Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

When Anne Sutton saw him with Stella Shields, she could tell he was much gentler, completely unlike how he was with her.

She had only said one thing to him, and he’d told her to get an abortion.

She didn’t say anything to them and headed straight upstairs.

Nathan Fawcett looked at her and asked, ”Where did you go?”

Anne Sutton said, ”Just out for a walk.”

With that, Anne Sutton went straight upstairs.

Nathan Fawcett watched her go, recalling his outburst. He knew it was his fault.

Stella Shields looked at Nathan Fawcett. ”I get the feeling Ms. Sutton is angry with me. She hasn’t misunderstood our relationship, has she?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”It has nothing to do with you.”

”Auntie said she’s free tomorrow evening. She wants you to come over for dinner.”

”...” Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett thought of his mother at the hospital earlier that day, treating him like a complete stranger. In her eyes, he had always been like an enemy. ’And now she was inviting him to dinner?’

But against his better judgment, Nathan Fawcett weakly agreed, ”I know.”

Perhaps the most unconditional thing in the world is a child’s love for their parents. No matter how bad the parents are, the child will always love them, always give them another chance.

If she showed him even the slightest bit of kindness, he would forget all the past unpleasantness.

Stella Shields stood up. ”I’ll be heading back now.”

Nathan Fawcett said to the butler, ”See Ms. Shields home.”

The butler nodded. ”Yes, sir.”

Upstairs, Anne Sutton stood before the bathroom mirror and splashed water on her face. Nathan Fawcett walked in and looked at her. He wanted to apologize, but he was too used to being proud. After mulling it over for a long time, he still couldn’t figure out how to start.

The words that finally came out were, ”Have you eaten?”

Anne Sutton glanced at him in the mirror and noticed he no longer seemed as angry as he had been at noon.

She said, ”I’m not hungry. I’m not eating.”

”Let’s eat together,” Nathan Fawcett said. ”I haven’t eaten either.”

He could clearly feel the coldness in Anne Sutton’s attitude toward him.

He had shut himself away all afternoon. On reflection, he realized it was unfair to take out his frustrations about his mother on her.

Especially since she was pregnant.

Anne Sutton said, ”I don’t want to eat.”

Seeing him staring at her, she worried he would get angry again. After a moment’s thought, Anne Sutton went downstairs with him anyway.

Not seeing Stella Shields, Anne Sutton said, ”Oh, Ms. Shields left? I was just thinking I’d sleep in the guest room tonight and leave the bedroom for you two.”

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett said, ”What happened earlier today was my fault. Don’t be angry. Didn’t you want to go back to the hospital? What did you want to do there?”

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett. When she had mentioned it to him earlier, he had flatly refused.

Now, he was so patient he seemed like a different person.

Anne Sutton found it a little unsettling.

”Ms. Shields must really have a way with you, cheering you up so quickly.”

”I told you, our relationship isn’t what you think. I just...”

She was Ethan’s first love. Now that Ethan was gone, his mother kept her close.

Nathan Fawcett thought of her as a sister!

Nathan Fawcett couldn’t bring himself to say the rest.

He hadn’t mentioned a thing about his mother to his father in all these years.

Not even the Prescott father and son knew his mother was still alive. Everyone else just assumed she had passed away.

He didn’t know how to explain this matter to Anne Sutton either.

...

Anne Sutton stared at him. ”Actually, Mr. Fawcett, you don’t have to explain. I know you two are childhood sweethearts. To you, I’m just the mother of your child, nothing more. I know my place. It was only natural for you to get angry at me earlier. When patients at the hospital get angry with me, I can’t take it personally either.”

After all, the Fawcett Family hadn’t treated her poorly.

Especially after she became pregnant. Chairman Fawcett had been magnanimous, taking good care of the Sutton Family and even introducing a major client to her father. When she visited the hospital, her father was always eager to be discharged, afraid he would miss an opportunity to make money.

Nathan Fawcett looked at her, so calm and rational, and the words he’d wanted to say caught in his throat.

’Right,’ he thought. ’That’s what she thinks of me.’

’So what’s the point of trying to placate her?’

He picked up his glass, started drinking his water, and stopped trying to appease her.

...

That night, Anne Sutton was curled up in bed. Anna Linden had held a conference at the hospital that day and given a lecture.

Vera Wells had recorded a video and sent it to her.

Unable to sleep, Anne Sutton watched it on her phone for a while.

Nathan Fawcett sat beside her. Hearing his mother’s voice coming from the phone, he leaned closer to her and started watching as well.

’How ironic!’

’As her son, the only way he could see his mother most of the time was just like everyone else—through her interviews, through videos.’

Anne Sutton watched for a bit, then realized Nathan Fawcett had, at some point, moved closer to her. He was so near that she could feel his breath on the top of her head.

She looked up at him and saw that Nathan Fawcett was just staring intently at the screen.

She had no idea what he was up to.

Anne Sutton could only turn her attention back to the video.

They finished watching the video together.

Dr. Linden’s speech was about forty minutes long.

It was so well-delivered that the time seemed to fly by.

Nathan Fawcett asked, ”Why are you watching this?”

Anne Sutton said, ”That’s Dr. Linden. She’s at our hospital for an exchange program. This is the lecture she gave today; my colleague sent it to me. A lot of the doctors went, but I’m on leave, so I couldn’t go.”

At this, Anne Sutton sighed.

’How could Nathan Fawcett possibly understand what a rare opportunity this was for her?’

But after his outburst earlier, she didn’t dare bring it up with him again.

Anne Sutton said, ”By the time I go back to the hospital, she’ll be long gone. I’ll never get a chance like this again!”

With that, she put her phone down, looking dejected.

Nathan Fawcett looked at her. When she had mentioned Dr. Linden before, he had been lost in his own world and hadn’t noticed the significance.

Only now did he realize. ”You admire her a lot?”

Anne Sutton said, ”She’s always been my idol. She’s an outstanding doctor, incredibly skilled.”

Nathan Fawcett stared at Anne Sutton as she spoke about Dr. Linden.

After she finished, he agreed, ”I think so, too.”

’In his heart, wasn’t his mother the most perfect woman in the world?’

Nathan Fawcett often wondered why, even though he and Ethan were twins, it was Ethan who ended up with their mother.

While he was left behind in the Fawcett Family, with Scum Fawcett.

Ethan got to have all of their mother’s love, while he, stuck with their father, became someone who was completely estranged from her.

Anne Sutton had still been angry about what happened earlier, but now, hearing Nathan Fawcett agree with her assessment of Dr. Linden, she got excited and grabbed his sleeve. ”Right? Right?! She’s truly exceptional!”

”...” Nathan Fawcett watched her, so excited she seemed like a different person as she clutched his sleeve. He felt as if a small part of his heart had been pried open. He nodded. ”Yeah.”
