Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

’To think there was someone in this world that Nathan Fawcett actually cared about.’

Nathan Fawcett said, ”You’ll see when we get there!”

He didn’t want to tell her beforehand, afraid it would ruin the surprise.

When they arrived, Nathan Fawcett had Anne Sutton wait with him by the door for a moment before they saw Stella Shields running over.

Anne Sutton, standing beside Nathan Fawcett, had assumed he was here to meet some distinguished guest. When she realized it was Stella Shields, her heart sank.

’Tsk, so he spent all that time getting ready just to meet his old flame, huh?’

’But why did he bring me along?’

Anne Sutton shot the man beside her a look filled with contempt.

Stella Shields said, ”Auntie said she’ll be here in a bit. Let’s go up first!”

Nathan Fawcett nodded. ”Okay.”

He even seemed a little reserved.

Following beside him, Anne Sutton studied Stella Shields, who was leading the way. Stella had also dressed up for the occasion, wearing a white dress and meticulously applied makeup.

’Compared to Stella, my outfit seems a bit too casual!’

’But their date has nothing to do with me.’

So she couldn’t be bothered to say anything.

’If Stella Shields doesn’t mind, why should I, the tool, care?’

Once they reached the private room, they sat down.

Stella Shields sat to one side, looked at Anne Sutton, and said, ”Ms. Sutton, I heard you’re carrying Nathan’s child. Congratulations. Nathan’s health isn’t good, so it’s wonderful that he can have a child.”

For a moment, Anne Sutton couldn’t tell if she was being sincere or just putting on an act.

”Thank you for your well wishes, Ms. Shields.”

Nathan Fawcett sat beside them. The usually arrogant man was now silent, looking a little nervous.

Before long, the door to the private room was pushed open, and someone walked in.

Anne Sutton looked toward the door and saw Anna Linden standing right behind the waiter.

After the waiter opened the door, she entered. Seeing her, Stella Shields greeted her with great familiarity, ”Auntie.”

Nathan Fawcett also looked at Anna Linden and stood up.

Startled, Anne Sutton shot up from her seat as well.

’Damn it, she suddenly regretted everything. No wonder Nathan Fawcett dressed up so much. Now she was regretting not even changing her clothes.’

’She hadn’t even put on any makeup before leaving the house.’

’Who would have thought? It turns out I was the clown all along.’

Anna Linden had already entered and sat down in an empty seat. ”Sit. Have you ordered yet?”

She directed the question at Stella Shields.

Stella Shields replied, ”Not yet. We were waiting for you to order.”

Anna Linden said to the waiter, ”Give me the menu!”

She spoke in a completely commanding tone.

It was aloof and forceful.

But it wasn’t off-putting.

Anne Sutton was just surprised that Stella Shields had such a good relationship with Dr. Linden.

Anna Linden looked at Anne Sutton and asked Nathan Fawcett, ”And she is...?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Her name is Anne Sutton. She’s my wife.”

Nathan Fawcett was a little nervous introducing Anne Sutton to his mother.

For so many years, he’d never had a woman by his side.

Anne Sutton was the first woman he’d ever been close to, and she was his wife.

Today could be considered him bringing her to meet his parent.

Anne Sutton took the initiative to speak. ”Hello, Dr. Linden. I’m an OB/GYN at Westhaven First Hospital. I’ve admired you for a long time.”

Suddenly meeting her idol, Anne Sutton was very nervous, her voice even trembling slightly as she spoke.

Anna Linden said, ”We’ve met before. Outside your hospital.”

Anne Sutton was surprised she actually remembered her. ”Yes! I never expected to see you here today.”

’Nathan Fawcett actually brought her to meet her idol. This one act managed to redeem the bad impression he had left on her, just a tiny bit.’

The waiter handed over the menu. Anna Linden glanced at it, ordered a few dishes, and then asked Anne Sutton, ”You don’t have any dietary restrictions, do you?”

”No.”

After ordering, Anna Linden set the menu down.

It wasn’t long before the dishes arrived.

The dishes that were served were all rather spicy.

Anna Linden had lived in Veridia for years, so her palate leaned toward stronger flavors.

Anne Sutton sat to the side. She didn’t have any restrictions, so she could eat everything.

But...

She glanced at Nathan Fawcett beside her. He couldn’t eat this kind of food now.

He was a patient, after all.

Anne Sutton said, ”Nathan can’t eat spicy food.”

Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Anna Linden looked at Nathan Fawcett and asked, ”You can’t eat spicy food?”

After she spoke, she picked up a piece of food with her chopsticks and placed it on his plate.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I can.”

Anne Sutton: ”...”

She watched in disbelief as Nathan Fawcett ate that very spicy piece of food.

After eating it, his complexion paled, but he desperately tried to endure it.

Anne Sutton quickly poured him a glass of water.

Anna Linden, however, seemed to not notice at all. She looked at Anne Sutton and asked, ”How did you and Nathan Fawcett meet?”

Anne Sutton glanced at him, unsure how to describe their relationship. ”We were introduced through our families.”

’She wanted to save some face in front of her idol.’

’She didn’t want anyone to know she was only with Nathan Fawcett because of her family, so she kept her answer vague.’

Anna Linden raised an eyebrow. ”Is that so?”

Stella Shields, being quite familiar with Anna Linden, said bluntly, ”Auntie, Ms. Sutton is pregnant with Nathan’s child now. Since Nathan’s health is poor, Chairman Fawcett wanted to find someone to bear a child for him, so he chose Anne Sutton.”

”...” Hearing this, Anna Linden’s expression grew complicated. She looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”So, your father likes her a lot?”

Nathan Fawcett froze for a moment at his mother’s words.

Seeing he didn’t respond, Anna Linden knew he was tacitly agreeing. Her gaze fell upon Anne Sutton, and her expression grew even more complex.

Anything that Chairman Fawcett liked, she could never bring herself to like.

Just as Chairman Fawcett doted on Nathan Fawcett, she couldn’t stand the sight of him.

However, she didn’t show any of this in front of Anne Sutton. She simply picked up her chopsticks and ate some of the food.

The dishes were very spicy, yet she seemed to be enjoying them immensely.

Anna Linden didn’t forget to serve Nathan Fawcett more food. ”My son loves to eat these things. You should like them too, right?”

Before coming, Nathan Fawcett had been filled with high expectations.

’After all, he was finally getting to have a meal with his mother.’

But the result...

’He never imagined she had only called him here to be a substitute for Ethan.’

’She probably just missed her son, so she wanted to see his face, which resembled her other son’s so much!’

’She didn’t really want to see *him*.’

’But it seemed she had forgotten... he was her son, too!’

As Nathan Fawcett sat there, forcing himself to eat, Anne Sutton looked at him and said, ”Nathan Fawcett, these dishes are too spicy. You should eat less.”

’He couldn’t even taste anything anyway. Wouldn’t eating this just make him feel sick?’

Besides, his body couldn’t handle it.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I’m fine.”

After saying that, he took another two bites.

Seeing how much he was suffering while still desperately forcing food into his mouth as if he’d gone mad, Anne Sutton reached out and stopped his hand as he was about to get more.

Even though they were in front of Dr. Linden, Anne Sutton couldn’t hold back any longer. She turned to Anna Linden and said, ”Dr. Linden, Nathan Fawcett’s health is poor. He’s hanging on by a thread with medication every day. Eating food this spicy will make him sick. Could we possibly get him some milder dishes?”
