Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Finally, Pet closed her mouth and lifted her eyes to glance at Gilbert, who sat opposite her.

The young and handsome male mage, dressed in a pale, slightly grayish purple robe... Pet couldn’t quite tell which shade of purple he was using.

This grayish-purple wasn’t included in the color spectrum she had researched.

As a high-level mage from the Tower of Dark Enigma, Pet had recently gotten to know him a bit better, so she was certain that this color was used only by Gilbert.

This must be a shade that this guy himself has researched.

Is this the sensitivity possessed by those skilled in artistic creation?

Having seen Gilbert’s two students painting by the easel near the floor-to-ceiling window more than once, Pet couldn’t help but feel a bit emotional.

She was the one who helped hire their painting teacher, so she was well aware that both of these children’s talents were quite good and their foundations were quite solid.

Especially that Russell, who was almost at the level of directly graduating... what he needed was the traditional painting techniques that teacher learned from the Sia Tower.

Moreover, Pet was even more aware that Gilbert’s painting skills were the best.

It’s just that he was wrapped up in affairs and really had no time to teach his students the basics... it was obvious that Carpenter was the one who needed detailed instruction from a teacher.

The girl’s foundation was actually pretty good too; it’s just that perhaps she didn’t prioritize these things before, hence there were some leaks in her painting techniques.

She needed the teacher to meticulously supplement her foundation, and then fill in her proficiency with a lot of practice.

But she was still easy to teach; she generally didn’t need the teacher to repeat instructions.

The meaning of these words, Pet naturally understood clearly: Russell had talent, Carpenter had perseverance.

But, the one with the highest talent was Gilbert himself.

Actually, this was the same with mages: those with the highest level of talent were, conversely, not so skilled at instructing ordinary students.

And how good the opposing party’s artistic talent was could be seen from Gilbert’s very unique purple robe.

The Tower of Dark Enigma publicly decided less than a year ago that the primary color at the Sia Tower would be purple, and Gilbert managed to create a special color for himself.

As for Pet, she has conducted countless experiments but still had no clue on Aislin’s order... ’unique purple’.

”What kind of purple is this?” After pondering left and right, Pet muttered aloud.

Hill, who had been waiting for her response, couldn’t help but be stunned... he was asking what Pet wanted to do, and this woman ended up thinking about his robe color?

The people of the Sia Tower seemed to all have some kind of problem.

Did the devil feed them some brain-addling poison?

Gilbert’s widened eyes finally awakened Pet’s reason, only then did she realize what she had done... clearly more important was dealing with Delphus, yet she suddenly acted as if she had an acute disease at this crucial moment.

”Ah... sorry,” Pet said with an embarrassed smile, ”For years, I’ve been researching various color combinations, especially clothing colors.

You know, there are only a few types of black, but many whites.

I managed to rise from being an ordinary high-level mage to my current position... the first step was developing exclusive white robes for certain mages.

Coupled with the later pursuit of various colors by neutral mages, I finally had enough resources.

Just like how your Tower of Dark Enigma is sure to pursue all sorts of purples, only an Archmage who can have an independent Magic Tower in the Sia Tower, and dye it a unique color, truly stands firm.

And as someone who can provide these resources, I naturally am quite popular, and not easily targeted by anyone.

After all, although it’s still profitable, it’s my exclusive ability... I’ve sacrificed my foundational spells to reach this point.

Even if others wanted to learn, it’s very difficult to reach my level.

Aside from that guy Delphus, who believes marrying me would grant him all my resources, no one has really tried to take me down.”

Hill couldn’t help but twitch the corner of his mouth: he could completely understand why Pet was so interested in matters only related to Hainarson.

Of course, this was just a reasonable explanation, not the main one.

At any rate, Pet was also a mage who grew up in the Devil’s Den; she might be disgruntled with someone due to certain matters, and quickly give them a kick when the person has no way to resist standing at the cliff’s edge, but she definitely wouldn’t be the one standing at the forefront.

Unless the stakes are high enough, disputes are definitely not worth the hassle for her to involve herself.

Otherwise, Delphus wouldn’t be so scorned by the Archmages of Sia Tower... picking fights with those he can’t afford over a moment’s anger.

Of course, the one he couldn’t afford was not ’Gilbert’, but the one who warned him not to act, Rosero.

Rosero, as Glaysia’s spokesperson, guess few would dare to uphold his orders in such a passive-aggressive manner.

Even though they’ve silently accepted it, they still dare to confront Gilbert so openly.

Pet glanced at Gilbert, who had a face wearing a careless smile, clearly indifferent to her words, and pursed her lips: ”Delphus has long been trying to contest my influence.”

He often caused trouble for me in secret, and I’ve long wanted to slap him twice!

It’s rare to have such a good opportunity this time... Of course, it would be great if you could help craft some special Strange Objects.

The booklet I gave you contains the spell characteristics of Delphus.

I’m not going to beat around the bush, if you can develop a Strange Object that specifically counters Delphus, not only me, everyone will pay a high price to acquire it!

Rest assured, he’s dared to offend even Rosero, no one will help him!”

Hilbert responded with a couple of ’oh, oh’, his facial expression seemed frozen in that fake smile: You speak quite well, but alas, not even half as cunning as the little fairy Vila.

He didn’t even need a reminder from Natural Consciousness; Hill could hear the insincerity and awkwardness in these words, making it impossible for him to even pretend to accept.

Pet hesitated a bit, looking around... No wonder Ruth values this Gilbert so much, he’s really too shrewd!

She’s already stated half the truth, yet he still doesn’t believe a bit!

”Ah~ Gilbert,” Pet finally sighed, ”As you see, Delphus is someone who can make a lot of money.

But, he’s reluctant to spend it.

Initially, everyone thought his ability to save up was to, um, gain some special favor.

After all, although he’s a Ninth Ring, um, he’s just so-so.”

Pet was still unwilling to tell Gilbert anything related to the characteristics of the Ninth Ring Mages, not even offering the most worthless information.

If Hill didn’t understand himself, he would probably think that Pet was saying Delphus is similar to ’Aislin’, reaching the level, but incapable of using Ninth Ring Spells.

But in reality, someone like Aislin is the most unique.

Even the worst Ninth Ring Mage would inevitably use Ninth Ring Spells related to their resonating Laws.

At most they are not very adept, or perhaps the spells consume too much energy to use easily.

But it’s absolutely not impossible to use them.

If Gilbert were to mistakenly believe her, he would surely meet a bad end in the future.

But typically, a mage with the kind of legacy Gilbert has wouldn’t be deceived by such words... unless his teacher didn’t teach him anything.

But everyone knew about Ruth’s concern for Gilbert, he couldn’t possibly be unaware of such basic knowledge.

So, Hill quickly realized, this narrative style that just has to entrap people with words must be Pet’s habit.

Whether she has grudges or not, her words are always like this.

No wonder this woman is widely connected, yet has no friends.

But then again, what need is there for friends at Sia Tower?

Here, the survival law is to con whoever believes in you.

As she hinted that she wanted to deal with Delphus because he accumulated too many resources... which could be seen as a huge temptation even for a Ninth Ring Archmage, but if Hilbert believed her hints and cooperated, then later, Pet would surely throw him out as a scapegoat for internal conflicts.

Sia Tower, though not as strict as Tower of Dark Enigma regarding internal conflict, also has its limits.

The person who initiates the fight must bear the main responsibility... otherwise, Pet wouldn’t come looking for Hilbert for cooperation.

Only if Hilbert agrees to ally with her will Pet qualify to participate in this matter.

But, even retaliation must vary in degree.

Like what Pet hinted, where Delphus’s assets are all reassigned, the person who took action will also be punished.

After all, your intention is no longer defense and counterattack, but to eradicate everything.

But if Pet doesn’t clarify her words, then even if she ends up taking most of the resources, the main responsibility will only fall on Hilbert.

She, and possibly some other Ninth Ring Archmages looking to participate, will naturally walk away elegantly.

The only one possibly getting unlucky alongside might just be Archmage Ruth, as he would inevitably stand by Hilbert... just as well, it could help suppress the threatening aura coming from the Tower of Dark Enigma related to the Sia White Robe.

Thinking well, but it’s up to Hilbert to see if he’s that foolish... he’s no Oliva!

Even if Gilbert were sitting here, he wouldn’t let the other side play such little games!

Realizing this, Hilbert simply continued to smile and gaze at Pet... Without a clear explanation, with responsibilities and rights laid out distinctly, he would absolutely not proactively extend an alliance invitation.

Pet hesitated for a while, noticing that the mage opposite her showed no signs of wavering, and could only say slowly: ”Didn’t I say, Delphus is extremely wealthy... it’s enough resource for more than ten of you to advance to the Ninth Ring.

Moreover, as someone secretly harassed by him before, I’m entitled to seek revenge.

Just right, we two victims could perhaps collaborate a bit, what do you think?”
