Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Oliva still didn’t quite understand.

Like Aislin, he’s actually quite a selfish person.

But selfish doesn’t mean he has no character, he just doesn’t put himself in others’ shoes.

However, Oliva does have a fairly good quality; he knows he’s often inconsiderate and it’s easy to offend people.

Externally, he’s not interested in changing his attitude for the sake of others.

But internally, unless it affects his own interests, Oliva remains easygoing.

He nodded towards Hilbert: ”I’ll remember to praise her in a different way.

Anyway, she’s quite useful.”

Hill shook his head helplessly, giving him only a dismissive smile.

This is why he can never really dislike Oliva... in such a world, people like Oliva, who have boundaries, are truly rare.

He can’t think those living in such a cruel world without any empathy are simply evil!

Hill looked down at the nearly finished construction at the tower top, then seriously asked Oliva again: ”Want to help me build the wall?”

”No way!” Oliva immediately replied, ”You look pretty good anyway, so I’ll be off!”

”Where are you going?” Hilbert took a deep breath, pulling out large metal plates and stone bricks from his storage ring, floating them around him.

The result of too much attention is that he has to build the wall himself.

The puppets are not unusable, but... the ones he’s currently using are rather clumsy, unable to integrate magic arrays into the wall while building it.

Rather than waste time squatting on the side, waiting for the puppets to do a bit while he fixes a bit, it’s better to do it himself.

He isn’t incapable.

It’s just that work that could be finished in one thought has to be done in multiple steps, which annoys him slightly.

”I plan to inspect our territory while your reputation is rising.” Oliva answered nonchalantly, ”It’s a perfect time to cut off those claws that sneaked in before.

Hehe~ The teacher always said to wait for the right moment, now seems pretty good to me.

Thanks to your extraordinary ability, we held on till the end without Rosero having to step in.

It’s no wonder the teacher made us add an energy absorbing array in the main magic tower; in this place, it’s really quite useful.”

Oliva clearly mentioned the energy absorbing array deliberately.

Although Gilbert could withstand the joint attack of two Ninth Ring Archmages, three Eighth Ring Mages... and even Delphus had war machines... for various other reasons, but this at least proved that the Tower of Dark Enigma was strong enough.

No matter what those people wanted to test, now they ought to be a bit more restrained.

Even though Gilbert is a rare array master, he is only Seventh Circle... the Tower of Dark Enigma’s energy absorbing array at this moment surpassed Gilbert’s growing reputation.

His performance was so impressive that naturally the presence of the Tower of Dark Enigma became much stronger.

Taking advantage of the Sia Tower group still not knowing what attitude to take towards the Tower of Dark Enigma, it is indeed time to clean up his own territory.

Hill couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow... every time he feels Oliva is such a troublemaker, he can immediately see his excellence.

Indeed, normally, most people can think of these matters.

But those who can think timely and then immediately take action are really not that many.

Just like knowing Hilbert isn’t in any danger but coming over to check on this junior brother’s situation before the inspection.

Facing this kind of Oliva, what can Hill do?

He can only watch Oliva’s figure quickly fly away, with a helpless smile.

Then, he continued to fix his rooftop.

As Hill stacked the floating stones onto the wall, he suddenly remembered something: recently, Oliva and Aislin always used to mention Koyl.

How did it suddenly become Rojas?

Did that guy crash?

-----------------

Koyl, who Hill was thinking about, was standing numbly in a two-story round hall connected to Ruth’s Great Magic Tower, dealing with various visitors.

As the highest leader of the Tower of Dark Enigma, Archmage Ruth had a certain responsibility to all those following him to the Sia Tower; he couldn’t solely focus on his students and subordinates.

So, within the scope of his protection, the people from the Nicholson faction were also included... at least on the surface.

Although the people from the Nicholson Family wouldn’t really expect Archmage Ruth to reach out when they encounter a crisis, but they wouldn’t hesitate to flip their hand to show their palm when it comes to fundamental resources.

With the same number of airships, Ruth’s side brought a lot of resources, while Nicholson brought many people in need.

What can Ruth do?

The mage resources given by Sia Tower were considerable, but they certainly wouldn’t give War Machine bricks or iron to the mages of the Tower of Dark Enigma out of idle time!

Yet letting Ruth give for free, he couldn’t swallow that bitterness either.

So, he could only set up a resource trading hall... Although the prices were much cheaper than those at the Sia Tower and adopted a more bartering approach, Ruth was absolutely unwilling to give anything away for free.

Even if it was just a blade of grass, he still had to at least receive a ’thank you’ as compensation!

Then Archmage Ruth looked around... Among the students he could use, the only one who could remain calm and bargain patiently in the face of those shameless people from the Nicholson Family was Koyl.

Koyl initially really thought that he had been kicked out from Ruth’s side by Aislin and Oliva because he wanted to show himself too much and was perceived as a threat.

After all, the novice mages who came to trade were quite honest in the beginning; he only needed to sit in the middle of the second-floor hall and watch Ruth’s entourage communicate with them.

The pricing was essentially according to their Tower of Dark Enigma’s customary practices; there was no need to fuss over anything.

Moreover, Ruth only intended to provide these people with the resources they brought from the Tower of Dark Enigma.

From the side of the Sia Tower, they didn’t have anything themselves!

They’re not stupid, why would they buy high and sell low?

But after the Main Magic Tower of Great Magician Nicholson was built and his high-level students started building their homes, Koyl understood the significance of why Ruth had to have him stay here.

The Nicholsons are truly shameless!

Koyl thought he was already quite worldly... But it turned out he was just a little guy who hadn’t seen much of the world!

How could someone, being an Eighth Ring Mage, pressure him, a Seventh Circle Mage, over a pile of iron blocks!

Of course, the other party wasn’t planning to get it for free.

They just wanted to exchange it for a pile of stones... stones already cut into stone bricks.

To say these things were worthless, that’s not entirely true either.

After all, the demand for this stuff is very high when building a Magic Tower.

But to say it’s important... once a mage reaches the Fifth Circle, who couldn’t conjure a pile of it with a flick of the wrist?

Koyl went from sweating and facing off against these people under pressure to staring at his opponents in silence and implicitly rejecting their demands within less than five days.

He certainly felt the responsibility Ruth entrusted to him... But Koyl really didn’t want such attention.

He would rather be outmaneuvering and warring minds with people.

Right now, Koyl really wished he could be like Gilbert with his notoriously bad temper... then he wouldn’t be assigned to this fool’s task!

Here, his only reason for existence was that no matter how unbelievable the words he’d hear, he wouldn’t fly into a rage and start hitting people.

Koyl, of course, also knew what happened to Gilbert, but he had no mood to care... of course, he still checked on whether he was alive, and sincerely wrote a letter of condolence and sent a sympathy gift.

But asking him to personally express concern, he couldn’t do it.

Now he just wants to know why he can’t just throw a big fireball at the other guy at the first sign of absurd demands.

Moreover, Koyl now wanted to know if Archmage Ruth intended to keep this trading center running until the domain over there at Kamente Tower was also built... if the people of Nicholson are shameless, then over at Kamente Tower, they probably wouldn’t even want their skin.

They would just want free stuff.

Koyl felt his prediction was very likely; otherwise, why would a trading center need him, nominally Ruth’s Supporter, a Seventh Circle Mage, to oversee it?

He had so many Seventh Circle senior and junior brothers!

What’s wrong with Gilbert? Isn’t he very strong? Can’t he just kick out a Ninth Ring!

What should he do... how can he change jobs before Kamente Tower arrives?

-----------------

”Rommel.” Kamente Tower looked at the information in his hands with a surprised expression, ”Take a look at this.”

During this time together, Kamente Tower finally got rid of his overly respectful demeanor in front of Rommel.

Rommel’s immense vigilance and visible dread towards the Sia Tower made Kamente Tower cautious.

Afraid that he might, with a single mistake, get them both killed.

No, only he would be the one to die.

This man in front of him certainly has escape means, daring to go to Sia Tower.

After all, Ruth and Nicholson both guessed there’s something unusual about his identity.

And once a third person knows a secret, it’s no longer a secret.

That both sides could ensure confidentiality only proves that in some ways, Rommel’s existence indicated they still had a sliver of hope.

They don’t have to rely solely on their weak bodies to helplessly resist the collapsing heavens.

They are all small skiffs struggling in monstrous waves, who knows when the boat will be wrecked with no survivors.

But to ask them to completely abandon everything, throw away their soul and dignity, future and homeland— even someone as selfish and ruthless as Kamente Tower couldn’t do it.

Or rather, because he still had a tiny bit of a limit, he was turned into a puppet by the Devil.

Those who have none are the ones in Sia Tower enjoying the show!
