Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Anne Sutton looked at him. ”I didn’t!”

”You didn’t?” Nathan Fawcett said. ”Of course you wouldn’t admit it. Are you telling me you didn’t get together with Charles Prescott after Nathan was gone? Ms. Sutton, you can’t hide the things you’ve done.”

Anne Sutton stared at the man before her. It was true—she had been with Charles Prescott, but only to protect the child she was carrying...

After what had happened to her child, she had never been with Charles Prescott again!

But for him to be the one to say it, it still made Anne Sutton feel awful.

’What right does he have to meddle in my life?’

”What kind of person I am has nothing to do with you! Do you think you’re Nathan Fawcett? You’re not! You’re just his brother, and yet, I haven’t seen you show much concern for him! Who I’m with is none of your business! Stop accusing me! You have no right!”

She didn’t expect him to understand her.

But his words were a major turn-off.

”Auntie, would you like some of this?” Ian came over, holding a scoop of ice cream.

Anne Sutton glanced at him. If it weren’t for the little one, she wouldn’t be having dinner with this man at all.

...

After that, Anne Sutton didn’t say another word to him.

After dinner, Nathan Fawcett had the driver take her back to her hotel first.

Anne Sutton was silent for the entire ride.

Ian sat beside her, leaning against her.

The car, with its distinctive L-shaped emblem, stopped at the hotel entrance.

Anne Sutton glanced at the sleeping Ian. She reached out, gently sat him up, and nudged him over toward Nathan Fawcett before getting out of the car.

Before closing the car door, she glanced at Nathan Fawcett. ”I’ve repaid my debt to Mr. Linden. The next time we see each other, I hope you’ll act like you’ve never met me.”

’Listening to him talk is enough to drive me insane.’

Nathan Fawcett watched her, just as she shut the door.

After Anne Sutton left, Ian woke up. He leaned against Nathan Fawcett’s leg and said, ”Daddy.”

Nathan Fawcett looked down at his son’s small head. ”What is it?”

Ian said, ”My birthday is in a couple of days. Can I invite Auntie Sutton to my party? I feel really happy when she’s around. Daddy, can I come see her again tomorrow?”

Nathan Fawcett recalled how angry Anne Sutton had been. ’She just told me to stay away from her!’

Now, faced with his son’s question, Nathan Fawcett didn’t know how to answer.

Seeing his father’s silence, Ian looked up, his dark eyes fixed on him, and pressed, ”Well? Can I?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”She’s just a stranger. Why do you care so much? A lot of people will be with you on your birthday. I’ll be there too.”

Ian looked at Nathan Fawcett and pursed his lips, clearly unhappy.

Nathan Fawcett had always believed he was the most important person in his son’s life.

That’s why, no matter how busy he was with work, he always made time to be with him.

The little one had already lost his mother.

So, as his father, he had always tried his hardest to give him twice the love...

But he never expected that the moment Anne Sutton appeared—good grief—he, the father, would suddenly become a piece of furniture!

’All that love, wasted!’

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Weren’t you sleepy? Go back to sleep. I’ll wake you when we get home.”

...

After getting out of Nathan Fawcett’s car and entering the hotel, Anne Sutton saw Charles Prescott sitting on a nearby sofa.

When he saw her walk in, he said, ”Good evening.”

Anne Sutton didn’t believe for a second that his being here was a coincidence.

”What are you doing here?” Anne Sutton asked.

’Did he deliberately track me down?’

Charles Prescott said, ”I’ve been waiting for a while. Did you have dinner with Ethan Linden tonight?”

He had recognized the Linden family’s car.

Hearing this, Anne Sutton retorted, ”I had dinner with my fiancé. Is there a problem with that?”

Ethan had made that claim in front of Charles earlier in the day. ’Even if he was just bluffing, it’s still pretty effective at pissing Charles off.’

Charles Prescott laughed when he heard her.

Charles Prescott said, ”What are you thinking? Do you actually believe a man of his stature would marry a widow like you? Anne Sutton, I’ll admit you’re attractive, but don’t you think you’re getting ahead of yourself?”

Anne Sutton retorted, ”Not everyone is like you.”

”That’s right!” Charles Prescott raised an eyebrow. ”Not everyone is like me, who actually gives a damn about you. After all these years, no matter how you’ve treated me, I’ve always had you in my heart. No one will ever treat you as well as I do.”

”You have me in your heart, yet you’re engaged to Mia Shaw?”

’What a joke!’

Charles Prescott looked at her. ”I didn’t come here today to listen to this. I just wanted to tell you a few things about Ethan Linden.”

”Why would I need you to tell me anything about my fiancé?”

Charles Prescott said, ”He has a child. You knew that, right?”

”...I know. He’s very cute, actually. He was with us at dinner tonight.”

Charles Prescott hadn’t expected that. ’Ethan Linden even brought the child to dinner with her? That’s certainly unexpected!’

Charles Prescott continued, ”You also know the child’s mother. It’s Stella Shields! He’s just messing with you, and you actually fell for it!”

Anne Sutton froze when she heard the name Stella Shields.

’I had always thought Stella Shields was involved with Nathan Fawcett...’

’How could she now be the mother of Ethan Linden’s child?’

’Could I have been wrong about something back then?’

Charles Prescott looked at Anne Sutton. ”So you didn’t know! And here I thought he’d told you everything.”

”Who said I didn’t know?” Anne Sutton snapped. ”Do I need you to come and tell me this?”

’Even if Stella Shields is the child’s mother, it has nothing to do with me.’

’I’m not actually going to be with Ethan Linden!’

’Charles Prescott’s words can’t get to me!’

Charles Prescott said, ”You know all this, and you’re still getting involved with Ethan Linden?”

”Why not?” Anne Sutton said. ”What if he agrees to help me take back everything that belongs to the Fawcett family? As long as I get my revenge, what does it matter if he’s an old man or has a whole brood of children? Charles Prescott, do you know what’s coming up in two days? It’s the anniversary of my baby’s death. The Fawcetts treated you so well, and I hate you for betraying them and for everything you’ve done!”

As she spoke, her expression was filled with venom.

Charles Prescott stared at her, surprised that even after three years, her hatred for him hadn’t diminished in the slightest.

Charles Prescott said, ”I thought that after three years, you would have come to your senses. But you’re still stuck in the past. Nathan Fawcett has been dead for ages. Your child should never have been brought into this world.”

”You said that,” Anne Sutton said, looking at Charles Prescott. ”Don’t you dare regret it later.”

Ignoring him, she turned and went straight upstairs.

...

The next morning, Anne Sutton woke up very early.

Charles Prescott and Miles Prescott had bought a house in Veridia, which was where Leo and Mrs. Prescott were now staying.

Charles Prescott hadn’t finished his business, so he hadn’t sent them away yet.

At the moment, both Charles Prescott and Miles Prescott were out.

Leo was crying. ”Where’s my mommy? I want to see my mommy!”
