Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Anna Linden was her idol. She was thrilled to see her idol in person.

Anna Linden glanced at the two of them but ignored them, following the hospital director.

Vera Wells, who had always been on good terms with Anne Sutton at the hospital, walked over and said, ”Dr. Sutton.”

Anne Sutton glanced at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”This is my friend. I’m just going to have a quick word with her.”

Nathan Fawcett didn’t say a word. It was unclear what he was thinking as he walked ahead, and the butler followed him.

Anne Sutton turned to Vera Wells and asked, ”Why is Dr. Linden at our hospital?”

Vera Wells said, ”They say she’s here for an exchange at our hospital for a while. I can’t believe it either. Someone of her caliber, coming to our hospital! I just found out myself.”

Anne Sutton said, ”For an exchange?”

Vera Wells nodded. Seeing the look of regret on Anne Sutton’s face, she asked, ”What’s wrong?”

”I could just die from frustration.” ’How could I miss such a great opportunity just because I’m on leave?’

’Even if I can’t work with Dr. Linden, just being able to watch her up close would have been amazing.’

Wendy Chambers walked over. Seeing Anne Sutton, she gloated, ”Tsk tsk, Dr. Sutton sure has some luck! Missing out on such a golden opportunity just like that.”

Seeing this woman take every opportunity to mock her, Anne Sutton seethed with frustration.

Wendy Chambers said smugly, ”I bet you didn’t know! I’ll be shadowing Dr. Linden while she’s here for the exchange. As for you, just enjoy your little vacation at home!”

Anne Sutton was about to die of anger, but she couldn’t show it too obviously in front of someone she despised.

Wendy Chambers looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”But... I heard you’re on maternity leave? People are saying you’re pregnant with that Mr. Fawcett’s child?”

Her eyes were filled with suspicion as she looked at Anne Sutton.

Before, everyone thought it was just a rumor. But now, seeing that Anne Sutton had even taken leave, she couldn’t help but think it was true.

Anne Sutton said, ”What’s that got to do with you?”

”Who doesn’t know that Mr. Fawcett has a terrible temper and won’t live much longer? Tsk tsk, Anne Sutton, has your Sutton Family really fallen so far that they’d make the once so proud Ms. Sutton debase herself for a man like that? How pathetic!”

”Have you said enough?” Anne Sutton retorted. ”Since you know I’m with Mr. Fawcett, you should also know that besides his poor health, he has a bad temper too.”

At this, Wendy Chambers finally shut her mouth, turned, and stomped away in a huff.

Vera Wells watched her leave and said, ”You two still don’t get along, huh.”

”You saw it yourself. She’s the one who started it. She just can’t stand me.”

After saying goodbye to Vera Wells, Anne Sutton returned to the car. Nathan Fawcett hadn’t left; he was waiting for her.

She was in a bad mood.

’To think I’d miss such a great opportunity just because I’m pregnant.’

She said to Nathan Fawcett, ”Mr. Fawcett.”

Nathan Fawcett was sitting to the side with a blanket over his legs. His face was cold, his long, pale fingers resting on the blanket. Hearing her call his name, he glanced at her.

Anne Sutton said, ”Can I go back to work for a while before I take my leave?”

No one takes maternity leave the moment they get pregnant.

Nathan Fawcett had ordered it before, so she’d had no choice.

But now, seeing Anna Linden, Anne Sutton desperately wanted to seize this opportunity.

After all, an opportunity like Anna Linden coming to their hospital for an exchange might never happen again in her lifetime.

Nathan Fawcett heard her but didn’t respond.

Anne Sutton looked at him. ”Can I or not?”

A sudden, inexplicable anger flared up in Nathan Fawcett. He said furiously, ”If you don’t want this child, then just get rid of it.”

Anne Sutton was speechless.

At the hospital, his attitude had been so gentle. Ever since she got pregnant, Nathan Fawcett hadn’t been harsh with her once.

His sudden outburst of temper startled her.

The butler, sitting in the front, was also shocked by Nathan Fawcett’s words. He wanted to say something but froze, not daring to speak.

Anne Sutton stared at Nathan Fawcett. It took her a moment to process what he’d said. ”I was just... I was just trying to discuss it with you. I didn’t say I had to go. If you’re not happy about it, then forget it.”

She had never expected him to suddenly bring up aborting the child.

Nathan Fawcett sat beside her, closed his eyes, and said nothing more.

The driver started the car. Anne Sutton sat next to Nathan Fawcett, not daring to speak again.

She didn’t know what she had done wrong.

’Maybe I shouldn’t have brought it up just now?’

When they arrived home, the driver stopped the car. Nathan Fawcett walked ahead, ignoring Anne Sutton completely as he went straight inside. The butler saw this and followed him.

Leaving Anne Sutton alone behind him.

She watched the man’s cold figure.

Every time he was good to her, she would naively think that she was special to him.

After all, they had been living together as husband and wife for so long now.

But... whenever that thought popped into her head, Nathan Fawcett would, through his actions, give her a rude awakening. He would make her realize that in his world, she was nothing.

After returning, Nathan Fawcett went to his room and didn’t come back down.

At lunchtime, a servant came to call Anne Sutton for her meal.

Anne Sutton said, ”It’s fine. I’m not hungry.”

Chairman Fawcett walked in. ”Who’s made our Anne angry?”

Ever since Anne Sutton got pregnant, Chairman Fawcett had been treating her as affectionately as if he were her own father, which Anne Sutton was still not quite used to.

”Chairman.”

Chairman Fawcett sat down and said, ”I heard your family was in a car accident. Are you worried about that?”

Anne Sutton nodded. ”Yes.”

Although she was upset because of Nathan Fawcett, she didn’t want to bother explaining since Chairman Fawcett had already asked.

’What’s the point of arguing with a dying man?’

Chairman Fawcett said, ”Don’t worry too much. The important thing is that they’re okay! To survive a great disaster means good fortune will follow. Sigh, I don’t know what’s been going on lately. Your family had an accident, and that boy Charles had one too. It’s just one misfortune after another. Thankfully... Nathan has a child now! There’s hope for the Fawcett Family’s future.”

Anne Sutton looked at Chairman Fawcett, and a thought stirred in her heart. She asked, ”Chairman, when Nathan Fawcett is gone, will you still love this child?”

In truth, Anne Sutton was also very scared.

Although Charles Prescott’s car accident meant Miles Prescott was also suffering—and seeing him angry was deeply satisfying—the baby in her belly was still a thorn in the side of the Prescott father and son.

She didn’t know what dangers awaited her in the future.

Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, the Chairman glanced at her. ”Anne, what are you saying? This child is a child of our Fawcett Family! Even if Nathan is gone, I will still dote on them. How could you ask such a foolish question? This is the Fawcett Family’s only bloodline, and will be our family’s sole heir!”

Anne Sutton said, ”Hearing you say that puts my mind at ease.”

”What is it?” Seeing Anne Sutton’s solemn expression, the Chairman asked, ”Did someone bully you?”

Anne Sutton shook her head. ”No.”

Chairman Fawcett offered his support, ”Don’t you worry. Just focus on having this baby safely. I’d like to see who dares to bully you! A child of my Fawcett Family will naturally be cherished by everyone from the moment they’re born. I’ll take good care of your parents’ side of things as well. From now on, if you need anything, just come directly to me.”
