Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

But he never imagined that Nathan Fawcett, that damn fool, was actually alive!

And showing up now, of all times...

Sean Sutton’s eyes darted around. He glanced at Anne Sutton on the hospital bed. ’If Nathan Fawcett finds out what I did, he’ll definitely never let me get away with it.’

Sean Sutton forced himself to remain calm and said, ”It... It was Anne’s idea! She’s with Charles Prescott now, so for the sake of their future, she wanted to get rid of the baby. It really has nothing to do with me.”

Hearing Sean Sutton’s words, Nathan Fawcett looked toward Anne Sutton. He’d known for a while that she was with Charles Prescott. She had been with him constantly for the past few months, in fact.

’I’m supposed to be dead. Mother won’t let me return to the Fawcett Family, and I’ve been recovering this whole time. If she wants to be with Charles Prescott, that’s her choice.’

But he never thought...

’But now, he can’t even tolerate her child?’

’Then again...’

’As far as she’s concerned, I’m already dead!’

...

When Anne Sutton woke up, Sean Sutton was in the hospital room. The very first thing she did was touch her stomach. The baby was gone.

She opened her eyes and looked at Sean Sutton. He said in a fawning tone, ”Anne, you’re awake?”

”Where’s my baby?” Anne Sutton asked.

Hearing her question, Sean Sutton said, ”The baby is gone. Try not to dwell on it.”

As he spoke, there was a guilty edge to his voice.

But he remembered what Nathan Fawcett had said. ”If anyone finds out I was here, you’ll face the consequences!”

He had always been terrified of Nathan Fawcett, so naturally, he wouldn’t dare let anyone find out.

Besides, he had lied to Nathan Fawcett’s face, claiming Anne wanted to get rid of the baby. ’If those two meet, then... wouldn’t my lie be exposed?’

’Knowing that bastard Nathan Fawcett’s personality, he’d probably chop me up and feed me to the dogs!’

Anne Sutton looked at her father, and it was a long moment before she could accept the truth of his words.

Anne Sutton said, ”Get out. I never want to see you again.”

’As far as I’m concerned, I no longer have a father!’

Sean Sutton said, ”Anne, I was only doing it for your own good... Charles Prescott said that once you’ve recovered, he’ll come to the hospital to get you.”

”I told you to get out!”

Furious, Anne Sutton threw a pillow at him.

Tears streamed down her face as she thought of the child she had lost.

For the next few days, she remained in the hospital. Her mother came to see her. ”Anne, please eat something.”

Lying in her hospital bed, Anne Sutton looked at her mother and said, ”Why didn’t you stop him?”

Mrs. Sutton said, ”I didn’t know your father would do something like that! I’m sorry, it’s all my fault! It’s all my fault.”

Anne Sutton looked at her mother, hating her mother’s weakness for the first time.

She said, ”Just go home. I’ll be fine here by myself.”

Mrs. Sutton said, ”Anne, I’m so sorry. But now that the baby’s gone, try not to dwell on it. Actually, being with Charles Prescott is a good thing. Without the baby, there won’t be that wedge between you when you two get married.”

Anne Sutton didn’t know what else her mother said after that. In any case, she wasn’t listening.

She spent several more days recovering in the hospital before Charles Prescott finally came to see her.

He brought some food with him. Sitting on the edge of her bed, he looked at her. ”Anne, the nurse said you haven’t eaten in days. You’ve been running a fever. Eat something.”

Anne Sutton stared at the man before her. ”Charles Prescott, you’ll get what you deserve.”

Charles Prescott didn’t seem angered by her words. He brought over a bowl of porridge. ”Here, have some porridge.”

Anne Sutton raised her hand and smacked the bowl, spilling the porridge all over him. Charles Prescott glanced down, still not angry, and simply picked up a tissue to wipe it off.

He looked at her and said, ”I know you’re not in a good mood. I’ll come see you again in a few days. But... I told you I was going to marry you, and the position of Mrs. Prescott will be yours and yours alone. You know I love you very much. Everything I do is for you, out of love.”

He didn’t even blink when he spouted such nonsense.

Anne Sutton looked at this utterly conscienceless man. ”Congratulations. You finally got the position of the Fawcett heir.”

With the child in her womb gone, he was now the heir in every sense of the word.

A few days ago, while drifting in and out of sleep, she had overheard hospital staff talking about it.

The Prescott father and son had already publicly announced that the baby was lost in an accidental miscarriage.

Miles Prescott had always maintained an excellent public image, so everyone believed his words without question.

Charles Prescott looked at her, said nothing, then stood up and walked out. On his way out, he instructed the caregiver at the door, ”Take good care of her.”

...

Anne Sutton spent several more days recovering. She couldn’t stand lying in bed any longer, so she left her room and walked outside. Standing by the side of the road, she watched the endless stream of traffic, feeling the urge to end it all.

But then she thought of Charles Prescott. ’If I die, no one will ever know that they killed my child!’

A car stopped at the intersection. Nathan Fawcett was sitting inside. Because the baby had been born premature, it had spent the last several days in a hospital incubator.

He was here today to pick up the baby.

Seeing Anne Sutton standing at the intersection, the butler looked at Nathan Fawcett and asked, ”Sir, should we say hello?”

Nathan Fawcett said in a low voice, ”Drive.”

He averted his gaze, refusing to look at her again.

The driver heard him and nodded. ”Yes, sir.”

’Mother has already forbidden me from having any contact with the Fawcett Family. The only ones I still care about are the child and Anne Sutton.’

’But Anne has been with Charles Prescott for a long time now. She has nothing to do with me anymore.’

’I can’t possibly go soft on this faithless woman!’

...

「Three years later. Veridia.」

Anne Sutton sat in a car, looking at the news on her phone. The top story of the day was the upcoming engagement of Charles Prescott and Mia Shaw.

That’s right, Charles Prescott was getting engaged to Mia Shaw. Their two companies had collaborated for the past few years, and they frequently attended events together. In the public eye, they were a match made in heaven.

Mia Shaw was a Veridia native, and her parents lived there, so the engagement ceremony was being held in Veridia.

Anne Sutton happened to have some annual leave she hadn’t used, so she had come over for a couple of days.

She had just gotten off the plane and was now having the driver take her directly to the hotel where the engagement party was being held.

The engagement ceremony was a lively affair. Both of them were influential people, so there were even media reporters at the scene.

Charles Prescott was now the heir to the Fawcett Group. With no one above him but his father, countless people were eager to curry favor with him.

Anne Sutton walked in and saw Charles Prescott. He looked quite handsome today, chatting with someone. It was just like years ago, at their own engagement. Only back then, he was still just a young man. Now...

Charles Prescott was in the middle of a conversation when Henry Underwood, who was standing beside him, quietly murmured, ”Ms. Sutton has arrived.”

Charles Prescott finally looked up toward Anne Sutton. He was stunned for a moment to see her standing at the entrance. ’She usually avoids me at all costs. Why is she here today?’

’And she came all the way from Westhaven!’
