Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

”What’s that supposed to mean?” The stout woman was displeased to hear what Nathan Fawcett said. ”Ethan Linden, don’t think that just because you’re the Family Head now, you’re some big shot! The truth is, you’re just an imposter...”

Ethan Linden had died long ago. Nathan Fawcett had been brought back to take his place, a fact everyone in the Linden family was aware of.

Naturally, they looked down on Nathan Fawcett.

Now that he had taken over as Family Head, they were resentful, despite their respectful facades.

Seeing that Nathan Fawcett was now barring her from visiting, her words became completely unfiltered.

Before the stout woman could say another word, Butler Walters had already walked over, clamped a hand over her mouth, and dragged her out.

’Anne Sutton couldn’t be allowed to hear those words!’

...

Anne Sutton stood to the side, watching this scene. She glanced over at Ethan Linden; this man seemed a bit more refined than Nathan Fawcett.

She had thought he must be a relatively nice person.

However, the scene before her reminded Anne Sutton...

...of how Nathan Fawcett seemed to have disciplined Sylvia Warren in the same way before.

She stared at the man before her, feeling a little dazed.

Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, ”Thank you for standing up for Ian!”

Anne Sutton turned her head and met Ian’s gaze. He was already looking at her.

Because she had stood up for him, Ian was very happy.

Even though Anne Sutton wasn’t his mother, he truly felt the warmth of a mother’s protection.

Anne Sutton said, ”You need to spend more time with the child. Don’t always leave him with the maids. There are some things he won’t tell them.”

Nathan Fawcett looked down at her. Hearing her go on about their son like this made it feel as if they were a family.

’...How ironic. Weren’t they supposed to be a family in the first place?’

’If her heart hadn’t belonged to Charles Prescott, if she hadn’t chosen Charles Prescott and abandoned their child, he would have been with her!’

’And Ian wouldn’t be without a mother.’

Nathan Fawcett glanced at her clothes and asked, ”What about the clothes I gave you?”

Anne Sutton replied, ”I haven’t changed yet!”

Nathan Fawcett looked at her. ”What, you’re not satisfied with the clothes?”

”No, that’s not it...” Anne Sutton said. ”I just feel more comfortable in my own clothes.”

Just then, someone walked over. ”Nathan!”

Anne Sutton turned to see Stella Shields walking in.

She was a huge star now.

Enveloped by her celebrity aura, she seemed to sparkle even in simple, casual clothes.

Spotting Nathan Fawcett and Ian, she walked straight over.

When her eyes landed on Anne Sutton, Stella Shields paused for a moment. ”Ms. Sutton.”

For an instant, she almost thought she was seeing things!

Anne Sutton said, ”Ms. Shields, it’s been a long time.”

Ignoring Anne Sutton for the moment, Stella Shields said, ”I just saw you have someone drag your second sister-in-law out. What happened? We’re all family. Even if she isn’t a direct sister-in-law, she’s still your cousin’s wife. If you act like this, people will have another reason to criticize you!”

Many in the Linden family were unhappy about Nathan Fawcett taking Ethan Linden’s place.

After all...

After Ethan Linden died, the Linden Family had no heir. As members of the family themselves—their fathers being the old Family Head’s biological brothers—they thought they had a chance.

They never expected Nathan Fawcett to suddenly appear and take Ethan Linden’s place, completely dashing their hopes.

Naturally, they would find any fault they could with Nathan Fawcett, desperate to drag him down from his position as Family Head.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Her son was bullying Ian.”

”...” Hearing this, Stella Shields lowered her head, glanced at Ian, and said, ”Ian.”

With that, she ruffled his hair.

Ian saw Stella Shields and looked away, ignoring her.

Seeing his cold reaction, Stella Shields looked a little hurt. ”What’s wrong with Ian? You’re ignoring me now? It hasn’t even been that long! I’m heartbroken!”

Anne Sutton was also a little surprised to see this.

’Isn’t Stella Shields Ian’s mother?’

’Why does it seem like the mother and son are strangers?’

Nathan Fawcett said to a maid, ”Take Ian to get changed.”

Then, he looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”You go too!”

Although it was just Ian’s birthday party and not too many people were coming, everyone had dressed up for the occasion.

’Anne Sutton was dressed so casually. Later, she would just blame him for not reminding her!’

Anne Sutton glanced at Stella Shields standing beside them. ’Standing here, I’m definitely intruding on them.’

’After all, who knows how long it’s been since the couple last saw each other.’

’She should at least give them a chance to be alone together.’

’But seeing Stella Shields now, Anne Sutton couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt. After all, just a few hours ago, this very man had been in her bed, being so intimate with her...’

”Well, I’ll go get changed then.” She quickly pulled Ian along and left.

Once Anne Sutton and Ian had gone upstairs, Stella Shields finally turned to Nathan Fawcett, a worried look on her face. ”Why did you bring her back? Aren’t you afraid your mother will be angry if she sees her? You know she doesn’t like you associating with people from the Fawcett Family.”

Especially since...

Anne Sutton was the daughter-in-law personally chosen by Chairman Fawcett back then.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”It’s Ian’s birthday, so she came.”

”Does she know about Ian’s parentage already?” Stella Shields asked, looking at Nathan Fawcett nervously.

After all, when he brought Ian back, he had decided to cut off all contact with Anne Sutton.

”She doesn’t know,” Nathan Fawcett said.

Stella Shields secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Don’t you let it slip.”

Stella Shields replied, ”Don’t worry! I won’t tell her. It’s just...”

She looked at Nathan Fawcett with curiosity. ”Nathan, will you get back together with her?”

Nathan Fawcett frowned at Stella Shields’s question. That woman was indeed very special to him.

And seeing her struggling, he felt the urge to protect her.

But...

’If it came to marrying her, he was truly unwilling.’

’After all, she was the one who had wronged his child!’

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I won’t trust her again like I did before.”

Stella Shields said, ”Sigh... Ms. Sutton was with Charles Prescott for so many years; they were bound to have developed feelings. Women are sentimental creatures. You can’t really blame her for everything!”

...

Upstairs, Anne Sutton first went to Ian’s room to help him change his clothes.

She asked Ian, ”Why weren’t you happy to see your mother?”

Ian replied, ”She doesn’t even let me call her ’Mom’.”

”Why?” Anne Sutton was puzzled.

Ian shook his head. ”I don’t know either. You’re the best to me, Auntie!”

...

After helping Ian change, Anne Sutton came out of his room, intending to get changed herself, only to see Stella Shields standing in the doorway.

Seeing Stella Shields, Anne Sutton’s heart sank. She felt a thief’s guilty conscience.

Bracing herself, she said to Stella Shields, ”Ms. Shields.”

Stella Shields looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”It’s been a long time.”

Anne Sutton said, ”It has been a few years. I even saw one of your posters on the street recently, Ms. Shields.”
