Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Charles Prescott listened to her and said, ”Of course not!”

’If it weren’t for her, if he didn’t want to keep her by his side, why would he care if the Sutton Family lived or died?’

He knew Anne Sutton was just saying these things out of anger.

But right now, he was more afraid that Anne Sutton would further offend his father.

Today’s outcome was already the best possible result under the circumstances. His father hadn’t acted ruthlessly yet!

He looked at Anne Sutton, not wanting to argue with her about this. He just said, ”No matter what, my dad has been your elder for so many years. You shouldn’t act like this in front of him. Even with Nathan Fawcett backing you, do you think he can be with you twenty-four hours a day? Besides, he’ll be leaving in less than two months. Are you sure you’ll really be able to handle my dad then?”

Charles Prescott’s words made Anne Sutton fall silent.

Seeing that his words had gotten through to her, Charles Prescott took a deep breath. ”Anne, I’m begging you. I’m really saying all this for your own good. Let’s terminate the pregnancy, okay? If you want children, we can have as many as you want after Nathan Fawcett leaves. But don’t keep this one. I’ll be scared... scared that I can’t protect you properly. Do you understand?”

As he spoke, his eyes were exceptionally sincere. He was genuinely frightened.

’His father was determined to have everything the Fawcett Family possessed; he would never tolerate anyone disrupting his plans.’

If this continued, he was truly afraid Anne Sutton would have some kind of ”accident.”

Anne Sutton said, ”If I were to get an abortion now, that would mean I’m truly afraid of you and your father.”

Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott and said, ”Or have you and your dad planned this? Are you deliberately putting on a good cop, bad cop routine in front of me? Do you think I’ll just give up because of this?”

Charles Prescott hadn’t expected that after worrying about her for so long, this was what she thought of him.

He was a little hurt. ”In your heart, is that all I am to you? Can’t you have even the slightest bit of trust in me?”

”No! I can’t!”

Charles Prescott said, ”Do you really hate me that much?”

”Do I need to remind you that you were out shopping with your dear Vera just this afternoon?”

”I’ve already sent her away. To my grandmother’s place.”

Charles Prescott’s grandmother didn’t live here but in another city, several hundred kilometers away.

Charles Prescott said, ”She’ll go there to carry the baby to term. After the child is born, I’ll have nothing more to do with her. Is that still not acceptable?”

”...” Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott, almost laughing at his audacity. ”You think that’s acceptable?”

’Is he really that clueless, or does he just think I’m that cheap?’

He was about to have a child with another woman, yet he didn’t seem to think he had done anything wrong at all.

As the two were talking, there was a knock on the nearby door. Anne Sutton looked up and saw the butler and Nathan Fawcett standing there.

Seeing him, Anne Sutton froze for a moment. ’That guy... why is he here?’

Charles Prescott saw Nathan Fawcett and said, ”Uncle!”

’Damn it! He’d thought Nathan Fawcett would be at home recuperating given his poor health. After all, he’d always been unconcerned with matters that didn’t involve him.’

’So why make a special trip to the hospital now? Could he be here to see Anne Sutton’s parents?’

Nathan Fawcett said in a low voice, ”Are you finished talking?”

Anne Sutton said, ”We’re finished.”

Nathan Fawcett glanced at her. ”Aren’t you coming over here?”

Anne Sutton quickly walked to his side, like a child who had done something wrong.

Although she had no feelings for Nathan Fawcett, and his recent relationship with Stella Shields was ambiguous, she was still his wife. Being caught with Charles Prescott made her feel guilty, after all.

After all, Nathan Fawcett had gotten angry about this before.

She followed behind Nathan Fawcett as they left, leaving Charles Prescott outside.

Nathan Fawcett walked ahead. He wasn’t walking fast, and he raised a fist to his lips and began to cough.

Seeing this, Anne Sutton hurried forward to support him. ”You’re not well. Why did you come all the way over here instead of resting at home?”

Nathan Fawcett looked up at her. ”If I hadn’t come, how would I have discovered you on a date with Charles Prescott?”

”...” The word ”date” made Anne Sutton frown. ”We were just discussing something. It’s not what you think.”

Nathan Fawcett glanced at her and asked, ”Where are your parents?”

”In their hospital room,” Anne Sutton said, looking at him. ”You didn’t come here to see them, did you?”

”Are they badly injured?”

”They’re minor injuries. My mother hit her head, so the doctor said she should stay for observation. Do you want to go see them?”

’Thinking of how her parents were intimidated by Nathan Fawcett, she realized that if he went to see them, it wouldn’t comfort them at all. On the contrary, it would probably scare them so much they couldn’t relax.’

Fortunately, Nathan Fawcett wasn’t without self-awareness. ”No. Since they’re fine, I won’t go.”

Seeing that he really had come to show concern for her parents, Anne Sutton said, ”Thank you, Mr. Fawcett.”

’But... she didn’t know how to tell him about Miles Prescott. Besides, even if she told him, would Nathan Fawcett believe her?’

Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”I’ll give you five minutes. Go say goodbye to them. I’ll be waiting in the car.”

”...” Hearing this, Anne Sutton asked, ”Can I stay at the hospital tonight to take care of them?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”No.”

’...He was being so unreasonable. Her whole family was injured, yet he wouldn’t let her stay at the hospital to be with them!’

Seeing her feeling wronged, Nathan Fawcett added, ”You might be able to handle it, but the baby can’t. I don’t want anything to happen to my child.”

His reminder made Anne Sutton remember that she was pregnant.

She said, ”But, my family is injured. If I’m not at the hospital...”

The butler knew what she was worried about. ”Don’t worry, Madam,” he said. ”I will make all the necessary arrangements at the hospital. I guarantee your parents and sister will be well taken care of.”

Anne Sutton glanced at him. For now, she had no choice but to go along with their arrangements.

She went to the hospital room. Her father was already lying down on the adjacent bed, and the person the butler had arranged for had also arrived.

Anne Sutton said, ”Dad, Mom, I’m heading back now.”

Mrs. Sutton said, ”Go on, dear. We’re fine. Don’t you worry. You’re going to be a mother now.”

Her mother’s gentle words made Anne Sutton’s eyes well up.

She turned and walked out the door.

Anne Sutton walked out of the hospital and saw Nathan Fawcett’s car parked there. She got in and saw him leaning back with his eyes closed, resting.

Anne Sutton didn’t disturb him.

She was in a terrible mood. Even though Miles Prescott hadn’t admitted to anything, the harm her parents had suffered terrified her.

Just thinking about it now made her body tremble with fear.

After all, if the car crash had been any more serious, she could have lost her parents and her sister...

Nathan Fawcett looked up and saw her leaning against the car door like a fragile, helpless fawn, lost in her worry and fear.

He raised his hand and placed it on her shoulder...
