Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

After all, Charles Prescott had brought this up with her before Nathan Fawcett had even passed away.

And yet...

Maybe because he hadn’t mentioned it again these past few days, she’d even held onto the faint hope that he’d had a change of heart, that he no longer wanted her to get rid of the baby.

Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott and said, ”The baby’s over seven months along. It won’t be long before he’s born. I can’t bear to get rid of him now! You know how difficult this pregnancy has been for me.”

She couldn’t fight him head-on, so she could only play the victim, hoping he might show some compassion.

Charles Prescott looked at her tenderly. ”Anne, I know. I know how hard it’s been for you; I’ve seen it with my own eyes. Once we get rid of the baby, I’ll be good to you! I promise, I’ll get a marriage license with you right away, and we’ll get married. Okay?”

Anne Sutton said, ”I can’t trust your promises. You have so many other women...”

’Whether he had other women or not, she didn’t care. But she was not going to get rid of this child.’

’There was no way she would agree to his proposal.’

Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott. ”You say you love me, but you can’t even tolerate this child? Nathan Fawcett is gone anyway. The baby will inherit the Fawcett estate, but if we’re together, it won’t affect anything, right? Everything the Fawcetts own will still be in your hands.”

Charles Prescott said, ”I can’t tolerate it! Every time I look at your stomach, it reminds me that you gave your all to that bastard Nathan Fawcett... Who the hell was he? Was he even worthy of you? Every time I see the child, I’ll feel like a cuckold. Just listen to me, okay? We’ll get rid of the baby, and we won’t let my dad know. Don’t worry, I won’t mistreat you in the future, Anne. Okay?”

’Although Chairman Fawcett was gone, he had left a will stating that everything the Fawcett family owned would go to the child in Anne Sutton’s womb.’

’That was why Charles Prescott could never allow this child to be born.’

’As for Anne Sutton’s suggestion that they could be together...’

’He had said he would marry her, but he had no intention of doing so.’

’He wanted to be with her, but he wouldn’t marry her. It would be bad for his reputation, after all. What would people think if they saw him marrying Nathan Fawcett’s widow?’

’His reputation would be ruined!’

’So, for now, he had to make her get rid of the baby first.’

...

Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott. ”You’re so obsessed with Nathan Fawcett, so how could I ever believe you’d marry me after I get rid of the baby? Charles Prescott, I’m tired of being fooled by you!”

Charles Prescott looked at her. ”Then what do you want from me to make you believe me? You said yourself that you don’t like Nathan Fawcett, so wouldn’t making his child disappear from this world be perfect?”

”...” Anne Sutton’s hands clenched into fists. She said to Charles Prescott, ”Just let me think about it.”

Charles Prescott looked at her downcast eyes and knew she hadn’t agreed.

He leaned in, whispering gently in her ear, ”Anne, can’t we go back to how we were before? We’ve known each other for so many years. Don’t all those years mean more than the short time you were with Nathan Fawcett? If you love me, you should think about it from my perspective. Nathan Fawcett is dead, but we have a whole life to live together. Do you want this child to be a wedge between us? I love you, and the thought of you having another man’s child drives me crazy. Get rid of this baby, and we can have our own later.”

’Anne Sutton stared at Charles Prescott, truly amazed by his silver tongue. He was obviously just trying to trick her into getting an abortion, yet he used his ’love’ for her as an excuse.’

’Yeah, he really ’loved’ her. So much that he was busy ’loving’ other women in bed every day!’

Anne Sutton said, ”I haven’t been feeling well the past couple of days. I want to go back to my family’s home for a few days. I miss my mom.”

Charles Prescott looked at her, considered it for a moment, and decided not to force her to stay. He just said, ”Alright, I won’t push you. But I hope you’ll go home and think about it carefully, okay?”

’Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott. He wanted her to think about it. Think about what?’

’Getting rid of this baby?’

’She would never get rid of him!’

’No matter what, she had to keep Nathan Fawcett’s child.’

’After all, Nathan Fawcett had nothing left in this world. This child was his only bloodline, his only hope.’

’Before, Anne Sutton had wanted to have this baby just to get revenge on Charles Prescott and to get her hands on the Fawcett fortune.’

’But truly, especially as the pregnancy had progressed, she had started to care more and more about the baby itself.’

’She even felt that if the baby was born and couldn’t inherit the Fawcett estate...’

’...she could accept that.’

-

Early the next morning, Anne Sutton had the Fawcett family’s driver take her back to her family’s home.

She was all alone in the Fawcett residence now. Even Chairman Fawcett, who had supported her, was gone. She felt it would be safer to be at home.

Mrs. Sutton was waiting by the car to greet her. ”Anne.”

Her eyes reddened at the sight of her daughter.

Ever since Nathan Fawcett passed away, Anne Sutton had become a widow in the truest sense of the word.

’If she had known things would turn out like this, it would have been better to let her be with Charles Prescott in the first place.’

Seeing her mother, Anne Sutton said, ”Aren’t you happy to see me?”

Mrs. Sutton said, ”It’s just... seeing you like this, you look so pitiful. Pregnant and all alone, with no one to look after you.”

”Who says there’s no one?” Anne Sutton retorted. ”Aren’t the maids people?”

”How can maids compare to having someone by your side who truly cares for you? A man is who you’re meant to rely on for your whole life.”

Anne Sutton wanted to plug her ears when she heard her mother’s words. She really didn’t want to listen.

Her mother’s views were so old-fashioned. She couldn’t comprehend that single women could live perfectly happy lives on their own. She believed that without a man to rely on, a woman couldn’t have a good life, no matter how capable she was.

Anne Sutton said, ”I’m just staying for a few days.”

”Alright!” Mrs. Sutton said.

...

Staying at home, with her mother cooking delicious meals for her, was pure bliss.

Her father, Mr. Sutton, came home during dinner.

He saw Anne Sutton and said, ”You’re back?”

Because he knew the child in Anne’s belly was the Fawcett family heir and had the Chairman’s backing before he died, Mr. Sutton hadn’t given Anne a hard time since Nathan passed.

He had even attended Chairman Fawcett’s funeral.

”Dad,” Anne Sutton said.

Mrs. Sutton went to get him a bowl of rice.

The family sat down to eat together.

Anne Sutton felt much more relaxed at home.

Since she’d returned from the Fawcett estate, her father hadn’t given her any trouble. He always spoke to her gently, and the atmosphere at home was quite pleasant.

’She’d thought it over. Charles Prescott couldn’t just storm into her family’s home and force her to get an abortion, could he?’

...

After dinner, Anne Sutton went upstairs. Feeling a bit drowsy, she went straight to sleep.

When she woke up, she found herself in a car.

Her body felt limp and she couldn’t muster any strength. Her eyelids were incredibly heavy.

Sean Sutton was sitting in the front seat, talking on the phone. ”I know, don’t worry! I’m on my way to the hospital now. No matter what, I will not let her have this baby.”
