Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Anne Sutton said, ”What business is it of yours?”

”Anne Sutton, we can talk about this calmly. Don’t take it out on Leo, he’s innocent.”

Hearing this, Anne Sutton glanced at Leo. He was sitting on a kiddy ride, playing happily.

Anne Sutton said, ”He’s fine!”

”You went all the way to my house, lied to my grandmother, and took Leo. Wasn’t it just to harm him?”

Yesterday, when she’d said it, he hadn’t taken her seriously.

It was only now that Charles Prescott reacted.

’No wonder she said she’d make him regret it...’

’She’d already made up her mind back then yesterday!’

Anne Sutton said, ”So, there are things you’re afraid of after all, huh?”

”Anne Sutton!” Charles Prescott said. ”Calm down.”

Listening to the panic in Charles Prescott’s voice, Anne Sutton found it laughable. ”So now you’re worried? Charles Prescott, three years ago, I begged you just like this. What did you say to me then? Hmm? You have things you’re afraid of too?”

Charles Prescott said, ”Where are you? I’ll come over now. Let’s talk face-to-face. Anne, don’t be like this... We’ve known each other for so many years. Everything I did was for you, don’t you understand? I’m sorry, it was all my fault!”

Anne Sutton listened to him beg for mercy. ’I never thought he could get this frantic over his own child.’

She glanced at Leo and told him her address. ”Get your ass over here.”

Then, she hung up.

...

By the time Anne Sutton finished buying a gift for Ian, Charles Prescott had arrived.

When he came, Mia Shaw was by his side.

Seeing Leo sitting on the sofa with a toy car in his hands, Charles Prescott breathed a sigh of relief.

He walked over, hugged his son, and looked at Anne Sutton.

Anne Sutton didn’t even raise her eyes when she saw him.

Charles Prescott handed the child to Mia Shaw, who held him and stepped aside.

Charles Prescott looked at Anne Sutton, his face filled with rage. Now that he had confirmed his son was safe, he was no longer begging her as he had on the phone.

Charles Prescott said, ”What the hell is wrong with you? Anne Sutton, I’m warning you, if anything happens to Leo, I won’t let you off the hook!”

Anne Sutton looked at the furious man before her. ”So, Mr. Prescott does get nervous after all! Have you forgotten what you did three years ago?”

Charles Prescott’s eyes darkened as he looked at her and said, ”Leo is already three years old. That child back then was never even born. How can you compare them? If you dare to do anything to Leo, the entire Sutton Family will pay the price for your foolishness! Don’t act like this just because I pamper you!”

Mia Shaw stood to the side, watching Anne Sutton. ’I can’t believe Anne Sutton has become this crazy.’

’She actually...’

’Tried to harm Charles Prescott’s child?’

Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott. ”Then I really must thank you for ’pampering’ me!”

Charles Prescott shot her a look, then turned and left with Mia Shaw.

...

That night, Anne Sutton lay alone on her hotel bed, a sharp pain gripping her stomach.

Thinking about what happened three years ago, she felt tears welling up uncontrollably.

’She really hated it...’

’Hated her own cowardice, hated that she had the chance but couldn’t bring herself to act, choosing instead to watch Charles Prescott act so arrogantly.’

Just as the pain became intense, her phone rang.

The noise made her head throb. She pressed the answer key.

The person on the other end didn’t speak right away.

Anne Sutton gasped in pain...

Hearing the sounds on the other end of the line, Nathan Fawcett asked, ”What’s wrong?”

Anne Sutton didn’t answer. Seeing it was Ethan Linden, she felt she had nothing to say.

She hung up on him.

Nathan Fawcett was sitting in his chair. He had only called to talk about her coming over for Ian’s birthday tomorrow.

’But he never expected...’

He didn’t think twice. He stood up and drove out immediately.

Anne Sutton lay on the bed, clutching her stomach. It was a chronic problem left over from her miscarriage years ago. She had been to the hospital for it, and the doctor had said it was nothing serious.

But the incident back then had left a deep psychological scar, so she often suffered from cramps and pain...

’Maybe this is my retribution for not being able to save my child!’

She thought this every time.

After an unknown amount of time, the door to her hotel room was opened.

A member of the housekeeping staff had opened the door for Nathan Fawcett. She stood at the entrance as she watched him walk in.

Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton on the bed. She was covered in a cold sweat from the pain, her hair damp.

He sat down and asked, ”What’s wrong with you?”

Anne Sutton opened her eyes and looked at the man. ”What are you doing here?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Are you an idiot? Don’t you know to go to the hospital when you’re sick?”

Without a second thought, he picked her up and carried her out of the hotel.

In the hospital, Anne Sutton was lying on a bed. The doctor had already examined her and put her on an IV with some painkillers. Nathan Fawcett stood by her side, staring at her.

Vera Wells walked in from outside, saw Nathan Fawcett, and said, ”Mr. Linden.”

She glanced at Anne Sutton lying in the hospital bed and said to Nathan Fawcett, ”Thank you for bringing Anne here. Sorry to trouble you again.”

Nathan Fawcett said nothing.

Vera Wells said, ”If you’re busy, you can go get some rest. I can take care of her from here.”

’After all, it’s not like Anne Sutton has any real relationship with him.’

’And besides...’

’Ethan Linden has a wife. I’m not comfortable letting Anne get too close to him.’

Nathan Fawcett, standing to the side, said, ”No need.”

Vera Wells: ”...”

...

Anne Sutton slept for a while and woke up in the middle of the night.

”Anne, you’re awake?” It was Vera Wells’s voice.

Anne Sutton opened her eyes and realized she was in the hospital.

Vera Wells said, ”Mr. Linden has been here with you for a long time. He’s the one who brought you to the hospital.”

Anne Sutton looked up and saw Nathan Fawcett standing there, his hands behind his back, staring at her coldly.

’Anne Sutton had no idea how things had ended up like this!’

She said, ”Thank you, Mr. Linden.”

Seeing that she was awake, Nathan Fawcett’s stern expression finally softened a little.

He spoke up, ”Is there something wrong with your brain, Ms. Sutton? Don’t you know to come to the hospital when you’re sick?”

”I’m fine,” Anne Sutton said. ”The pain usually goes away after a night!”

”...” He looked at her, unable to believe that in the years since she had left him, she had let herself get into this state while with Charles Prescott.

’How utterly ridiculous!’

Nathan Fawcett didn’t say anything else and walked right out.

Seeing him leave, Vera Wells finally breathed a sigh of relief. She turned to Anne Sutton and said, ”How did you two end up together? Didn’t you say he has a wife? He was just standing there a moment ago, not saying a word. He scared me to death!”

Anne Sutton said, ”I was sleeping in my hotel room. I don’t know how I got here either!”

Vera Wells said, ”He seems quite concerned about you.”

”...” Anne Sutton said, ”It’s probably because of Nathan Fawcett! He’s Nathan Fawcett’s younger brother.”

Vera Wells looked at Anne Sutton in disbelief. ”So, you’re saying Nathan Fawcett is Dr. Linden’s son?”

Anne Sutton nodded.
