Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Ever since she had the child, she could hardly ever see Charles Prescott, except for the holidays.

He was too busy. Every time she reached out, he was occupied with something.

In fact, he hadn’t spent any time alone with her in the past three years.

But she...

She was the mother of his child now. She was always so sure she would be able to marry into the Prescott Family.

After all, Mrs. Prescott was very fond of her.

Seeing him now, she naturally hoped to spend more time with him.

Charles Prescott looked at Sylvia Warren. The original plan had been for her to leave right after giving birth.

But at the time, considering the child was young and needed a mother, he had allowed her to stay with Mrs. Prescott to look after him.

He’d never imagined that she would now have the audacity to cause a scene at his engagement ceremony!

Charles Prescott looked at her. ”You know I’ve always preferred obedient women.”

Sylvia Warren was taken aback by his words. For the past few years, she had assumed she had nothing to fear with Mrs. Prescott backing her.

But Charles Prescott’s words now made her heart sink.

Though his expression remained gentle and refined, Sylvia Warren was still frightened.

Her confidence wavered. ”I’ll go check on Leo.”

With that, she quickly hurried out.

Anne Sutton was sitting in the hotel’s second-floor restaurant when she saw Charles Prescott emerge from an elevator, mobbed by people.

”Mr. Prescott, are you still planning to get engaged to Miss Shaw?”

”What is your current relationship with Miss Sylvia Warren? You two even have a child together. Have you considered getting married?”

”...”

Bodyguards were trying to hold them back at the sides.

Despite their efforts, the clamor was giving Charles Prescott a headache.

He looked up, only to see Anne Sutton sitting by the second-floor railing. A smile played on her lips, one full of derision.

He looked at her but didn’t acknowledge her, walking straight out of the hotel.

...

「That evening.」

In a private dining room, Anne Sutton was drinking.

Vera Wells was in Veridia for a professional exchange program. Since she was free that night, she came to have dinner with Anne, along with a few colleagues from the hospital.

Vera Wells sat beside her and watched her. ”You should drink a little less.”

Anne Sutton replied, ”It’s fine. It’s not often I get a break.”

”You never used to drink.” ’Ever since what happened with her child, she’s been just like this!’

’Whenever she had free time, she just had to drink herself into a stupor.’

Anne Sutton looked at Vera Wells. ”Don’t worry, I’m fine. I can really hold my liquor now!”

Everyone was in the middle of dinner; some were still eating, while others were drinking.

Vera Wells was looking at her phone. ”Oh, by the way,” she said to Anne Sutton, ”I just saw that Sylvia Warren is trending online.”

Sylvia Warren had caused a scene at the hospital before, turning Anne Sutton into a laughingstock, so everyone there had a vivid impression of her.

Hearing Vera Wells’s comment, Anne Sutton leaned over to take a look and saw that Sylvia Warren was in the entertainment section.

Before she got involved with Charles Prescott, she was just a fledgling actress. She’d had supporting roles in a couple of hit productions but had never really made a name for herself.

But now, she was trending for crashing Charles Prescott’s engagement ceremony with a child in tow.

Anne Sutton commented, ”This is probably the most famous she’s ever been in her life.”

”No kidding!” said Vera Wells. ”If she hadn’t caused that scene at the hospital, I would’ve never even known an actress by her name existed. But won’t Charles Prescott be furious with her for acting like this?”

”He’d better be,” said Anne Sutton. ”If he isn’t angry, then all my arrangements would have been for nothing, right?”

”You arranged this?” Vera Wells looked at Anne Sutton in astonishment.

Anne Sutton nodded. ”Mhm.”

Vera said, ”Girl, you’re incredible! They deserve it. Let them tear each other apart!”

...

By the time they finished dinner and headed out, Anne Sutton was completely wasted.

Vera Wells held her steady. ”Let me get you back to your hotel.”

”No need,” Anne Sutton slurred. ”I can get back by myself. I’m not drunk. I’m totally sober!”

Vera Wells stared at her and scoffed, ”Yeah, ’totally sober.’ You’re so out of it you wouldn’t even know if someone sold you.”

The day had been quite hot, but the evening breeze brought a welcome chill.

”I’ll call a car,” Vera Wells said. ”Just wait here a second.”

Anne Sutton stood by the curb, feeling as if her body was floating.

’She liked this feeling!’

’This way, she wouldn’t remember how helpless she had been back then, so powerless that she couldn’t even save her child.’

”Mr. Linden, thank you for your time today!”

A car pulled up to the entrance as a group of people walked out of the adjacent hotel.

Anne Sutton squinted, her eyes landing on the man at the center of the group. He had the exact same face as Nathan Fawcett.

’It had been over three years. She never thought she would see him again!’

As if he had some magical pull on her, Anne Sutton walked straight toward him...

Vera Wells was on the phone, giving the driver their location. ”That’s right, right here next to the hotel.”

When she looked up, she saw Anne Sutton charging straight toward the group of people at the curb.

She glanced at the emblem on the car and recognized it as belonging to the Linden Family.

The Linden Family was the wealthiest family in all of Veridia.

’Anna Linden was the family’s only daughter!’

’She sometimes drove a car just like this to and from work, one with the Linden Family’s exclusive ”L” emblem.’

’And now, her colleague, her good friend Anne Sutton—that drunken madwoman—had actually charged over and thrown her arms around that man.’

”Nathan!”

Anne Sutton hugged the man in front of her. For years, every time she got drunk, Nathan Fawcett would appear in her dreams. It had happened so often that she no longer held back.

She was so drunk now, she just assumed this was another one of those dreams.

The man before her was impeccably dressed, looking dapper and distinguished. The business associates who had been dining with him, however, were frozen in shock at the sight.

Everyone knew about President Linden’s temper.

When he lost his temper, who wasn’t left trembling in fear?

People had tried to curry favor with him in the past by using a honey trap, sending beautiful women his way, but who knows how many had been unceremoniously thrown out.

Yet this drunken madwoman had just hugged Mr. Linden, looking for all the world like she was about to wipe her tears and snot all over his suit.

Nathan Fawcett stood by the car, having just finished a business dinner. He was somewhat stunned as he stared at the woman who had suddenly appeared and thrown her arms around him.

He hadn’t expected it either—to run into her today, after so many years, completely out of the blue.

’And she really had some nerve, just charging at him like that!’

The moment she cried out ”Nathan,” he almost felt transported back to his days with the Fawcett Family...

Seeing this, Vera Wells rushed over anxiously. ”I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry! My friend has had too much to drink. I’ll take her away right now!”

She then turned to Anne Sutton. ”Anne, you’ve got the wrong person! Come on, let’s go. Our car is here!”

Although Nathan Fawcett had been treated at Westhaven Hospital in the past, he had looked sickly and unkempt back then—a completely different person from the man before them now.

Even Vera Wells couldn’t possibly have recognized him.

Only Anne Sutton had seen Nathan Fawcett meticulously dressed up to have dinner with his mother. He had looked exactly like this.
