Xiao Lu, didn’t you tell me last week that you’re going to Long County for surgery?”

”What kind of surgery is it?”

”Is there an emergency surgery in their emergency department waiting specifically for you?”

If the emergency department in Long County could predict emergency cases, then that’s a significant issue.

Lu Cheng shook his head: ”No, it’s just that Director Du Qiang from the Long County emergency department is from a general surgery background. While he has moved to the emergency department ward, he has brought some surgical cases with him.”

”Our custom at Long County Hospital is that whoever can perform surgery gets to decide. Director Du still has regular outpatient duties, and he manages the patients he admits.”

”I heard from people in the department that the patient volume in general surgery has actually decreased by about thirty percent.”

Xiao Zhaoxi digested Lu Cheng’s words: ”So the County Hospital you were at before was also full of strange things.”

After finishing the order and receiving a confirmation from the boss, Lu Cheng put away his phone: ”Indeed, I’ve experienced a lot myself.”

”There, capability is both important and not important; not necessarily the one who can perform surgery is the director.”

At this point, Lu Cheng hinted: ”I just met Director Wu from trauma surgery.”

Lu Cheng wasn’t familiar with the other departments at State People’s Hospital, but he was with trauma surgery.

The trauma surgery department has three senior titles in total. The ward director is an associate chief physician, and the team leader is a chief physician and associate professor.

The title of associate professor is very rare at State People’s Hospital.

This shows how strong the backing of their director must be.

Xiao Zhaoxi understood Lu Cheng’s implication and said: ”Do you think Director Zhu from trauma surgery just wants to be the ward director?”

Lu Cheng’s eyes flashed: ”Director Xiao??!”

”When the other two leaders make mistakes, you have no choice but to step up, even if it’s reluctantly.”

Xiao Zhaoxi said: ”What else can be done? Let an attending take over?”

Lu Cheng smiled awkwardly: ”Thank you, Director Xiao, for clarifying. I thought there was something else...”

”In our hospital, if you’re capable, you can still exchange something. But the prerequisite is you must be solid, with both strong skills and credentials.”

”Of course, there are many temptations too!”

”In our hospital, there are quite a few people who can offer you substantial support.” Xiao Zhaoxi’s voice was calm, not sarcastic about Lu Cheng possibly straying from the right path.

Lu Cheng quickly realized Xiao Zhaoxi was giving him foundational life advice for the future!

If Xiao Zhaoxi wasn’t just putting on a show, then he was genuinely the type who wouldn’t take a penny.

Someone who wouldn’t even accept a banner, it’s hard to even describe him as just noble.

”Director Xiao, Uncle Xiao, thank you for your guidance, I will definitely keep it in mind!” Lu Cheng replied.

”Not only keep it in mind, but keep it in your brain, your hands, your body, and in every organ of yours.”

Finally, Xiao Zhaoxi’s tone became serious: ”If you’re intent on reaching out, any blemish, even the slightest, will keep you in this cage.”

”In our environment, virtue is the least useful thing; it doesn’t bring you anything, but it’s also the most useful!!!”

Xiao Zhaoxi’s words were quite frank.

Keeping it in your hands is understandable, but keeping it in your body, in your organs, what does that mean? It goes without saying.

Previously, Lu Cheng was just an attending physician at a County Hospital, and the scale of drugs and supplies was small. As just an attending, who would seek you out?

But if you gain power in a city-level hospital, the things you encounter, the people you meet will be different.

Lu Cheng took his time pondering the possible meanings behind Xiao Zhaoxi’s words.

Xiao Zhaoxi continued: ”Actually, your current choice is quite correct. The Mu Family, even if they have nothing else, supporting you both to settle down in any city nationwide wouldn’t be a problem.”

”We won’t speak of immense wealth, but that money is enough for you to ignore all the chaos of clinical practice.”

”Make sure you don’t stray off your path.”

Hearing this, Lu Cheng smiled and said: ”I won’t, Uncle Xiao.”

”So why did Director Du Qiang invite you down for a surgical consultation?” Xiao Zhaoxi changed the topic.
