Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Miles Prescott turned his head. Seeing Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett, his tone lacked the politeness he had shown Nathan before. ”What are you two doing here?”

Anne Sutton saw his worried expression and said, ”Mr. Prescott, you were so smug in front of me just last night. I never thought your precious son would get his retribution so soon. It just goes to show, people should do fewer bad deeds.”

Anne Sutton’s words were undoubtedly rubbing salt in Miles Prescott’s wound.

His face darkened. ”Did you come all this way just to kick me while I’m down? Sean Sutton certainly raised a fine daughter!”

At this moment, even Miles Prescott, who was accustomed to wearing a fake smile, couldn’t stop his true colors from showing. He looked like he wanted to strangle her.

Anne Sutton looked at him. ”My, my, Mr. Prescott, have you lost your composure? Weren’t you quite calm last night?”

Remembering the gentle facade he had put on in front of the hospital director, Anne Sutton felt disgusted.

’Serves him right!’

’So when the same thing happens to him, he gets agitated and angry too, huh?’

Charles Prescott said to Anne Sutton, ”Don’t talk to my dad like that.”

’She must have a death wish!’

Seeing that he was injured, she didn’t seem the least bit upset. Instead, she was only focused on mocking his father.

’She really is a cold-blooded, heartless woman.’

At that thought, Charles Prescott felt his injuries ache even more.

Anne Sutton glanced at him, taking in his pitiful state. His father didn’t usually dote on him so much, but now it was clear that Miles Prescott truly cared about this son.

After all, Charles was his only son, and a more suitable candidate to inherit from the Fawcett Family than Miles himself was.

Miles Prescott said to Nathan Fawcett, ”Nathan, control your woman.”

Nathan Fawcett looked down at Anne Sutton and said, ”Go see your parents first.”

Anne Sutton had said all she wanted to say and had no desire to stay any longer, so she walked straight out the door.

Nathan Fawcett remained in the hospital room. He looked at Charles Prescott and asked, ”Are you alright?”

Charles Prescott replied, ”I’m fine. Thank you for your concern, Uncle.”

”We’re family,” Nathan said. ”It’s only right.”

He usually treated the Prescott father and son poorly, but today he seemed exceptionally gentle and polite.

Miles Prescott stared at him, completely unable to maintain his usual phony act in front of Nathan Fawcett.

If he hadn’t just learned that Nathan Fawcett had arranged all of this, he would have almost believed that Nathan had genuinely come to visit.

The butler said, ”We’ve brought some food for Mr. Prescott. It’s a token of our master’s concern. We hope you will rest and recover well.”

After speaking, he placed the thermal container to the side.

Nathan Fawcett coughed twice. ”I’m not in the best of health, so I won’t disturb your rest any longer.”

With that, he had the butler help him out the door.

”Wait!” Just as they were leaving Charles Prescott’s room, Miles Prescott followed them out.

Nathan Fawcett stopped and looked at Miles Prescott. ”Brother, why aren’t you inside with Charles? What brings you out?”

Miles Prescott had already been there for a long time.

He looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”I really must thank you, Nathan, for this grand ’gift’ you’ve given me!”

Nathan replied calmly, ”You’re too kind, Brother. It was nothing. Isn’t this what family is for? To look out for one another.”

”Charles has called you ’Uncle’ for so many years. Don’t you think what you did was a bit too cruel?”

”Cruel?” the butler retorted dismissively. ”For years, our master hasn’t concerned himself with the Fawcett Family’s affairs due to his health, which gave you and your son the opportunity to get ahead in the Fawcett Group. But it’s been too long, and I’m afraid you’ve forgotten, Mr. Prescott, who in this family is actually named Fawcett, and who is the true heir! It is only natural that our master would want to take back his birthright as the heir to the Fawcett Group.”

Miles Prescott said, ”I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Nathan Fawcett, who had been looking down, lifted his head and glanced at him upon hearing his words.

The butler looked at Miles Prescott and spoke on Nathan Fawcett’s behalf. ”We all know perfectly well what’s been happening with the Sutton Family. As for what happened to your son, our master is just giving you a little reminder. If you dare to touch his people, this is the consequence! If anything else happens to the Sutton Family, your son’s fate won’t be any better.”

Miles Prescott had never taken Nathan Fawcett seriously. He just thought Nathan had a bad temper, but other than that, he wasn’t someone to be feared.

He was only polite to Nathan Fawcett out of respect for the Chairman. He never expected Nathan would act so ruthlessly in this matter.

Worse, Nathan Fawcett had deliberately let him know that he was the one behind it.

”You’re completely audacious!”

Miles Prescott pointed at Nathan Fawcett, truly wishing he would just hurry up and die.

Nathan Fawcett knew what Miles Prescott was thinking. He let out a soft huff and said in a gentle tone, unlike the butler’s harshness, ”Brother, feel free to go tell my father that I did this. Let him punish me as he sees fit!”

Seeing his fearless demeanor, Miles Prescott realized he was dealing with a madman!

’It makes sense. With less than two months to live, he doesn’t value his life at all.’

’Besides, given how much Chairman Fawcett dotes on Nathan Fawcett, even if I took evidence to him, the Chairman wouldn’t protect me and Charles. He would only protect his biological son, Nathan!’

Miles Prescott had also considered going to the police, but if he made a big deal out of it and it affected the Fawcett Family’s reputation, it would still ruin his image in the Chairman’s eyes. Then, even after Nathan Fawcett was gone, any hope of inheriting the Fawcett fortune would be lost.

So, Nathan Fawcett was deliberately provoking him!

He was probably hoping Miles would cause a scene. That way, even after Nathan was gone, no one would be qualified to compete with his child for the inheritance!

After careful consideration, Miles Prescott suppressed his anger. His usual smile returned to his face as he said, ”Nathan, don’t say that. We’re brothers. Let’s just say this time, you were disciplining my disappointing son for me. Now that our sister-in-law is pregnant, I will definitely keep a close eye on the Sutton Family for her and make sure she isn’t frightened again.”

It was precisely because he was wary of Nathan Fawcett that he hadn’t acted against Anne Sutton directly; he was afraid of being too obvious.

He had only intended to use the Sutton Family to show Anne Sutton the consequences and make her back down. If she decided to get rid of the baby herself, that would have been for the best.

’But I never expected...’

That madman Nathan Fawcett had given him such a ’grand gift’ directly.

Now, not only could he not touch the Sutton Family, he even had to protect them.

Otherwise, he was genuinely afraid that the next time he saw Charles Prescott, it wouldn’t be just a leg injury like today.

...

In the hospital room, Anne Sutton held a bowl of soup, feeding Mrs. Sutton.

Mrs. Sutton took two sips and said to Anne, ”You’ve really been... It’s not as serious as you think. I can eat by myself.”

Anne Sutton’s mood was noticeably better today than yesterday. After all, Charles Prescott’s fate today showed her that no one in this world is completely untouchable.

She said to Mrs. Sutton, ”Let me feed you.”

Mrs. Sutton couldn’t help but laugh. ”Oh, you! Don’t you have to work lately? Maybe you should go back to the office!”
