Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Hill quickly shook his head, dispelling that incredible association.

However, he was well aware that sometimes his flash of intuition had a very high possibility of being correct.

But Hill was always a cautious person and never arranged his life according to ’possibilities’.

He knew very well that his ’possibilities’ could indeed lead him to the most accurate answer, but Hill would only glance down that path, seeking more complete evidence and clues, and would never bypass the process straight to the end.

Hill knew that his character wasn’t very steady, and also somewhat spoiled and prone to laziness. Once he took a shortcut, it would be difficult to return to the right path.

Even if his shortcuts were ninety-nine point ninety-nine percent free from repercussions, the remaining tiny fraction would be enough to lead him to ruin.

He acknowledged his nature, so he always kept the phrase, ’luck is a double-edged sword’, close to heart and continuously treated it as the guiding principle of his life.

Though this made many people think Hill seemed somewhat foolish, just like in Toril, where he indeed lost out on many benefits due to being overly cautious, but at least, he didn’t become another Tyr.

That was sufficient.

Only the knowledge he learned was the most important wealth; as for other things, be it divine artifacts or power, Hill could create them with his own hands.

Therefore, every time he sensed some possible clue, he would never directly head to the significant area indicated by the clue but instead walk along the path leading up to that area.

Moreover, in life, not finding the wrong path or walking down the wrong road is already the greatest luck a person can bear, so why not enjoy the scenery along the way instead of rushing to the end?

Whose life would it be for, living like that?

Hill, of course, knew that perhaps he was overthinking things, considering his luck was indeed innate... a natural gift bestowed by his elders at birth.

Just like during those moments in Toril, even if he wasn’t so careful, with his luck, coupled with Toril being a very powerful Natural Divine System world, he was almost certainly not calculated by AO.

The truly fortunate child can naturally escape all conspiracies and calculations.

Yet, he preferred to live cautiously and didn’t want to be someone who could only rely on luck to survive.

If, in previous worlds, it merely affirmed that this lifestyle suited him, then in the devil-plagued world before him, Hill became even more certain of the correctness of his approach.

Most Silvermoon Goddesses in various worlds... naturally born ones, not the kind from the Greek Gods system that are canonized... belong to the Chaos System, but they can live unrestrainedly because they enjoy the world’s favor and preference, allowing them to choose the most suitable path based purely on intuition.

Even if there are twists along the way, the result is inevitably good.

But this reliance on fortunate intuition and fate cannot affect beings of the rank of the Lord of Hell.

Of course, if a world’s level reaches that of Toril, naturally, we can talk a bit.

However, Toril World, within the entire Multiverse, is the only such magnificent existence.

In contrast, a truly new world, at best, might be like Teraxil, while the world at hand is more typical of the kind of newly appearing universe.

Nevertheless, the early emergence of humans here, which clearly does not fit the pattern, must be because someone opted for an unconventional shortcut.

Certainly, if everything went smoothly, when this world converges with other universes, at worst, it could become an intermediate world... with a bit of luck, perhaps even reaching the edge of greatness.

Lacking the foundation of Teraxil, yet allowing the Main God to possess Intermediate Divine Power is indeed a positive thing.

However, beautiful dreams inevitably come with corresponding trials.

Clearly, they didn’t endure.

No matter if it was the Moon Goddess who took this risk or not, they must have trusted the humans that believed in them deeply to allow the development of Mage forces.

Otherwise, truly powerful deities generally have a poor impression of mages.

Indeed, Main Gods with sufficient control, such as Teraxil’s God of Nobility type of existence, would vigorously restrict the development of mages.

Although Hill didn’t want to admit it, his internal struggles were quite skillful.

Even sneaky fellow Draculus couldn’t ensure mages held real power in the kingdoms Hill controlled... especially amid a Magical Beast disaster.

Hill actually believed the reason this world has reached this point is likely due to that Goddess of the Silvermoon... he has never seen any existence softer than the Silvermoon Deity System.

Once you earn their trust, they might even blind themselves to slight deviations from reality.

The Teraxil one was considered the most clear-headed with the strongest control.

Think about Celene, whose subordinates even stole the moon from her, and you can understand how incredibly unimaginable things they can do.

Furthermore, if that’s the premise, it adds a bit of plausibility to some oddities Hill found in this world.

Usually, deities like Silvermoon would not only grace a few people with love.

As long as believers were devout enough, they would receive her protection.

This probably explains why the concept of nations never emerged even though nobles existed for many years in this world.

Otherwise, as long as past history existed, the idea of despotism would naturally resurface... humanity loves to look for rules from history, even failures are seen as rules when it comes to power.

However, under the nurturing of such a compassionate goddess, who would suppress whom?

Mages are no exception.

No matter how powerful a mage is, they can merely repel a deity’s assault but cannot invade any Divine Kingdom to wreak havoc.

Yet, mages can suppress some equal-level existence with a deity’s help.

However, the frightening thing is, the deity who was shielding him today might suddenly, due to something the opponent did, embrace the opponent under their wings too.

Just when he could turn the opponent’s resources, everything into his own... blink, the opponent becomes a colleague!

Upon thinking this, Hill suddenly could understand a bit why someone, living well, would conjure such evil sacrifices to summon the Lord of Hell.

Human ambition is uncontrollable.

Every unfinished attempt only fills one’s burning ambition with more and more desire.

Nobles, even Mage Nobility, once they appear on the scene must be restrained with a certain order and rules... without curbing their ambition yet often leaving them half-finished...

Hill sharply shook his head, lightly tapped his forehead: he must not think about it anymore.

What’s most important now is finding the clues, not guessing which foolish deity got tangled up in such idiotic matters.

What if this world has both a steady Moon Goddess and a lively Sun God?

Is it Lansendel or the Lord of Dawn!

Ah, no, should mention deities related to light, also those pesky folks like Lansendel!

Hill dared not jump to conclusions.

Anyways, amidst such chaotic mess, Hill felt that sooner or later he’d uncover the truth, there was no need to rush.

Besides, it’s not him who’s anxious.

Aislin sat quietly on the sofa, contemplating.

Lately, she’s been increasingly curious about her identity.

After all, she absolutely didn’t believe she was merely a clawed mask.

Yet she knew, in Aislin’s eyes, that’s what she was.

Or rather, in Glaysia’s eyes, who concocted her existence, that’s what she was.

Though, since the soul’s control resided with another soul, she could only glimpse a bit of related memories... yet she knew the name.

But, the name wasn’t important, identity was.

Aislin held too many secret desires, but she had no idea where to start.

Years of reckless behavior left her unsure of how to carefully and slightly explore these obscure corners without drawing attention.

She didn’t even start learning how to control her emotions until recently... still learning, not solid yet.

Previously, if she found out Gilbert’s words were hints secretly communicating with Ruth, Aislin would be extremely angry.

Now, she can accept this reality.

Like now, she was drawing people’s attention alone in the hall, letting Ruth handle private matters in a specific room, something she couldn’t have done before.

She should have been the one in that room.

How come she’s ended up as the guard with worse luck?

Poured herself a cup of Moonlight Rose Wine obtained from Gilbert, Aislin raised it to the Silvermoon outside, ”Cheers~ Sia~

Have Rosero come by tomorrow ~ I have something for him.”

Aislin was truly venting her helpless fury.

However, come dawn the next day, when Rosero indeed showed up outside Ruth’s Main Tower, she couldn’t help but question life a bit.

Still, she could only harbor her bewilderment, falling into a sleeping state.
