Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Laisa bowed her head respectfully, keeping her gaze fixed on the carpet a meter ahead: ”The team led by Archmage Karmante will arrive at the Sia Tower in three days.”

As a gesture of cordiality towards Archmage Karmante, Archmage Ruth has requested that mages who are not meditating should ideally be present to greet them.”

Hilbert blinked his eyes: ”Karmante Tower, what happened?”

”Some mages rebelled, robbing and killing some people,” Laisa quickly responded, clearly having undergone some form of training. ”Although most of the rebels were purged by Archmage Karmante, a few managed to escape into the wilderness.”

”Is Prutt dead?” Hilbert asked directly, voicing his main concern.

”Mage Prutt and all his subordinates’ families were not spared,” Laisa’s lips curled slightly, ”Someone among his subordinates conspired with the traitors.

They poisoned the drinking water.

Of course, the Mid-High Rank Mages were not poisoned, but because their nearby family members and subordinates suddenly collapsed, they were too panicked and weren’t able to resist the traitors’ ambush.”

By the time Archmage Karmante rushed over, it was too late; no one survived.

Even their storage rings were stolen.

According to those nearby, it was a joint surprise attack by three Eighth Ring Mages, and Mage Prutt had no power to resist.”

Hilbert sometimes admired how these people fabricated stories: he might half-believe there was one Eighth Ring Mage among the attackers.

Three Eighth Rings... that’s outright lying; they could have established a small magic tower outside!

Especially this kind of clearly wanted evil entities... if they’re deemed still needing to be hunted in this world, one can imagine how terrifying they must be.

Even though the world is tightly controlled by the Sia Tower, demons would actually create survival spaces for those who commit heinous acts of arson, looting, and murder.

Only when the external environment is so harsh that independent survival is impossible would mages finally seek refuge under the banners of major magic towers.

Otherwise, there will always be some capable High-level Mages who choose to live alone.

As long as there’s mana and air in the outside world, and no apprentices to support, why would a mage be unable to survive?

Not everyone likes interacting with humans.

However, such mages are most likely to bring inexplicable troubles... demons have proven this point with countless painful lessons.

Hilbert wasn’t surprised at all that demons would try to suppress the emergence of solitary mages.

However, for Karmante Tower’s subordinates to speak so recklessly, it likely means that this Eighth Ring villain at least brought two High-level Mages.

Only in this way can it be explained, once the truth is uncovered, as a moment of panic that led to the inability to see clearly.

Hil wasn’t very interested in this matter; he only didn’t understand: ”Karmante Tower, didn’t leave even an Eighth Ring?”

Although Karmante would definitely not keep Prutt’s storage ring with him to avoid trouble, that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t keep any at all.

Otherwise, this drama he staged would be meaningless and, not to mention, embarrassing!

After all, he is a Ninth Ring, and the Tower Master of the Tower of Dark Enigma.

Letting someone infiltrate his team and then swagger away unscathed, this is kind of...

”Archmage Karmante had a chance to capture an Eighth Ring traitor,” Laisa continued in her trained manner of speaking, ”but unexpectedly encountered a beautiful woman arriving by moonlight, who suddenly crashed into the battle area for some unknown reason.”

Due to the suddenness, the bandit took advantage of the chaos to escape.”

”Hmm?” Hilbert couldn’t help but stand up, ”What did you say?”

”That lady in white just said she came from the Sia Tower and asked Archmage Karmante for a lift.”

Archmage Ruth only instructed us to say this much,” Laisa replied with poise, ”There’s no need to say more.”

”I understand,” Hilbert pressed his forehead, ”Thank you for passing the message.

Carpenter, please see, well, Laisa out for me.”

”Yes, teacher,” Carpenter, who had been quietly standing to the side, responded with a smile.

Taking the exquisite silver box handed over by Russell, Carpenter looked at Laisa with a smile: ”This way, I’ll see you out.”

Laisa immediately gave her a cautious smile, lifted the hem of her flowing robe, glanced at the stern expression of Russell standing aside, and quickly followed Carpenter’s steps.

After escorting her to the edge of his domain, Carpenter raised the silver box with both hands: ”Mage Laisa, this is a meeting gift from the teacher.

Please accept it.”

Laisa immediately declined repeatedly.

The two beautiful girls stood by the open tall iron gate, completing a push-pull ceremony that was both meaningless and necessary before Laisa accepted the exquisite silver box with a smile and bid farewell.

Laisa tried hard to maintain the smile on her face... until the iron gate shut firmly in front of her, blending swiftly with the three-meter-high wall next to it.

Laisa sighed softly, and the smile on her face collapsed instantly.

If it weren’t for the token from Ruth, she wouldn’t even have found the door.

Though mages can fly, Archmage Gilbert’s domain is tightly guarded by a Defensive Magic Array reaching directly to the Cloud Realm.

Mages can fly over it, but they must traverse the Cloud Realm.

Of course, mages who lack the skill to reach the Cloud Realm are not qualified to fly over his head.

This effectively blocks all mages below the Sixth Ring.

Previously, when Mage Gilbert was willing to communicate with the outside world, his gate was open... Although the location of the gate would change periodically, it could at least be found.

But after the recent sneak attack from the Sia Tower mages, Mage Gilbert completely shut his door.

Without his permission, there’s simply no way to find a way in.

Of course, everyone can understand his actions.

After all, no one knows what happened over at Sia Tower, and surprisingly, no one has come forward to soothe the emotions here at the Tower of Dark Enigma.

Initially, there was some unrest at the Tower of Dark Enigma, but unexpectedly, the silence from Sia Tower instead calmed them down.

Even if they don’t know what happened, the scream from the White Tower that day was definitely not without cause.

Clearly, something major happened.

No matter what it was, Gilbert chose to fully protect himself first, giving no one the chance to interfere.

However, this caused a somewhat awkward situation: Among the four Tower Masters of the Auxiliary Tower, only Rojas doesn’t have the permission to enter Gilbert’s territory.

At first, Rojas didn’t find anything wrong with it, after all, she hadn’t proactively approached Gilbert for communication.

But, when the others received certain strange objects made by Gilbert, she belatedly realized: The Auxiliary Tower didn’t need her to establish it, but it did require her to maintain and strengthen it.

She can be the weakest, but she can’t be left too far behind by the others.

However, Gilbert had already stopped selling externally... Only Aislin, Oliva, and Koyl could rely on past connections to trade with him.

Rojas finally realized she shouldn’t completely avoid interaction with the other students of Ruth.

At the very least, she needed a channel for communication with them.

In this regard, she was far behind Koyl.

No wonder Ruth suddenly asked Oliva to assign her some internal affairs-related tasks.

Others are easier to manage, there’s always a way to mend.

But Gilbert doesn’t give people a chance.

That’s why Laisa took the initiative to accept this message delivery task.

Though she is a warrior of immense strength, her appearance is delicate and frail.

While serious mages like Oliva and Gilbert wouldn’t develop any inappropriate ideas because of this, their words would be somewhat cautious.

Laisa certainly wouldn’t exploit her appearance for any benefits, but slightly lowering others’ guard isn’t significant.

Gilbert doesn’t care about a small figure like her, which Laisa doesn’t find surprising... Although she entered the Tower of Dark Enigma earlier than Gilbert, her abilities are much inferior.

Moreover, having been influenced by Aislin, she knows that those exposed to Aislin’s influence generally don’t care about the female mage issue.

However, when those two kids at an even lower level than her showed no intention of communicating with her, it left Laisa unable to hold back her disappointment.

She didn’t intend to do anything, only hoped to build a closer relationship.

After all, she still needed to return that token to Archmage Ruth later.

Opening the small silver box in her hand, Laisa chuckled bitterly as she gazed at the White-throated Magpie inside: A very beautiful little bird, it even matched her clothes today perfectly.

Yet, what she wanted was not just this one creature.

Mage Gilbert, why didn’t he even provide an opportunity for some courteous words?

-----------------

Hilbert doesn’t have time to consider a junior mage’s thoughts.

Upon hearing Laisa mention a certain white-robed female mage under the moonlight, her presence already vanished from his mind.

Being able to send her off politely showed that Hilbert retained some rationality.

When he realized who that figure might be, he immediately recalled a certain Rommel.

In some ways, Rommel was indeed the one who fit the appreciation of Glaysia’s preferences most.

He even quickly recalled Rommel’s appearance... Although he didn’t see him often, Gilbert nonetheless held a rather deep impression: An exceptionally unique aura, eyes filled with wisdom from a handsome youth.

Moreover, Gilbert had heard stories of Rommel playing the harp under the moonlight.

Of course, for Gilbert, who barely pays attention to external affairs, for him to have any impression, something significant must be involved.

If Rommel were not the proud disciple of Kamente Tower, not the long-time rival frequently battling Aislin... This figure might actually be Aislin’s favorite type.
