Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

He stiffened upon seeing her. After a quick word with the people beside him, he walked over.

He stared at her. ”What are you doing here?”

Anne Sutton, seated on the sofa, picked up the glass in front of her. She took a sip of wine and said, ”My dear nephew is getting engaged today. Naturally, I came to congratulate you!”

He had deceived her father and forced her to abort their child, all while promising he would marry her. Yet here he was, getting engaged to another woman.

Of course, Anne Sutton had known from the start that Charles Prescott would never marry her. He was a man who cared deeply about his reputation. Why would he ever marry a widow like her?

But looking at his hypocritical expression, she desperately wanted to rip that mask of his right off.

Charles Prescott said, ”My engagement to Mia Shaw is just a partnership between our two companies. It’s all an act; I’m not actually going to marry her. Besides, even if I were to marry you, you wouldn’t agree, would you? So what’s the point of all this? Aren’t you busy with work? And you came all this way without even telling me.”

He appeared calm, but... it was obvious he was actually quite nervous.

Ever since losing the baby, Anne Sutton had been like a madwoman. She’d cut ties with her own family but still hadn’t moved out of the Fawcett estate.

The more she acted this way, the more uncertain Charles Prescott felt about her intentions. He was terrified that she, now fearless, would do something insane.

Furthermore, many of today’s guests were longtime figures from the Fawcett Group and close friends of Chairman Fawcett. They knew Anne Sutton.

Even after the tragic loss of her child, she was still part of the Fawcett Family, Nathan Fawcett’s daughter-in-law. Everyone treated her with considerable respect.

Naturally, Charles Prescott didn’t dare make things difficult for her in front of them.

Anne Sutton said, ”I just came to have a celebratory drink. Is that a problem? What, am I, your aunt, not worthy of attending your engagement ceremony? Or are you trying to kick me out?”

Charles Prescott stared at her. ”Anne, please go home for now. I’ll have someone escort you.”

Then, he turned to Henry Underwood. ”Take her home.”

’He was genuinely terrified of what trouble this lunatic would stir up!’

’And he would never believe her bullshit about just being here for a celebratory drink!’

Anne Sutton said, ”I came all this way, and you’re trying to kick me out already! I brought you a gift, and I haven’t even given it to you yet!”

”A gift?” Charles Prescott looked at Anne Sutton, wondering what she meant.

Anne Sutton met his gaze and said, ”You’ll love it.”

Just then, Mia Shaw walked over. She seemed a little surprised to see Anne Sutton there. ”It’s time,” she said to Charles Prescott.

Charles Prescott glanced at Mia Shaw, then back at Anne Sutton. Uneasy as he was, he could only go and tend to the ceremony.

Soon, the emcee was on the stage, and the parents of both families had arrived.

Charles Prescott and Mia Shaw also took their places on stage.

The emcee began to speak, announcing the engagement of Charles Prescott and Mia Shaw...

However, just as he finished, someone burst in through the doorway, shouting, ”I object!”

Anne Sutton, still at her table, watched the newcomers. It was none other than Sylvia Warren, accompanied by a three-year-old boy and a white-haired old woman.

Charles Prescott froze when he saw them. ’Why is Grandma here?’

The three-year-old boy paid no mind to anyone else as he ran straight for Charles Prescott, clinging to his leg. ”Daddy, you don’t want me anymore! WAAAH! Daddy...”

The media was present, cameras flashing. They had come to cover the engagement of Mia Shaw and Charles Prescott but never imagined they’d find out Charles Prescott had a three-year-old son.

But that wasn’t all.

Sylvia Warren came forward as well. Looking at Charles Prescott, she cried, ”Darling, you said you were going to marry me! You lied!”

Charles Prescott’s face darkened. ”Why are you here?” he said in a low voice. ”Henry, get her out of here.”

Mrs. Prescott, standing nearby, glared at Charles Prescott. Completely ignoring the occasion, she declared, ”If you dare marry this woman today, I’ll take Leo and we’ll both die. There’s no justice in this world!”

Sylvia Warren had been living with Mrs. Prescott since her pregnancy, and now that she had given the Prescott family a son, the old woman doted on her great-grandson and was very fond of Sylvia as well.

Seeing Charles about to marry Mia Shaw and do Sylvia wrong, she was naturally on Sylvia’s side.

The reporters stood by, watching the scene unfold, their cameras snapping away. CLICK! CLICK! CLICK!

Mia Shaw’s parents’ faces turned grim as they watched.

They never would have imagined that Charles Prescott already had a son!

Mr. Shaw looked at his daughter and said, ”The engagement is off. We’re leaving!”

This was a humiliation they could not afford!

Just like that, the Shaw family was gone.

Miles Prescott’s face darkened as he watched the scene unfold.

Charles Prescott glanced at Leo beside him and scooped the boy into his arms.

He always maintained a gentle, refined public image, so he couldn’t possibly treat his own son too harshly in front of the cameras.

He walked off the stage and asked Sylvia Warren, ”Who told you to come?”

”If Anne Sutton hadn’t told me, I would have never known you were getting engaged today. Do you have any idea how hard it was giving birth to Leo for you? I nearly died, and you... you actually...”

Hearing Anne Sutton’s name, Charles Prescott looked toward her. He saw her still sitting there, calmly sipping her wine.

’So this was her ’grand gift’ to him!’

Seeing him staring, Anne Sutton didn’t hesitate. She stood up, walked over, and looked at Leo in Charles Prescott’s arms. She reached out and pinched the boy’s cheek. ”Leo, don’t cry. Look at this little fella, you’ve cried yourself into such a state!”

The corner of Charles Prescott’s mouth twitched. ’She actually has the nerve to stand here and coo at my child!’

’He never imagined Anne Sutton would actually bring Sylvia Warren here!’

Her goal achieved, Anne Sutton looked to be in an excellent mood. ”Well, it seems the engagement is off for today,” she said cheerfully. ”I’ll be on my way, then. I won’t intrude any longer.”

With that, she looked at Charles Prescott, a smirk playing on her lips, and turned to leave.

’From the day he forced her to get rid of their child, she had sworn an oath: she would never let him have a single day of peace.’

Sylvia Warren stood aside, watching Anne Sutton walk away. Charles Prescott watched her go, wanting nothing more than to chase after her and strangle her. Sylvia grabbed his arm. ”Darling.”

Charles Prescott turned back, glanced at Sylvia Warren, then at Mrs. Prescott. ”Henry!” he called out.

”Yes, sir,” Henry Underwood replied.

”Take Madam Prescott and the young master to the lounge.”

Henry Underwood nodded. He said to Mrs. Prescott and Leo, ”Let’s go to the lounge for now. Mr. Prescott has other matters to attend to, and there are a lot of reporters here. It wouldn’t be good to get photographed any more.”

Seeing that the engagement ceremony was already ruined, Mrs. Prescott didn’t argue. She allowed herself to be led to the lounge.

Sylvia Warren remained by his side. Looking at Charles Prescott, she said, ”Darling.”
