Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Hill, with countless thoughts, clenched his fist tightly in the sudden Light of Dawn: If his encounter this time is another stroke of a god’s pen, he will definitely take revenge in the future!

Absolutely take revenge!

Don’t tell him it’s for his own good... the thing Hill hates most in life is this phrase!

Destiny, what the hell is it actually!

Hill is truly a bit irritated.

-----------------

More irritated than Hill was Aislin, who dove into the hall of Ruth after sending off Rosero.

”What’s wrong?” Ruth put down the book in his hand... although the Sia Tower was always stirred by undercurrents, the open treatment gave them everything.

Especially the Great Library.

Ruth gathered many books he had never read before during this period and even made a reading list for his students.

He hasn’t actually been as calm as he showed.

Although his students are not too willing to bother him, how could Ruth not know what’s happening?

Even though he truly wouldn’t sacrifice his life for any student, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about his students’ safety... under the premise of not affecting his own life and future, Ruth still is willing to do something for his students.

Not to mention, those drawn into today’s chaos were the ones he cared the most about: Aislin and Gilbert.

However, the unexpected incident on Delphus’s side was astonishing enough, yet something inexplicable happened at the White Tower... Ruth’s book hadn’t been turned for half a day.

He could still maintain his reading posture, which is due to his usual steadiness.

”I’m not clear on the specifics of what happened.” Aislin answered softly, ”But, that one was extremely frantic, even refused to share memory and vision with me.”

Ruth raised his head in surprise... this was Aislin’s first time directly speaking about her.

”She now...”

”Sank deep into the Mental Sea, completely asleep.” Aislin’s face was filled with confusion, ”Only leaving a sentence, don’t call her unless necessary.”

Although Ruth always hoped Aislin could appear more often to find a way to firmly place this so-called false mask outside Aislin’s soul, he didn’t expect his goal could be achieved so easily.

Since they came to Sia Tower, it seemed the Tower of Dark Enigma has turned lucky instead?

Every step has gone so smoothly.

No matter from which aspect.

Flap-flap~

The sound of bird wings appeared outside the floor-to-ceiling window in Ruth’s hall.

Aislin turned her head and found several metal birds hovering there... Aislin certainly recognized them as Gilbert’s puppet crows.

Although these little birds don’t have the same attack power as the Flying Eagle, their authorized controllers can still synchronize with the scenes seen through the Flying Eagle’s eyes.

”Teacher, how much did you see?”

Aislin didn’t think Gilbert would involve the teacher right from the start, the biggest possibility was during the first failed attack by Delphus, when ’Aislin’ and Rosero hadn’t come forward.

Also, at that time Gilbert’s flock of birds seemed to be hovering right in the Cloud Realm.

Though Aislin didn’t quite understand the functions of these puppets, she knew that the Flying Eagle’s abilities hadn’t reached the point where it could attack while synchronizing imagery transmission.

Thinking of that so-called main body, she couldn’t help shaking her head, lately, the gap between ’Aislin’ and herself seemed to be growing.

Aislin sometimes didn’t know whether she really was completely different or... felt something was off, so deliberately showed that difference.

Anyhow, over this period, her style in doing things has been a bit too extreme.

Although Gilbert probably didn’t think ’Aislin’ would tear up the alliance at this point, the malicious friendliness of that one certainly made it hard for Gilbert to trust.

Who knows if she’ll suddenly go mad.

Aislin herself couldn’t understand that one’s train of thought... so, although Gilbert’s distrust somewhat displeased her, she didn’t resent this junior apprentice anymore and could understand his actions.

A normal person always needs to be cautious faced with a madman.

”Starting when Delphus and several others ascended Gilbert’s Magic Tower.” Ruth smiled faintly, ”Seems like you aren’t completely unaware?”

”Yeah.” Aislin nodded, ”She didn’t cut off all images, just, you know, the last part, including why the Silvermoon above the White Tower suddenly disappeared.”

She suddenly felt a bit dazed: ”Don’t know why, I always felt, that Silvermoon...

Lady Sia seemed to be attempting to control the moon.

She intends...”

”Lady Sia is originally the Agent of Goddess Bisozeya!” Ruth interrupted her, ”Although she is a mage, she can’t simply be just a mage.

There are some differences between God’s Chosen and mages.”

Aislin pursed her lips: ”Shouldn’t be that significant.”

She understood, Ruth was implying she shouldn’t divulge secrets relating to Sia.

She further grasped that Ruth didn’t want to know because her views and memories, if spoken, wouldn’t just bring trouble, but might also lead to disastrous outcomes.

Even she herself cannot be sure if her memories are real.

If someone can sever the visions she sees through her body, then... how much of her past memories are real?

When there’s no absolute certainty, not knowing can be safer.

Fortunately, during this period, to avoid arousing ’Aislin’s’ suspicion, she’s indeed not spoken about anything serious.

”Heh~” Ruth shook his head, ”Gilbert is quite lucky.

Those two Strange Objects of Delphus... in front of him, seem a bit like a joke.”

”How could Gilbert’s lineage be so close to that Archmage’s?” Aislin was also curious, ”The Order Jewel from the second attack was formidable, but why did the result turn out like that? I can’t quite understand it.

But the attack power of that Magic Ballista from the first attack, I could calculate it.

Gilbert’s Magic Tower probably only withstood half of the attack power.”

”The Hainarson Clan likes to continue intermarrying within the same family.” Ruth waved the book in his hand, ”They are quite typical Nobles, having their own bottom line while hoping their allies have one too.

Moreover, their alliances need constant reaffirming... after all, the branch in charge of the family will not always be the same.

Once a superior lineage takes over, they have to remarry into their allies again.

So, even though they’re from two different factions, if the two branches marrying are from the same family, the bloodlines will surely be very similar.”

”Gilbert’s luck is really good.” Aislin was a bit jealous.

”His luck always comes with various troubles.” Ruth shook his head, ”Think about it, when has Gilbert ever naturally advanced like you, or, well, Oliva?

Who wants to encounter setbacks during growth?

Indeed, he seems lucky, overcoming each setback gracefully and growing well.

But... clearly, these setbacks are unnecessary!

His Talents are not lacking.”

Aislin looked up at the sky for a while, then suddenly laughed, ”He’s like the protagonist in an adventure novel.”

”Yet he’s not that...” Ruth pointed at her with his fingers, ”Think about yourself when you say that.”

Indeed, she’s the one who embodies all the troubles of the female protagonist... living recklessly in the first half of her life, the greatest pain being losing her sight again.

But her identity, status, and abilities allowed her to live freely after regaining her sight.

Until she was dealt a heavy blow in the end.

All the indulgence seemed to be leading up to this day’s vanishing.

Even if she finally found a ray of hope... Aislin knew very well that all she could save in the end was her own Soul.

Her body was beyond rescue.

Just like the inexplicable advancement to the Eighth Ring.

Although merging with this World’s Rules did indeed give her a hand to some extent, the disharmony between Soul and body remains a huge danger... when ’Aislin’ separated the primary Soul that enabled her to advance to the Eighth Ring from this body, having no resonance with those Rules, even if she remained, she surely wouldn’t be able to Control her body.

The Laws will not understand her necessity, they will just leave as well.

A body that has been infused with the Power of Laws will naturally collapse along with it.

Aislin knew well that Ruth and that Gilbert had figured this out, which is why they’ve been so tolerant towards her lately.

Especially Gilbert.

In the past, there was no way he would have helped this Aislin after ’Aislin’ offended him.

After all, the reason that woman sought him out, and managed to cause him trouble, was all under the name of Aislin.

Aislin smiled helplessly, ”Ah~ Teacher, fortunately you are my teacher.”

She could only blend the unspeakable bitterness and sorrow into this one sentence.

Sometimes Aislin also wondered, what if her teacher had not been Ruth, but someone else... such as a person from Kamente Tower.

What would she have become?

She really doubted that such a self, even if replaced by ’Aislin’, would be unnoticed by anyone.

Even a Ninth Ring Archmage with the sharpest observation couldn’t see the difference in temperament between them.

A Mage with principles, like Ruth, who would even try to pull back a student’s deviating character, is indeed rare.

Ruth looked up at her, pointing to the book on the table, ”The list of books I gave you, how much have you read?

Lately, since you can’t go out anyway, read more books!”

Though he said no more, staring into Aislin’s eyes was like a screensaver repeating: Read more books, get smarter.

Being scolded for so long, Aislin certainly understood.

She, of course, understood that for ’Aislin’ to hide as she did, she... really shouldn’t show her face outside.

But if she was willing to read books, she wouldn’t... be reprimanded every day, right?
