Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Though there are undercurrents on Ruth’s side, the four who could potentially have a direct confrontation each have their own reasons for restraint, so for now, things remain calm.

First, Oliva... his actions are not excessive, the meaning of the test is strong, but he doesn’t act harshly.

Although he is not very willing to see the presence of Koyl and Rojas, Oliva understands that relying on himself to restrain the unpredictable Aislin is unlikely.

Even though he temporarily pulled Aislin a bit using some of the well-preserved yet potentially centuries-old strange object aroma from Gilbert, it only gave Aislin a glimmer of hope, not that she could resist the true owner of the soul.

He and Ruth are pleased only that Aislin might have a chance, even if a fragment of her soul enters the Styx after everything ends, not that Aislin can play a major role in the current affair.

In other words, Aislin’s greatest contribution might be to keep her original soul’s owner from being too unscrupulous... although the girl’s hints were subtle, Oliva still saw through them.

Furthermore, this allowed Oliva to understand a few things: Although Aislin’s memories were mostly intact, they were still fragmented, with mundane details overlooked.

Especially, memories from before Aislin became a mage, which she herself has already forgotten in the depths of her mental sea.

Who knows how many efforts she made later, how cautiously she probed, before daring to reveal a trace.

However, this also proves one thing, that Aislin, in the small part of the soul she occupies, can block out the other’s observations.

Therefore, Aislin wouldn’t be discovered while she was making these small moves.

But knowing all this, Oliva, especially knowing how strong the true soul of ’Aislin’ is, he’s actually a bit unclear how to respond.

If he still uses the past method, it definitely won’t work.

Oliva knows, the tasks Ruth assigned him aren’t all suitable for Aislin to know... yet he finds it difficult to use some methods to expose a few parts while disguising others before Aislin.

He couldn’t believe himself to never say a wrong word.

So, Oliva actually has some expectations for Koyl and Rojas.

The test must undoubtedly continue, but even if they can’t pass those tests, he hopes they can hold on until another capable and ambitious person appears.

Then, he quickly discovered Rojas was aiming for the resources.

This is quite normal, yet unusual.

After all, Ruth’s students are the ones with the best and most equitable resources in the Tower of Dark Enigma.

There’s no need to fight for even the most basic resources required for mages’ current stage of practice like Nicholson and Kamente Tower’s students.

If there really was a shortage, no matter how troublesome Aislin is, their faction wouldn’t be this quiet.

Only, those capable and qualified people choose cultivation over wasting time with Aislin.

Attempting to take that woman down, to make Ruth, who has always favored her, completely give up on her, requires too much effort... crucially, the potential gains and the costs might be quite similar.

Everyone’s time is precious; there’s no need for it.

Oliva couldn’t understand Rojas’s choice... without Gilbert and Hilbert’s meticulous thoughts, he couldn’t understand how a top-level Seventh Circle Mage was willing to stand on the edge of the battlefield for student safety and future.

Yet, he could tell from Ruth and the other two’s performance that this matter wasn’t a bad thing.

Anyway, works concerning resources are tedious and troublesome, not the type he likes.

Rojas has many female students, undoubtedly better at such meticulous tasks, so Oliva simply bypassed Rojas.

His focus now is entirely on Koyl: this young man is rather slippery, yet not someone without a bottom line.

In the beginning, of the dozen or so mages wanting to compete with him for this position, they haven’t stopped playing dirty tricks.

Although Koyl retaliated with a bit of added code, if the other wasn’t aiming for his life, he wouldn’t strike hard.

Thus, while some were seriously injured, at least no one died.

Facing Oliva’s various tests, this youngster managed to respond fairly well.

It’s just, he’s a bit too good.

Oliva quite appreciates it, but sometimes it makes him somewhat displeased.

Especially, recently, Koyl even managed to counter him while completing his tests!

Oliva, truly, was a bit upset.

-----------------

’Aislin’ of course didn’t hold back either.

Whether it was Aislin’s persona or her own Glaysia character, one who fears the world isn’t chaotic enough and hates being without a sense of presence, she wouldn’t allow the two young ones to step over her to ascend.

However, Rojas, ’Aislin’ just visited her Magic Tower once, so he doesn’t want to cause her trouble.

Rojas, he chooses and teaches young girls so well!

So many beauties... a splendid display of colors indeed.

’Aislin’ can’t act against these young beauties before Rojas’s mentorship poses a threat to her.

She even hopes that after everything is over, Rojas will take these beautiful girls and leave with her... if she survives in Glaysia’s hands, she also wants to have a palace of her own.

Even if Rojas can’t, at least leave her a few beauties.

’Aislin’ is quite sensitive to the changes in human emotions, she can feel the admiration those young girls have for Rojas.

So, as long as she wants a good outcome, then at least on the surface, anything that happens to Rojas cannot be related to her.

So, ’Aislin’ at most won’t care about Rojas’s safety, but she won’t proactively do anything to a timid and cowardly Seventh Circle Female Mage who just wants some resources.

Her eyes eventually also turned to Koyl, who was playing back and forth with Oliva.

Fortunately, the commotion at the Sia Tower still attracted most of ’Aislin’s attention, so Koyl did not face a double attack.

But, just occasionally facing ’Aislin’s two mysterious flying arrows was enough to put Koyl in a difficult position.

After all, that lady has never felt there was anything wrong with using the power of the Sia White Robe against her junior mage.

She naturally believes the white robe is her slave, and her tone in giving orders to Rosero of the Ninth Ring is less polite than when speaking to Koyl.

-----------------

It goes without saying about Koyl, after all, all the spirit and vigor of those two are reflected on him.

And then, he still has to mess with those few oblivious colleagues in the Seventh Rings within the limits allowed by Ruth, even when he’s seeing stars and burning with rage.

After so long, Koyl has finally understood why he could stand out among so many Seventh Circle Mages wanting to seize power... after all, there are those whose age is several times his and whose strength could put two of him in place.

Indeed, success and failure are both linked to Gilbert.

Success because his intersection with Gilbert caught Ruth’s attention.

Failure because, in Ruth’s mind, his cherished Gilbert is a person with strong principles, so his recognition of Koyl means Koyl would naturally not be someone as unforgivable as his beloved Aislin.

So, what Aislin wants to do, Koyl is forced to do.

He is not really that vicious, but knowing that the route has been pre-designed for him does make Koyl a bit displeased.

However, Koyl has always been a very realistic person, always focusing more on what he gains.

He never gets benefits and complains at the same time.

Therefore, despite his days being busy and painful, they are bearable... when it’s truly unbearable, he goes to vent to his destined benefactor and villain Gilbert.

Although Gilbert’s words are cutting and venomous, he won’t throw him out.

-----------------

Rojas, however, lived in a bit of bewilderment and disarray.

Having survived the initial period being troubled in turns by Oliva and Aislin... even that Aislin personally visited her Magic Tower, scrutinizing them with a strange and eerie gaze, her days seemingly suddenly became smoother.

Although when distributing mage resources, some high-level mages who look down on her still make sarcastic comments, nitpicking, but after she shows a tough attitude, things are manageable.

Ultimately, no matter how bad their attitude is, as long as the items meet standards, they dare not cause a big scene... Ruth would absolutely not tolerate them messing with the resources he painstakingly seized.

Handling trivial troubles aimed at people is quite easy for Rojas, who mingles in a woman’s crowd and has lived long enough.

Though sometimes, it is inevitable to lament that when men play the little dirty tricks they always despise in women, they are actually pretty keen on perfection.

-----------------

Compared to Ruth’s side, where there are some ripples but thanks to a resilient Seventh Circle Mage bravely bearing all the firepower, the days are relatively peaceful; Nicholson’s side, however, is stormy, with Level Thirteen typhoon turmoil constantly drifting back and forth, never leaving.

Even Hilbert, who sits in the Magic Tower, somewhat dulled to external news, heard quite a few things from the visiting Koyl.

However, in this world, an admirable love story is the kind where Aislin’s type actually counts... at least there’s some tangled desire touched by ’love.’

So, even though it involves many stories of men and women, those are due to various exchanges of interests, using bodies or the resultant children as stamp marks for the contract; despite desires overflowing, it doesn’t leave too much room for thought.

Therefore, Hill still listened with great interest.
