Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

When she was over seven months pregnant, during a hot spell, Anne Sutton went to the hospital for a prenatal check-up.

As she came out of the hospital, she saw Charles Prescott’s car parked at the entrance.

He rolled down the window and said, ”Get in.”

The Fawcett family’s driver had brought Anne to the hospital.

After all, with her belly getting so big, it was no longer suitable for her to drive.

She looked at Charles Prescott and asked, ”Where’s the driver?”

”I gave him the day off,” he said, then looked at Anne. ”What, not happy to see me?”

Anne’s face was expressionless. ”Of course not.”

She opened the car door and got in.

Lately, she had been in constant contact with Charles Prescott.

Because of this, Miles Prescott was convinced the child in her belly was Charles’s, so he hadn’t made any moves against the baby.

Of course, it wasn’t without its sacrifices.

To keep Charles Prescott on her side, she sometimes had to go out to eat with him and the like.

Anne Sutton sat down in the car. As Charles Prescott drove, the faint scent of perfume drifted from him.

Anne frowned. ”Are you wearing perfume?”

Hearing her, Charles said, ”Am I? I must have picked it up from somewhere by accident.”

Anne looked at him, her expression complicated. ”Is that so?”

’As if I’d ever believe a word he says!’

No matter what, Charles Prescott would always be Charles Prescott.

After Nathan Fawcett passed away, Charles had actually been quite good to her. He didn’t hold her past with Nathan against her, nor did he seem to mind the child in her belly. He would even speak to her gently when they had dinner.

But he...

He was never short of women on the side!

Charles Prescott said, ”If you don’t like it, I’ll go change my clothes right now.”

After speaking, he turned up the car’s air conditioning.

Anne sat beside him. She didn’t care what kind of person he was now, but... she just couldn’t stand seeing him spew one lie after another!

”If you’re so busy, why waste your time on me?”

Charles Prescott said, ”It’s because I’m worried about you, isn’t it? The baby in your belly is the heir to the Fawcett family. I have to treasure you both.”

Anne looked at him. ”You expect me to believe you? Just say it. Why did you come looking for me today?”

”It’s nothing, I just missed you!” Charles said as he drove. ”Anne, you never believe that I love you, but only I know how much I truly care about you.”

”...”

Hearing his words, Anne found it laughable.

Charles reached out, took her hand, and said, ”Every word I’m saying is true.”

Anne pulled her hand away. ”It’s boiling in here. Don’t touch me.”

She felt repulsed by the mere touch of his hand.

Charles glanced at her. ”Alright! Let’s get down to business. The Chairman is sick.”

”...” Anne looked at Charles. ”When did this happen?”

”You’ve been back at the Sutton family home for the past two days, so you wouldn’t know. He’s seriously ill,” Charles said. ”That’s why I came to pick you up to see him.”

Anne was skeptical at first, but she followed Charles to the Fawcett estate. When she went upstairs, she saw Miles Prescott standing to one side, surrounded by a crowd of Fawcett family relatives.

Chairman Fawcett was lying in bed. Seeing Anne enter behind Charles, he called out, ”Anne.”

Anne walked over. ”Dad, are you alright?”

He was Nathan Fawcett’s father, so he had asked her to call him that.

After Nathan passed away, this was how Anne had always addressed him.

Chairman Fawcett looked at Anne and said, ”You must safely deliver our family’s child. This is Nathan’s only child.”

He finished speaking and patted the back of Anne’s hand, his face filled with resignation.

Anne said, ”How could you be...”

She had always thought Chairman Fawcett was in good health. She never expected him to suddenly become so gravely ill.

Chairman Fawcett said, ”Actually, my health has been failing for a long time. The doctors told me my condition was poor long ago. I just didn’t want to worry you all.”

Anne never imagined that after just having said goodbye to Nathan, she would now have to say goodbye to his father.

Chairman Fawcett looked at Miles Prescott and the others in the room. ”Take good care of the Fawcett family’s child.”

Miles Prescott stood to the side and said to Chairman Fawcett, ”Rest assured! I will definitely take good care of Nathan’s child.”

He spoke with such sincerity that it was impossible to tell he had any designs on the Fawcett family.

Because Chairman Fawcett still had matters to arrange, Anne left the room first.

She wasn’t familiar with anything in this household. Between all the relatives and Chairman Fawcett’s friends, there were few she even recognized.

Anne stood by the door, and a few moments later, she heard the sounds of everyone weeping as Chairman Fawcett passed away.

...

Later that night, Anne lay in bed. For some reason, she dreamt of the first time she and Nathan Fawcett had been together.

Back then, she didn’t know him well and was quite scared of him.

When he touched her, his hands were always cold...

Anne’s eyes shot open. She stared at the empty room. This was the place where Nathan had lived. After he was gone, the maids had packed away many of his things.

And yet, she could still picture him, sometimes sitting somewhere reading a book, or the way he looked when he lost his temper.

...

’I used to be so scared of him, but now I’m not afraid at all. Instead, I just feel a bit of regret. Why is he gone?’

Chairman Fawcett’s funeral was over.

However, she kept dreaming of Nathan Fawcett these past few days, always feeling as if he were still by her side.

Anne sat up. Suddenly, someone knocked on the door.

She didn’t say anything, but the person outside had already pushed the door open and walked in.

Seeing Charles Prescott appear at the doorway, Anne froze for a moment. ”What are you doing here?”

Charles stood in the doorway and looked at her. ”Can’t sleep?”

Anne sat up and said to Charles, ”What are you doing here?”

He and his father were living in the main building, while she was living alone in this one.

Yet here he was, coming over to her place in the middle of the night.

Charles looked at her and said, ”I wanted to come and check on you.”

With that, he walked over and sat on the edge of the bed.

Now that Chairman Fawcett was gone, Miles and Charles Prescott were the ones calling all the shots in the Fawcett family.

Anne suppressed her displeasure and said to Charles, ”I’m going to sleep now.”

Charles’s voice was very gentle. ”You go ahead and sleep. I’ll stay with you.”

Anne leaned back against her pillow, looking at the man before her, completely on guard. ”How am I supposed to sleep with you here?”

Charles reached out and took her hand.

Anne hated it when he touched her. Although for now he only held her hand and didn’t do anything else inappropriate, the thought of whose hands he usually held made her feel agitated.

However, right now, her child’s fate was in his hands. If his father found out the baby wasn’t Charles’s, she couldn’t imagine...

So she forced herself to endure it.

Charles looked at Anne and said, ”Anne, let’s get rid of the baby.”

”...” Anne knew this day would come.
