Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Hilbert thought he should act more from Gilbert’s perspective during this time.

For example, today proved how correct his previous decision was.

People shouldn’t be lazy.

Moreover, his sense of tension appeared suddenly, the kind that makes all the hairs stand on end, and it occurred just in that moment.

It’s very possible that Asmodeus was also surprised by Delphus’s utterly humiliating attack.

If he was a bystander, even if Delphus was counterattacked and directly killed, there wouldn’t be such an imperceptible aura suddenly appearing.

That aura was really very faint, Hilbert estimated that even Glaysia would have a hard time noticing it.

It’s only natural children like him, who are sensitive to evil forces, who wouldn’t let it go unnoticed.

Asmodeus probably got a shock too.

That implies he might have only arrived in this world in recent days, and the person he’s possessing is in Delphus’s faction, enduring this embarrassing slap together.

The nature of the Lord of Hell is to hate unexpected attacks.

Hilbert always remembered some of his legends: when startled, he didn’t care if the person scaring him had real lethal power, Asmodeus’s first reaction was always to flee.

Then he would turn back to investigate who had scared him.

Sometimes, he’s really like that tiger from the fable of the donkey of Guizhou.

Although he devoured its flesh in the end, he would never take risks lightly without understanding what the opponent was.

But in the multiverse, the existence of which he is ’unaware’ is very rare.

If you really dare to be that donkey, the outcome is to feed the tiger on the spot.

But this doesn’t mean his nature will change.

So, in encountering such an incredible event, such an aura was revealed.

Anyway, the target of this person is not him for the time being... Since Asmodeus wants to manipulate the Styx, making the Styx have to act as an intermediary for some matter, he won’t remain in this world for long.

For such an existence as the Styx, only a ’heartless’ scheme could succeed.

To achieve this natural ’heartlessness’, the Lord of Hell must go to great lengths, using countless intentional little actions to create an accidental opportunity.

But his existence itself is one of intentional plotting.

Only by making countless preparations and then appearing unexpectedly can this conclusion be reached.

The Lord of Hell’s aura isn’t that easy to hide... even Hilbert could unexpectedly discover it, let alone the Styx.

The only one Asmodeus might deceive is probably his own daughter.

Hilbert glanced distantly towards the front left of the Magic Tower... ’Aislin’ he didn’t know what she was up to, he didn’t believe this failed sneak attack by Delphus could make the heartless Princess of Hell feel much nostalgia, why hasn’t she come over yet?

Could it be... she’s thinking of waiting until his Magic Tower is in ruins before coming out?

But how much trouble could that add to him?

She wouldn’t end him, yet each time she seemed eager to cause a little trouble, what’s wrong with ’Aislin’?

-----------------

’Aislin’, however, wasn’t planning to play that pulling and pushing game with Gilbert where she was happy when he was bad but wouldn’t let him die.

She just discovered some dark figures lurking in the shadows, trying to capitalize on the situation.

When the sandpiper and the clam fight, the fisherman profits.

Even though ’Aislin’ doesn’t know this phrase, she certainly understands such maneuvers.

After all, Gilbert could still hold his own... honestly, upon discovering that Delphus’s crazy strike resulted only in this laughable conclusion, ’Aislin’ almost doubted her eyes.

Especially when Delphus, so full of himself, with his high-raised long nose, suddenly became distorted, ’Aislin’ had to turn and look at Rosero to soothe her shaken heart.

Though Gilbert’s Puppet Bird indeed diverted a lot of energy, the long-standing master of the Magic Tower ’Aislin’ knew very well that the majority of the force from Delphus’s strike transformed into Elemental Pool energy.

The energy taken by the Puppet Bird must only be the surplus.

Gilbert’s array for energy conversion originally came from the Tower of Dark Enigma.

The energy loop balance of the three towers back then used this model.

’Aislin’ could even understand why, in that time, the principal archmages of the Tower of Dark Enigma were completely destroyed, due to the curse spreading through bloodline and spiritual connections... to break the loop formed by those three towers, it would require a force far beyond Legendary level.

And in this timeframe, such power should not, nor could, exist in this world.

Even though they themselves cloaked this paper, they can break it themselves, but, it’s not like there aren’t other ways, just that they can’t be used openly.

So, even though the Tower of Dark Enigma met with misfortune, it could still continue being upheld by Ruth.

Unlike the Defense Tower, which was seen as the prominent target, even its bones were shattered.

Gilbert, being a favorite student of Ruth, naturally learned the junior blueprints of such a Magic Tower.

Furthermore, he could even use his talents to transform these blueprints into this current form... that Puppet Falcon, and those small-sized crows and finches, if blessed by Wind Elemental energy a few more times, could even naturally advance!

Though Aislin couldn’t do it, it didn’t mean she couldn’t understand it.

This time, she truly felt a little bit of jealousy arise... Aislin actually knew deep down, her clone was surely malfunctioning.

Although she herself benefited, the thought alone of such a simple wicked alchemy being messed up by Glaysia... with the same inevitable talent as hers—Aislin found her emotions rather complicated.

Moreover, she knew even more clearly that even if messed up, Glaysia wouldn’t know how she managed to botch it during her review.

She always considered herself to be intuitive and thus never bothered remembering the production process of her potions.

Each time being different from the last.

Previously, Glaysia didn’t find anything wrong with this... yet Aislin could clearly sense the absurdity.

But as soon as she thought there was something absurd... Glaysia never thought she was wrong. If her methods didn’t conform to so-called common sense, then the entire world was wrong.

She, Aislin, was obviously the one having issues.

But what could Aislin do?

She could only ignore those little secrets of Aislin and would certainly not seek discomfort by approaching her Master Ruth.

One should always leave some room for retreat.

”Rosero, Gilbert, how much longer can you hold on?” She turned to ask the male mage who had been particularly silent after that attack.

Aislin actually somewhat understood the ideas of the high-ups in Sia Tower, they constantly suspected Gilbert’s identity.

Although many things could be explained by luck and chance, in the devil’s world, the word luck inherently doesn’t exist, so they only believed everything is a meticulously calculated result.

If they couldn’t see through it, it was merely because their capability wasn’t enough, and they’d never attribute everything to luck.

Of course, if after repeated verification, they confirmed that person indeed had no issues, they’d then turn their gaze towards higher places... A mortal’s luck might sometimes just be a casual gesture of some higher existence.

Devils often accumulate a massive workload due to this disbelief, yet since they have ample time, wasting time is of no concern... As for watching their schemed humans approach their lifespan’s limit due to unease, it’s no big deal, humans still have their descendants!

Many unfortunate souls feel innocent when targeted by devils, but when they trace back, they understand devils never notice someone by accident.

Gilbert is just such a case.

His luck could almost be considered the most unbelievable sort.

Few people cared about the Tower of Dark Enigma, as they weren’t aware of what the spiritual power potion flowing from Sia Tower truly was.

Unless Gilbert’s luck was truly good enough that he accidentally purchased one of the two bottles Glaysia crafted and mixed in.

Moreover, those two potions seemed utterly inferior in quality: full of impurities... If it weren’t for the person placing them in the sale window being Glaysia, the Archmage in charge of the caravan almost certainly would’ve casually discarded them.

But Aislin faintly recalled, the spiritual power potion Gilbert bought seemed to have some issues.

Otherwise, he would’ve consumed it long ago, rather than waiting until his body was on the verge of collapse to make his last desperate attempt before dying.

That was fortunate that the Hainarson Family had another mage appear, only then did he become resolved!

But the devils just wouldn’t admit that the soul strength potions they crafted with great care, albeit with many aftereffects, turned out to be less useful than Glaysia’s compound brewed from stacking a massive amount of materials.

The key point is, Gilbert indeed managed to purchase a soul strength potion with positive effects, yet it was delivered right to him.

So how could they say there’s no such thing as luck in this world?

Aislin quite believed in Gilbert’s luck, whenever distributing materials, that guy would just casually grab what’s most suitable for him.

Not the best, but the most fitting.

Just like the so-called spiritual power potion.

Aislin still remembered when Gilbert sneaked off to buy it, he wasn’t even at Fifth Circle.

Besides, the spiritual power potion’s effects were notoriously poor, he was merely looking for a placebo for himself.

Then, crafted by Glaysia herself, an alarming amount of impurities yet repelled others... which was akin to uncountable cotton strands floating within what should have been a transparent potion... so buying the moderately priced bottle made sense.

After all, that guy had spent all he had just for that bit of money.
