Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

She absolutely cannot be allowed to have that baby!

Charles Prescott looked at his father. He knew his father had always been a decisive man.

If...

If this matter with Anne Sutton was really left to him, her life might not be safe.

Charles Prescott said, ”Dad, Nathan Fawcett is very attentive to Anne Sutton right now. If anything happened, it could cause trouble. We should probably hold off on doing anything rash. What do you think?”

Miles Prescott looked at Charles and said, ”Are you worried about causing trouble, or are you worried about Anne Sutton? What, you like her? After being engaged to her for a few years, have you forgotten your place? What’s so special about that woman that makes you so concerned? And what does the Sutton Family amount to, anyway?”

Charles Prescott denied it. ”I’m not.”

”Good that you’re not!” Miles Prescott glanced at him and said, ”After all these years of raising you, I’d hope you’d know better.”

...

Anne Sutton sat on the sofa, looked at Nathan Fawcett, and asked him, ”You and him... are you on good terms?”

”We’re great,” Nathan Fawcett said, his face expressionless.

Anne Sutton was speechless.

’Your expression doesn’t look like things are great!’

But Nathan Fawcett always seemed to be an outlier in this family. He was on a completely different wavelength from everyone else.

She didn’t know if it was because he was sick that he had such a bad temper, or if it was something else entirely.

Anne Sutton found talking with him to be rather dull. Her thoughts drifted to the things for her future baby that had been taken upstairs. She didn’t know if it would be a boy or a girl, but no matter what, this child was destined to be the treasure of the Fawcett family.

Anne Sutton went upstairs and saw that everything had been placed in a separate room. The room was huge.

Besides the things they bought today, there were other items prepared for the child. There was even a crib.

Anne Sutton asked, ”What’s all this for?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”It’s a room for the little one. All of his things will be kept in here from now on.”

Just then, the maids finished their work and came out. Anne Sutton glanced at the things Nathan Fawcett had bought, rummaging through them for a look. She realized he had bought quite a lot more after she had stopped looking.

It was as if he wanted to move the entire baby store into the Fawcett estate.

Anne Sutton said, ”Don’t you think you bought a little too much?”

”Too much?” Nathan Fawcett said. ”Once the room is ready, I’ll buy even more.”

He knew his time was running out.

That’s why he cherished every day he was alive, hoping he could leave more things behind for his daughter.

Anne Sutton said, ”If the baby knew how much his daddy adores him, he would be so happy.”

Nathan Fawcett stood to the side, his eyes darkening. ’Too bad...’

’The little one will never know!’

...

After looking at the things Nathan Fawcett had bought, Anne Sutton’s phone rang. It was Mrs. Sutton. ”Anne, your father said he’s treating the family to dinner tonight. You should come, too.”

Anne Sutton asked, ”What’s he up to now?”

”He just wants to treat everyone to a meal, that’s all. Aren’t you pregnant now? And the Fawcett family dotes on you, Chairman Fawcett has been very good to us, and all the company’s problems have been solved. So your father is very happy.”

Hearing this, Anne Sutton said, ”Alright, fine.”

She was free anyway, so she agreed.

Ever since the messy breakup with Charles Prescott, they had been worrying about the family every day and hadn’t had a meal together in a long time.

Now that her father was inviting her, Anne Sutton naturally had to go.

She hung up and said to Nathan Fawcett, ”My dad wants me to come home for a family dinner. Do you want to come with me?”

Nathan Fawcett looked cold. ”Why would an outsider like me go?”

The word ”outsider” made her choke.

’Then again, it’s true...’

’Even if she considered Nathan Fawcett one of her own, he might not feel the same way. After all, he still had Stella Shields!’

’She was getting ahead of herself.’

After tidying up a bit at home, Anne Sutton left.

Her father had said they were eating out, so she went to the restaurant where they usually held these meals.

Her father often came to this restaurant when treating people, so she was quite used to it.

Anne Sutton walked in, expecting to see only her family, but it turned out Charles Prescott and Miles Prescott were both there.

Seeing the two of them, Anne Sutton froze for a moment.

She looked at her father and realized he had tricked her again!

’He really loves getting mixed up with the Prescott family these days!’

’The Prescott father and son duo weren’t even good to him, but he insisted on treating them like friends. He just couldn’t shake that subservient streak in his bones.’

Sharon Sutton and Mrs. Sutton were also there.

Seeing her mother and sister, Anne Sutton walked in.

After entering, she glanced first at Charles Prescott. She saw him sitting there, unusually quiet. Usually, when they were out, he always acted high and mighty, but he wasn’t like that in front of his father.

Anne Sutton sat down and could see what looked like the marks of being hit on his face.

’He’d been hit?’

In fact, Anne Sutton’s fear of Miles Prescott was also related to Charles Prescott.

She remembered once, a long time ago, stumbling upon Charles Prescott getting beaten.

Compared to his peers, Charles Prescott was exceptionally outstanding.

He had joined the Fawcett Group at just eighteen to start handling business matters, which was why, despite being only in his twenties, he was already widely recognized by many.

His name was even more well-known than that of Nathan Fawcett, the sole son of the Fawcett family.

But...

Such excellence, of course, was also a product of his father’s influence.

His father was exceptionally strict with him.

The last time she had seen his father hit him was when Miles Prescott was forcing Charles to break up with her.

Back then, she didn’t know what Charles Prescott had been thinking, to actually refuse his father’s demand.

Perhaps it was because she remembered that moment that she had turned a blind eye to his fooling around all these years.

’But how did we end up like this?’

Seeing Anne Sutton sitting there in a daze, Sean Sutton said, ”This is your Uncle Prescott. He’s the one treating us today.”

Anne Sutton looked at Miles Prescott and said, ”Mr. Prescott, you’re so busy. To look for my father as soon as you returned, do you have something you need to say?”

When Sean Sutton saw how impolite she was being to Miles Prescott, his tone was full of disappointment. ”What’s this ’Mr. Prescott’? You’ve called him Uncle Prescott for so many years, have you forgotten?”

Anne Sutton said nonchalantly, ”If I really have to call him something now, I suppose it should be ’big brother’! After all, Charles Prescott will have to call me ’auntie’.”

Anne Sutton deliberately glanced at Charles Prescott. His face darkened as he looked back at her. It had to be said, she really had some nerve.

’Is she really not afraid of offending my father?’

Seeing how brazen Anne Sutton was being, Mrs. Sutton gently tugged on her clothes, signaling for her not to go too far.

Sean Sutton said to Miles Prescott, ”Mr. Prescott, don’t mind Anne. She’s just a kid. She had a bit of a falling out with Charles, so she’s still sulking.”

But Miles Prescott just laughed. ”Why would I? She didn’t say anything wrong. Indeed, now that she’s with Nathan, she’s my peer. It’s perfectly fine for her to follow his lead and call me ’big brother’.”
