System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

January 17th, Sunday, Sha City, Xiangya Second Hospital Emergency Department.

Professor Zhang Xudong looked at Lu Cheng with some reluctance and smiled, asking, ”Xiao Lu, are you planning to head back right away?”

Lu Cheng met Professor Zhang Xudong’s kind gaze and replied with a smile, ”Yes, Professor Zhang, I have to be on duty tomorrow.”

”I was supposed to be on duty over the weekend, but since you opened the advanced ECMO training class here, I applied to switch shifts.”

”Thank you very much, Professor Zhang, for granting me a place in this advanced class and teaching me so diligently.”

At noon, the closing ceremony of the advanced training class had concluded, and Lu Cheng had received the course completion certificate.

With this in hand, upon returning home, Lu Cheng would be able to perform ECMO rescues on emergency patients independently, as long as his skills were sufficient.

Zhang Xudong said, ”I know you, formerly at Long County People’s Hospital, now at State People’s Hospital, both places where I used to work.”

”If it weren’t for that, I wouldn’t have taken someone else out to make special arrangements for your spot.”

”Ah, I had only heard from Director Xiang and others about your talent, never witnessed it myself.”

”Now I know, I’m really reluctant to see you go back just like that.”

If someone told Zhang Xudong that someone could learn ECMO management from scratch in just three days, Zhang Xudong would slap their teeth out.

Even if they were a senior, Zhang Xudong would still do it.

At worst, he’d apologize or be beaten in return.

But Lu Cheng did it for real, so Zhang couldn’t hit him, as he personally witnessed Lu Cheng operating ECMO independently in clinical practice. While Lu Cheng’s precision in his puncture skill didn’t leave Zhang in awe, it was still much better than his peers in the department.

Hailing from a surgical background, being well-versed in anatomical structure provided a considerable advantage.

Lu Cheng chuckled slightly: ”Thank you for your kindness, Professor Zhang. I still need to return; otherwise, I’d be skipping work.”

”If there’s a chance in the future, I’ll definitely find an opportunity to come back and learn from you, Teacher Zhang.”

Zhang Xudong said, ”I specialize in internal medicine, which you don’t practice, so I can’t teach you much. Just hope you learn well after you go back.”

”I wish you were an internal medicine doctor.”

Lu Cheng replied, ”Teacher Zhang, I can still learn a lot from you.”

”No need to see me off, I’ll catch a ride to the high-speed rail station and try to make it home before evening, then I’ll look over the materials you gave me these past few days and strive to thoroughly understand the theory.”

”The more I learn, the less I waste money, and I don’t waste your efforts, Teacher Zhang.”

The advanced training class fee was expensive, but Lu Cheng felt the experience was invaluable.

Zhang Xudong had specifically added lessons for Lu Cheng, teaching him several ECMO variant pathways, a skill only top-tier emergency departments possess.

The internal medicine department in the Xiangya Second Hospital emergency department is ranked in the top ten nationwide in comprehensive strength, not just by boastful claims.

After saying goodbye to Zhang Xudong, Lu Cheng hailed a taxi by the roadside.

After asking the fare upon getting in, Lu Cheng stepped out with his bag again.

In this day and age, some still try to ”rip people off,” so he turned around and headed into the subway station, switching from Line 6 to Line 2.

After arriving at the high-speed rail station, Lu Cheng even bought two cups of milk tea for takeaway.

...

When Lu Cheng stepped off the train at Ji City high-speed rail station and handed one of the milk teas to Mu Nanshu, he indeed noticed Mu Nanshu’s eyes light up.

No matter what the online reviews said about Tea Yanyueshe, Nanshu was a die-hard fan and had mentioned wanting it several times while in Ji City.

”The ice has melted though.” Lu Cheng said, sipping the milk tea with Mu Nanshu as they headed toward the underground parking lot.

”It’s okay; it still tastes the same.” Nanshu sipped slowly, her face full of satisfaction.

Her cheeks puffed up, clearly enjoying every sip.

”Had I known you liked it so much, you should have come to Sha City with me.” Lu Cheng suggested.

”I wanted to, but wasn’t this weekend spent going back to the hometown?” Nanshu replied.

Remembering this, Lu Cheng immediately asked, ”This time going back home, there wasn’t a conflict between Uncle Mu and your uncle, was there?”

”Just like always, discussing the old issues.”

”My uncle asked my dad to pay for grandpa’s living expenses, and my dad said he could send an aide to take care of grandpa or bring him to Ji City.”

”Pocket money is fine to ask for, care as well, but no monetary handouts!”

”My uncle claimed grandpa preferred living with him, threatened to file a lawsuit, and it was only resolved after involving the police and village officials.”

Lu Cheng was taken aback: ”Is this a joke? What’s the lawsuit about?”

”It’s not a joke; they just want money.”

”But since it’s my uncle and aunt, it’s my dad’s business. As a junior, it’s not appropriate for me to intervene. My dad is also quite angry with them.” Nanshu said.

”Oh, by the way.”

”I heard that the inspection team previously caught my aunt’s nephew, and he definitely can’t keep his position.”

”She even asked my dad to say something nice. Isn’t it funny?”

Lu Cheng wasn’t familiar with Nanshu’s aunt’s relatives, but the harsh words from her aunt about Nanshu had stuck with him.

Lu Cheng confidently stated, ”Surely, you mentioned that I’m currently working at the State Hospital.”

”Look at you.” Nanshu rolled her eyes at Lu Cheng.

Then Lu Cheng swiftly transformed, pulling two big packs of spicy snacks from his backpack.

”Spicy home party!” Nanshu’s eyes lit up.
