Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Nathan Fawcett turned around, his cold gaze fixed on her. ”You’re really leaving?”

Anne Sutton nodded. ”Yeah, I’ve already booked my flight.”

She had booked it right after Nathan Fawcett left her room.

’After all, if I don’t leave now, who knows what kind of mess I’ll get into with this man who already has a partner and a child.’

’With a face like that, it’s just criminal!’

To keep herself from making a mistake, she had to run away first.

Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, ”Fine!”

Anne Sutton asked, ”What’s wrong?”

’It’s not like there’s any reason for me to stay!’

She just felt that the man was being a bit passive-aggressive.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Nothing. It’s good that you’re leaving. Saves me the annoyance of seeing you.”

”...” For some reason, Anne Sutton felt that he was unhappy.

As for why he was unhappy, she couldn’t say.

Anne Sutton said, ”Well, I’m heading back then!”

’Sneaking out to see him was just asking for trouble.’

Anne Sutton really didn’t want any strange rumors to start spreading.

After saying her goodbyes to Nathan Fawcett, she walked away.

...

She went back inside, finished her meal, and when she saw it was about time, she grabbed her luggage and headed out.

At the door, the butler saw her. ”Ms. Sutton, I’ve already arranged a car to take you to the airport.”

Anne Sutton said, ”Thank you! I really appreciate it.”

She had just been wondering if she should call a car herself.

The butler said, ”I wish you a safe journey.”

Anne Sutton looked at the butler, thinking that once she left, she had no idea when she would see him again.

She opened her mouth to ask, ”Nathan... when he left, did he say anything?”

Anne Sutton had originally wanted to go see him, but she didn’t have time now.

After all, if she were to stay, she would have to keep living with the Fawcett Family.

’That would be too awkward!’

The butler was taken aback by Anne Sutton’s question and didn’t know how to answer.

’After all, Nathan Fawcett hadn’t actually left.’

He shook his head. ”No.”

Anne Sutton thought about her relationship with Nathan Fawcett...

From the very beginning, it was just a partnership; there were no real feelings involved.

It was perfectly normal that he hadn’t left any words for her.

Anne Sutton said, ”Well, I’m heading off then.”

”Alright.”

The butler walked over and helped her put her suitcase in the trunk.

”Auntie!” Ian came running out. Seeing Anne Sutton, he cried, ”Are you really leaving!”

Anne Sutton said, ”Yes, Auntie has to go home. I’ll come see you again when I get the chance.”

”When?” Ian stared at her.

Anne Sutton: ”...”

That was a question she really couldn’t answer.

”There will be a chance!”

Ian looked at her. ”I don’t want you to go.”

Anne Sutton was very good to him. She had even helped him teach that chubby kid a lesson today.

Anne Sutton said, ”I don’t want to go either. You’re too adorable, Ian.”

’Unfortunately, this isn’t her child!’

Looking at Ian, Anne Sutton’s longing for her own baby intensified.

...

By the time the plane arrived in Westhaven, it was already past midnight.

Anne Sutton called a car and went straight back to the Fawcett estate, where she lived.

She got out of the taxi and dragged her luggage through the gate.

She saw that the lights were on in the house where Charles Prescott and the others lived.

It looked like Charles Prescott was back!

Anne Sutton carried her luggage and returned to the building in the back.

Once inside, she set her suitcase aside and lay down on the sofa.

She opened her phone and saw a message from Ian. ”Auntie, have you landed yet?”

Anne Sutton replied, ”I’ve arrived.”

’But at this hour, Ian is probably already asleep!’

...

Anne Sutton tidied up a bit, then went upstairs to sleep.

In the morning, Anne Sutton woke up, went downstairs, and made herself a cup of coffee.

The housekeeper who cooked for her came in from outside, carrying freshly bought groceries. She said to Anne Sutton, ”Ma’am, you’re back.”

Anne Sutton said, ”Morning.”

The housekeeper said, ”By the way, I just saw Mr. Sutton arrive.”

The Mr. Sutton the housekeeper mentioned was, of course, Anne Sutton’s father.

Anne Sutton froze for a moment, then asked, ”What is he doing here?”

Because of what happened back then, Anne Sutton had never returned to the Sutton Family home.

Although her mother called her every year, she never once went back.

Of course, no one from the Sutton Family had ever come to visit her, either.

So, hearing that her father was here now, Anne Sutton was quite surprised.

She put down her coffee cup, walked out the door, and as she neared Charles Prescott’s house, she heard Sean Sutton’s voice.

He was saying to Charles Prescott, ”You clearly promised back then that you would marry Anne as soon as she got rid of the baby! So why are you with someone else now?”

Charles Prescott sat on the sofa, listening to Sean Sutton’s words. He rubbed the bridge of his nose. ”It’s a long story with Anne and me. Even if I wanted to marry her, she wouldn’t be willing.”

”Whether she’s willing or not is one thing! You marrying someone else is just wrong! If I hadn’t believed you back then, I never would have done something like that.” As he spoke, Sean Sutton grew increasingly angry.

’I can’t believe Charles Prescott is the kind of person who goes back on his word!’

He was actually getting engaged to that Mia Shaw!

Charles Prescott looked at Sean Sutton and said, ”Mr. Sutton, didn’t you come here today to talk about the company?”

”...” Sean Sutton was at a loss for words.

Charles Prescott regarded him calmly. ”You know very well whether you came here for Anne or for yourself. If you want me to fund your company, you don’t need to put on this high-and-mighty act in front of me. You know I don’t fall for that.”

Sean Sutton said, ”I am here for the company, but also for my daughter! It’s all because of you that Anne won’t even come home anymore. It’s been three years, and she hasn’t returned once. She hates my guts. Since you promised to marry her, you should have followed through, shouldn’t you? So what if she’s mad at you? Can’t you just coax her? I see now you never intended to marry her at all!”

Listening to her father’s words, Anne Sutton was surprised that he was only just now figuring all this out.

Charles Prescott said, ”What, did you come here today to threaten me? You were the one who made your daughter get rid of the baby. Is that my fault, too?”

Sean Sutton said, ”It was clearly because of you...”

”Because of me what?” Charles Prescott raised an eyebrow, acting as if what happened back then had nothing to do with him.

Intimidated by his sharp gaze, Sean Sutton said, ”You know damn well what you did! Charles Prescott, I’m holding back to save you some face! But you haven’t kept a single one of your promises. You said if she got rid of the baby, you’d take care of my company’s issues, but you still haven’t done a thing.”

Charles Prescott said, ”I’ve told you before, your company is failing. With your current abilities, you simply can’t keep it running. I told you to sell the company to me, take the money, and enjoy your retirement, but you refused! I’m a businessman, not a philanthropist. Pouring money into that wreck of a company of yours is like throwing it into a bottomless pit! If you’re really that unhappy, go find Anne! If she comes to me, I might consider helping you.”
