Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Anne Sutton froze for a moment and looked at him.

Nathan Fawcett reached out, pulled her into his arms, and held her.

His body was ice-cold. Anne Sutton was in a terrible mood and had no idea what he was doing.

She didn’t move as he held her, her mind consumed with the day’s events.

’If Miles Prescott dared to warn me like this today, he might do something even more outrageous to punish me if I don’t do as he pleases in the future.’

Her family was undoubtedly her weak spot.

’If it weren’t for her family, she never would have come to Nathan Fawcett and married him. She could have been living her own life.’

But...

’Even so, she knew she absolutely could not give in.’

’If she did, the Sutton Family’s situation would only become more difficult.’

’But right now, how could she get Chairman Fawcett to believe her?’

’She definitely couldn’t be as reckless as she was at the hospital, accusing Miles Prescott so rashly!’

When they returned home, the car stopped at the entrance. Nathan Fawcett looked at the woman in his arms, still lost in thought, and knew she had been frightened.

Although the Sutton Family had to tread carefully these days, she had grown up in a home where she never had to worry about food or clothing.

Something like this was bound to scare her.

Nathan Fawcett took her hand. ”We should get out of the car.”

Hearing his words, Anne Sutton paused for a moment before lifting her head to look at him.

”Okay.”

She quickly got out of the car.

Nathan Fawcett got out as well.

As the night breeze blew, the butler, worried he would get cold, rushed to drape an overcoat over his shoulders.

Nathan Fawcett glanced at Anne Sutton and gave the coat to her instead.

Anne Sutton looked at the man, realizing that ever since she became pregnant, Nathan Fawcett truly did care about this child. Even his attitude toward her had softened considerably.

Now, looking at the coat he handed her, she felt an unexpected sense of reliance on him.

「...」

Back inside, Anne Sutton sat down, and a maid brought her a glass of water.

Nathan Fawcett saw her sitting there, hugging the glass and lost in thought. He advised, ”Get some rest. It’s been a long day for you.”

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and mustered her courage. ”I have something I want to tell you.”

’After thinking it over, she realized that talking to Nathan Fawcett might be the most effective course of action.’

’After all, he didn’t seem to like Miles Prescott.’

But...

’Would he believe such a preposterous story? Would he believe that Miles Prescott was the one who harmed her parents?’

Nathan Fawcett looked at her. ”What do you want to say?”

Anne Sutton said, ”I suspect what happened to my parents wasn’t an accident. I think Miles Prescott did it. He invited my parents to dinner as soon as he returned, but he barely ever visited them during all the years I was engaged to Charles Prescott. I admit I offended him at dinner today, but for him to show such disregard for my family’s lives and warn me in such a way... I’m just so angry...”

As Anne Sutton spoke, she noticed Nathan Fawcett staring at her. At that point, she couldn’t go on.

His expression was as if he were listening to something that had nothing to do with him.

She lowered her head and sighed. ”Forget it! No one will believe me. In this family, who would believe me? Everyone just thinks he’s a good person, and I’m just an ignorant woman. I’m tired. I’m going to take a shower and get some rest.”

She found her own naivety laughable, to have actually expected Nathan Fawcett to believe her.

’He was never one to trust others easily.’

’Even his own family didn’t have his trust, so what chance did she have? She was just a tool for bearing his child.’

After going upstairs, Anne Sutton took a shower, and once she was ready, she lay down to sleep.

She didn’t know when Nathan Fawcett came up.

「...」

The next morning, Anne Sutton woke up very early. In truth, she hadn’t slept well at all.

She sat at the dining table in her pajamas. The family chef had prepared a huge breakfast for her. Since Nathan Fawcett didn’t eat, she was the only one eating.

Before long, someone ran in frantically. ”This is bad! This is bad!”

”What happened?” The butler, standing nearby, glanced at the panicked maid and asked with displeasure.

Anne Sutton was sipping juice from her glass when she heard the maid say, ”Mr. Prescott got into a car accident on his way back today.”

”PFFT...” Anne Sutton, who was drinking her juice, nearly choked on it in shock.

She looked up at the maid in disbelief. ”You’re saying Charles Prescott was in a car accident?”

’Her parents and Sharon had just gotten into an accident last night. How could Charles Prescott also have an accident now?’

’Could it really be such a coincidence?’

’Was everyone just having a bout of bad luck? An unlucky year?’

The maid nodded. ”Yes. Mr. Prescott was just seen rushing to the hospital.”

The thought of Miles Prescott made Anne Sutton realize she was becoming quite vicious. Perhaps it was because her own family’s accident was all his doing. Now that Charles Prescott was in an accident, she couldn’t help but feel it was karma—that the Prescott family deserved it!

’A man like Miles Prescott deserved to feel what it’s like when a loved one gets hurt!’

A cough sounded from the top of the stairs. The butler immediately walked over. ”Mr. Fawcett.”

Nathan Fawcett raised his hand, and the butler supported him as he walked over.

Anne Sutton looked at him and said, ”Morning.”

He sat down beside her and asked, ”Why didn’t you sleep in a little?”

Anne Sutton said, ”I was planning to go to the hospital to see my parents after breakfast.”

’After all, Nathan Fawcett had called her back yesterday, so she couldn’t just completely ignore her parents.’

The butler said, ”I’ve arranged for people to look after them at the hospital.”

”Thank you,” Anne Sutton said. ”But I’d still like to go see them myself.”

’They’re my family, after all!’

’It wouldn’t be right to have others constantly looking after them for me without showing my face.’

Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, ”I’ll go with you.”

Anne Sutton asked, ”Did you go to bed very late last night? Are you sure you’re okay?”

Nathan Fawcett glanced at the nearby maid. ”Didn’t you just say Charles Prescott had an accident? I’ll go check on him.”

”That’s true.”

’He and Charles Prescott are family, so of course he should go see him. To be honest, Anne Sutton also wanted to see what state Charles was in.’

「...」

After breakfast, one of the household maids packed some food for Anne Sutton. Anne took it with her to the car and went to the hospital with Nathan Fawcett.

Originally, Anne Sutton had planned for Nathan Fawcett to visit Charles Prescott while she went straight to see her parents.

But when they passed Charles Prescott’s room, she couldn’t resist the temptation and followed Nathan Fawcett inside for a look.

Miles Prescott was also at the hospital, standing to one side and watching Charles Prescott.

Charles Prescott was lying on the hospital bed. He had multiple scrapes all over his body, and even his handsome face hadn’t escaped injury.

His right leg was severely injured; the doctor said it would require a long recovery.

The car accident had happened at dawn. Charles Prescott had run into trouble as soon as he left the house this morning.

Seeing Nathan Fawcett walk in, Charles Prescott said, ”Uncle.”

He looked utterly disheveled, nothing like his usual dashing and handsome self.

Anne Sutton was also taken aback when she saw him like this.

Charles Prescott’s injuries were much more severe than her parents’!
