Surviving The Fourth Calamity

The information in Kamente Tower’s possession is still quite complete.

Although the people he placed with Ruth are not that well-informed, the ones with Nicholson live quite comfortably.

As long as Ruth doesn’t sever the external communication, the information here in Kamente Tower generally won’t lack in quantity or quality.

Complete absence is certainly impossible.

But sometimes, missing part of the information can only be considered a reference, and cannot be fully trusted.

This is a profound lesson learned by Kamente Tower through years of blood and tears.

It was only after several near-death crises that he realized, despite appearances, Ruth and Nicholson weren’t really against each other, but those two are still family.

They are still a family that cherishes each other.

It’s somewhat difficult for him to provoke them.

Kamente Tower doesn’t really believe those two can always remain united, but he alone is not capable of providing interests substantial enough to cause them to fall out.

Moreover, he doesn’t need to!

The longer those two hold up, the more it aligns with his interests.

Rommel glanced at Kamente Tower, who started daydreaming again... Even though he had been mentally prepared for a long time, this guy is still quite fearful of the Tower of Sia, which nearly turned him into a puppet.

He hasn’t been quite normal lately.

Fortunately, Rommel had already taken preventive measures. Kamente Tower knows he has no other choice but to follow Rommel on this adventure, otherwise, Rommel doesn’t know what this cowardly and selfish guy might do.

Although Kamente Tower has some humanity, people like him were once too numerous around Rommel.

Devils are best at breaking down the hearts of such individuals.

On the contrary, those who completely surrender to evil can maintain self-control... Of course, if such individuals can’t handle their greed, the outcome could be even more disastrous.

Rommel lowered his head and reviewed the intelligence report again... What’s the most crucial part?

He had long been mentally prepared that Gilbert Hainarson would encounter trouble.

Rommel always felt Ruth’s attitude toward Hainarson was not quite normal.

If that guy were truly as passive as he appeared, letting fate lead him and accepting the secret plans of the Tower of Sia, then some of his behaviors would be overly abnormal.

For example, his attitude towards Kamente Tower.

Especially in the final stage, Rommel purposely displayed some oddities to act calmly after entering the Tower of Sia.

After discovering this, Ruth’s first reaction was to team up with Nicholson to completely conceal his presence, and then naturally established some sort of understanding with Kamente Tower.

Only those who are constantly prepared can handle these matters so naturally.

Rommel of course knows that all the Magic Towers in this world are secretly guarding against the Tower of Sia, but people’s behaviors when they’ve done or not done certain things still differ.

However, no matter how Rommel studied it, he couldn’t find Ruth’s flaws.

This really surprised him.

Hence, he can only deduce backward from the consequences... Gilbert Hainarson is the biggest anomaly among those normal circumstances.

Although everything can be covered up by that guy’s extraordinary talents.

Yet, having served as a leader for many years, Rommel deeply understands that for those who hold power, having potential is the least meaningful evaluation.

Being useful is the only thing they care about.

Of course, every leader will show importance to the future, but offering resources, status, or even exercising the friendliest attitude is just a gesture.

If they actually invested their cherished items, then it means the counterpart represents not the future, but the present.

Therefore, from the beginning, Rommel understood that Hainarson must be an important cog in Ruth’s plans.

So he wouldn’t be surprised that Gilbert could single-handedly withstand the joint assault of two Ninth Ring Archmages.

What’s that worth?

He stared blankly outside the window... Suddenly recalling his once turbulent homeland.

Gilbert’s talents are just that.

This incident rather dispelled a slight doubt in his heart: Although it was unpleasant, Rommel also felt that Gilbert’s airship wasn’t as poorly performing as it seemed.

Rommel is one who absolutely cannot accept anything influencing his judgment.

Thus, even if it irked him, he carefully observed.

However, when investigating the child’s information, Rommel somewhat discovered a trait: what he learns, he never forgets.

The tactile sense developed through practice won’t dissipate, even if he doesn’t use it again later.

Hence, he somewhat understood why that airship appeared somewhat unnatural yet had some fluid line sections.

There were some curves with peculiar arcs that Gilbert clearly hadn’t practiced.

Indeed, the child previously had no leisure to make airships... being both ugly and useless, normal people wouldn’t bother.

Upon confirming Gilbert was indeed Gilbert, Rommel finally convinced himself to stop pondering this little fellow’s issues.

But another thought floated in his mind: ”Kamente Tower, do you think Ruth knows what’s in Delphus’s hands?”

”How would I know?” Kamente Tower replied decisively, ”If you hadn’t analyzed it for me, I wouldn’t have seen how Ruth tricked me again!

Such a critical matter, he wouldn’t let me know, Nicholson probably doesn’t know anything either!”

Rommel looked on steadily, ”You’re really something, comparing yourself with Nicholson?”

”Hmm? Didn’t you say Nicholson was quite capable?” Kamente Tower asked in surprise, ”Didn’t you just praise him for managing his subordinates well a few days ago?”

”Only in certain aspects.” Rommel said slowly, ”In aspects that the Mages don’t care about at all.

Are you the same as him?

He doesn’t need to strain his brain because most of the time he relies on premonitions, and when that fails, he has Ruth to back him up.

What about you?”

”That’s why I’ve ended up where I am today, haven’t I?” Kamente Tower didn’t mind Rommel’s sarcasm, even responding cheerfully, ”But I’ve been lucky!

Didn’t I just meet you!”

Rommel wasn’t affected by this guy’s flattery... Having seen flattery from millions, he was immune to any words of praise.

He believed that anyone who had interacted with that crowd wouldn’t be swayed by any accolade or shaken by any curse.

All the languages in the Multiverse combined probably don’t have as many words as those people have created.

He just looked at Kamente Tower seriously and asked, ”Do you have no contact with Mages of other Magic Towers, those with similar status to yours?”

”What do you want to know?” Kamente Tower replied slowly, ”There’s definitely contact, but it’s all to complete the tasks assigned by the Sia Tower.

You understand, although we’re manipulated to different extents, Sia Tower is always the priority.

Even if we don’t feel our own abnormalities, we can all confirm that each other is abnormal.”

Rommel instantly understood: the relationship among those like Kamente Tower was probably very tense.

After all, it’s just seeing the black ravens on each other.

So, you can’t determine any correct path from their words, the more you listen, the more confused you become, that’s the reality.

”Is the relationship between the Defense Tower and the Tower of Dark Enigma very close?” Rommel changed his line of thought.

”Before I assumed the position of Tower Master, they had quite a lot of communication.” Kamente Tower reminisced with his head raised, ”But the Defense Tower has always been wary of Sia Tower. Once they confirm that there’s someone like me on the rise in a Magic Tower, they immediately cut off contact.

Moreover, the Tower of Dark Enigma has maintained good relations with other Magic Towers.

After all, they’ve done quite a few prophecies for them before.”

”Prophecies?” Rommel murmured.

”But that was a thousand years ago.” Kamente Tower said nonchalantly, ”The abilities of those Prophecy Mages from the Tower of Dark Enigma aren’t good enough to see the current fate.”

”How do you know?”

”Hmm? It’s always been like that! The truly powerful Prophecy Mage inheritance was severed thousands of years ago.”

Rommel furrowed his brow: ”I see.”

It seems he’ll only be able to observe once he gets to Sia Tower.

Kamente Tower, this guy, is really... useless at critical times.

Forget it, I didn’t expect him to do anything anyway.

But Rommel still felt that Delphus’s behavior was odd.

Ruth’s reaction wasn’t normal either.

He was overly silent.

As for that Aislin... is it a Doppelgänger or an Avatar? Whose?

Glaysia?

It doesn’t quite seem like it!

Would the Succubus Queen even botch such a simple Soul-Splitting Spell?

Rommel tried to recall how the Duke of Demons who attempted to drag him into Hell had described the family of the Lord of Hell.

In the end, he shook his head and gave up.

He never believes the words of the Evil Faction.

Although he sometimes sides with evil, that’s just to achieve his goals, not because he truly thinks the stance of the Evil Faction is better.

”Half a month left.” Rommel muttered, ”Kamente Tower, I need intelligence related to Delphus, especially his relations with the Defense Tower... who he actively hunted, cursed, and which places of the Defense Tower he visited.

Also, in Sia Tower, which Mages died because of his actions, what are their backgrounds, can you find out which Magic Tower they’re from?”

”Is it really important?” Kamente Tower asked curiously, ”If Delphus really is a problem, then isn’t it Sia Tower’s trouble?”

”Not distinguishing between enemy and ally will only doom oneself.” Rommel answered softly.
