Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Anne Sutton flinched. She opened her eyes to feel Nathan Fawcett kissing her.

His body had always been this cold. It was just that before, her mind had been so consumed by hatred for Charles Prescott that she forced herself to endure it, even when she was scared.

But now...

Because of what happened with Stella Shields, she’d grown resentful. She felt he was no different from Charles Prescott.

This resistance made her unwilling to be intimate with him anymore.

That was why she felt afraid—even disgusted—when he drew near.

Anne Sutton coughed twice, scrambled out of bed, and pushed Nathan Fawcett away. She rushed straight into the bathroom and started to vomit.

After a while, Nathan Fawcett came in and asked, ”What’s wrong?”

Anne Sutton heaved for a long time before rinsing her mouth. She looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”My appetite hasn’t been great these past two days. It must be morning sickness.”

She lied, refusing to admit his touch was the real reason.

Nathan Fawcett walked over to steady her, his cold fingers grasping her arm. Anne Sutton said quickly, ”Don’t touch me.”

Nathan Fawcett gazed at her.

In the bathroom light, she glanced at him. He stood off to the side, looking the same as when he’d left, just in a different set of clothes.

It was just...

...he also seemed different!

’He may be like this, but he’s a good person,’ she had thought before.

But now, she couldn’t stand the sight of him.

’From now on, I’ll never let this man touch me again!’

To avoid angering him, Anne Sutton explained, ”I’m fine now.”

She walked out, got into bed, and seeing Nathan Fawcett follow her, asked, ”Why are you back so suddenly?”

At the mention of this, Nathan Fawcett froze for a moment, then a fleeting look of confusion crossed his face.

Seeing Anne Sutton looking at him, he finally said, ”It’s nothing.”

”Did Ms. Shields not come back with you?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”She had her own things to attend to.”

Seeing him mention another woman so casually, Anne Sutton glanced at him and said, ”Well, I’m going to sleep then.”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I want to hold you while we sleep.”

He said this with exceptional sincerity.

Anne Sutton blinked, looking at him. ’Didn’t he used to despise me?’

Besides, ever since she got pregnant, Nathan Fawcett had been afraid of affecting the baby and hadn’t touched her at all!

’Now he goes on a trip, and the moment he’s back, he wants to hold me while we sleep? What kind of logic is that?’

Nathan Fawcett saw her staring at him, unsure of what she was thinking, and said, ”I won’t do anything else. I’m just... afraid you’ll get scared in the middle of the night.”

But only he knew that wasn’t the real reason.

He was in a terrible mood, and when he came back and saw her in bed, he just wanted to be close to her.

This woman was, to him, perhaps the only warmth in the entire world.

Anne Sutton said, ”I won’t be scared.”

Before she could say another word, Nathan Fawcett had already moved closer and wrapped his arms around her.

Anne Sutton’s body went rigid in his cold embrace.

’Damn it, how am I supposed to sleep like this?’

Especially now that she’d started to find him repulsive, everything about him felt unbearable.

’Why is he so cold?’

Anne Sutton took a deep breath, trying her best to act as she normally would so he wouldn’t notice anything.

But in her heart, she had already made up her mind: she would never again trust this two-faced man.

’Just as I thought. Men are the most unreliable creatures in the world.’

Held in Nathan Fawcett’s arms, Anne Sutton lay in bed, staring at the ceiling with a look of utter dejection. Nathan Fawcett’s apartment was lavishly decorated; all the furniture and decor had cost a fortune.

’Ugh, for the sake of the money, I’ll just put up with him for these next two months!’

The doctor had said he only had two months left, and that was a while ago. He looked even weaker now. ’He probably won’t even last these two months. Once he’s gone, I can take the baby and live however I want. I can’t afford to make an enemy of him now.’

Holding Anne Sutton, Nathan Fawcett felt the warmth in his arms and became much more comfortable.

He didn’t look at her. His mind was preoccupied with the events of the past two days...

Ethan Linden was dead!

His younger brother—the one his mother had taken when she and his father divorced—had slipped and fallen from a cliff while traveling...

That was what Stella Shields had come to tell him.

He had never dared to appear before his mother, because from the moment of the divorce, she had drawn a clear line between herself and the Fawcett family.

After he got sick, his father had taken him to see his mother, but they were thrown out.

For all these years, whenever he appeared before his mother, she met him only with cold remarks. She claimed to have only one son, Ethan Linden. As for him, he was nothing.

...

Nathan Fawcett closed his eyes, recalling his recent meeting with his mother. He had gone to see her because he was worried she would be overcome with grief from losing Ethan.

But when his mother saw him, all she had for him was utter disgust. ”My Ethan is dead, so how are you still alive? Why didn’t you die before he did?”

His mother wished he had been the one to die, not Ethan.

He, too, wished it had been him. After all, his life had long been worthless.

He just hadn’t expected Ethan to die at a time like this.

Lost in those cold memories, Nathan Fawcett didn’t even know how he had gotten through the past two days.

Anne Sutton stirred in his arms. He opened his eyes, looked at her, and said, ”What is it now?”

”I want to get a drink of water.”

He looked at her and said, ”Wait here.”

Then he stood up and went to get her a glass of water.

Anne Sutton: ”...”

’This man...’

’Is he crazy?’

’What is he doing?’

’Could it be because I’m pregnant now, so he, as the father, wants to do his part?’

He returned quickly with the water. Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and took the glass, somewhat overwhelmed by the gesture. ”Thank you, Mr. Fawcett.”

Nathan Fawcett sat down and watched her. Only after she had finished the water did he take the glass back.

Anne Sutton said, ”I could have gotten it myself, really.”

”You’re pregnant.”

Anne Sutton said, ”The baby in my belly isn’t even as big as a finger yet. It doesn’t affect my movement at all. I can’t even feel it.”

”Didn’t you just throw up?” Nathan Fawcett looked at her.

Anne Sutton: ”...”

’Ugh, what would he think if he knew I only threw up because I was purely disgusted by him?’

”Besides,” Nathan Fawcett said, ”the doctor told me I don’t have long. I’ll probably be gone by the time the baby is born. I should take care of him now while I still can. Otherwise, he’ll be born a child who never knew a father’s love.”

Anne Sutton hadn’t expected that someone as ill-tempered as Nathan Fawcett would suddenly say something so sentimental.

She looked at him and said, ”Don’t worry. Even if you’re gone one day, I’ll dote on him completely. I’ll make sure he has a better life than kids who do have fathers.”

Nathan Fawcett: ”...”

Although there was nothing wrong with Anne Sutton’s words on the surface, her tone was just... strange.

As if his existence was completely optional.
