Surviving The Fourth Calamity

No one cared about Delphus’s frustration.

Except for the female mage watching coldly from the sidelines, the others, although their minds were racing, still stood by his side to discuss what methods they could use to continue the attack.

Although Gilbert Hainarson’s thought process caught everyone off guard, at least this time, they had a focal point to concentrate their firepower.

The height of the two floors of the Magic Tower reached 15 meters, and the hollow section within the ring could perfectly amplify their strike.

This time, they estimated that they will need to exert extra effort.

Relying solely on Delphus’s Magic Crossbow as they did earlier definitely won’t work... Though everyone is watching this attack, they cannot operate in broad daylight.

When the sun rises, regardless of their unwillingness, they have no choice but to abandon the effort.

However, for Delphus, this was his only chance.

After all, the Tower of Dark Enigma was bound to protest against the Sia Archmage.

That figure might feign ignorance this time, but she certainly wouldn’t allow Delphus to again treat her as a fool.

Unless the group from the Tower of Dark Enigma really turned into internal conflict... At that time, what happens to a Ninth Ring Mage and his students would no longer be her concern.

But in Sia Tower then, could Delphus still possess any status?

Delphus actually understood well that the reason he could act so recklessly was because the higher-ups of Sia Tower needed someone like him to stand out.

He and the people from the Tower of Dark Enigma were essentially ornamental displays on stage.

Once no one wanted to look anymore, naturally they’d be thrown back into storage.

But by then, if Delphus couldn’t make himself strong enough to retreat everyone, his fate would surely be inevitable...

It’s not like he didn’t know how many people he had offended!

But at that time, he was certain he could rely on those things in the Defense Tower to reach the end, and attain the highest position.

If it weren’t for Hainarson.

Delphus absolutely would not give up this attack... Especially after discovering the influence of Gilbert Hainarson’s bloodline on these strange objects.

He knew even more clearly that those observing today’s battle definitely understood the real reason why he insisted on Gilbert’s death.

If he didn’t achieve complete success this time, then the future would become even more unlikely.

His enemies would absolutely ensure that the Shield, directly countering his killing moves, would not disappear!

Only today, he must succeed.

Delphus gripped his hand tightly and finally pulled out a glittering diamond from his ring.

Countless facets of the diamond gleamed brightly under the moonlight.

The group of Eighth Ring Mages behind him couldn’t help but cover their eyes... Even though it was merely the moonlight’s reflection, it made them feel dizzy.

”What is this?” Cardenas asked in a strange tone, ”Why do I feel a bit perplexed?”

”Heh~ This is the top-secret of the Defense Tower.” Delphus sneered, ”Developed to counter the top force of Sia Tower, the strongest strange object.

I only managed to obtain one of them.

The others all exploded into fragments along with the Defense Tower.

Including the sole Archmage capable of crafting such strange objects, Hainarson, tch!

There’s no choice. The lethal strange objects I possess basically originate from this person, and in the end, they’ll be just like the Giant Crossbow... Instead of letting several items fail to exhibit killing power, it’s better to simply use this conceptual thing.

Heh~

Though I don’t know the actual principle of such strange objects... It’s just temporarily sacrificing my power.

As long as they are put away, my power will eventually return.”

Hearing his somewhat panicked and self-persuading nonsense, the mages realized that Delphus’s energy had evidently diminished... Now he appeared no different from an Eighth Ring Mage.

So, was Delphus warning them that this degradation was temporary?

However, what exactly was this strange object from the Defense Tower?

Seeing these few individuals stunned atop the tower like mantises... The Black-robed Archmages, midway through their rush, had to find a place to hide again.

But due to their quick speed, they were actually only half a cloud away from the gray Magic Tower.

Despite some awkwardness, and the female mage constantly looking up, probably having noticed their commotion.

But since she was feigning ignorance anyway, the few Black-robed Archmages hoping to take advantage stealthily pretended not to have been exposed.

They also knew that Rosero and ’Aislin’ were definitely behind them, ready to strike at any moment.

Yet their aim was solely Delphus’s storage ring; once acquired, they would flee, not caring if they’d offend Rosero by it.

Either way, the big share still belonged to Rosero, unless he truly couldn’t suppress Delphus... But if he were that incompetent, he would be less capable of affecting them.

They were all Dukes of Demons, who feared whom!

Glaysia also couldn’t possibly back her male pet for such a trivial matter.

Prepared with various mental defenses, the few were actually somewhat wary... After all, things that Fengo disagreed with typically had a mysterious nature.

If not for their apparent poverty over the years: the desire scent on gold coins would dissipate over time.

Otherwise, why would the Devils always set traps with treasure across various worlds?

Playing a grand game of treasure, finally returning to their embrace on the mountain of Gold Coins, naturally filled with energy that helps them grow.

However, in this damned world, the longer the Devils stay, the poorer they become.

The treasure game is worthless to those poor souls who only wish to eat their fill.

And if the Mages of the Magic Tower were really so easily swindled... it’s probably not that easy to become a Mage.

Even the Nobles have rarely fallen for such tricks anymore.

A world lacking resources, devoid of civilization, and without unified order is truly worthless.

However, at this moment, the Black-robed Archmages who were somewhat anxious suddenly exchanged glances, using their eyes to signal each other, and finally all reached out to add a layer of soundproof barrier... Although they are colleagues earning extra income together, nobody trusts anyone even in this situation. Even if it means wasting energy, each must add their own Shield.

Then, after each carefully checked once more, they put their heads together to discuss:

’What the heck is that?’

”Can’t you understand?”

”It’s so obvious, why are you pretending?”

”But... how could that thing appear here?”

”Is that outsider from the Defense Tower actually TMD Chaos? Wasn’t it said to be a Magical System creature?”

”Even Elf can be Chaos! Aren’t there Mages too?”

”Is that the same thing?”

”What are you arguing about? Are we still proceeding?”

”Proceed with the Devil! A poor Devil is better than a dead Devil!”

-----------------

”Uh...” ’Aislin’ slightly opened her mouth, asking in surprise, ”You’re so good to Delphus,

even letting him hold the Gem of Chaos?”

”No, I didn’t know he had that thing!” Rosero blinked rapidly, ”Besides, it was Fengo’s subordinates who handled the Defense Tower.

What he’s doing, I don’t know!”

’Aislin’ had no reaction to Rosero’s swift and decisive shirking of responsibility. Devils who aren’t even good at this would have long returned to being Worms.

What she truly couldn’t believe was how Fengo could be kept in the dark?

No, even a figure like Delphus could be stuffed into one’s own bag, Fengo must be pretending to be clueless, not truly clueless.

So, why pretend?

Uh... the only thing that could make Fengo pretend to be clueless about Chaos creatures is Asmodeus’s orders.

Does it have anything to do with Glaysia?

Or does it have something to do with herself, ’Aislin’...

”When should we take action?” Rosero suddenly asked, ”It’s estimated Fengo’s subordinates will no longer act.”

Although the outsider from the Defense Tower initially brought in was more likely to be an Elf Sequence... if it was a Demon, the Magic Tower would certainly be overturned.

The first reaction of a High-level Demon encountering a Mage from the Order Faction is never to chat with them, but to start a war directly.

Especially since the Defense Tower clearly leans towards Neutral Order.

To be honest, Rosero really admires that group of Mages who can maintain a high standard even in such a world.

Though there are some good people in the Tower of Dark Enigma, overall it still leans toward the Evil Faction.

Including Ruth’s students.

Otherwise, ’Aislin’ couldn’t have become Ruth’s chief student.

She is very obviously part of the Evil Faction.

Of course, in this world, few bother to distinguish factions, after all, most good people are dead.

But in a world that appears to Demons, it’s plainly Devil.

They definitely wouldn’t tolerate it, inevitably launching a direct war... Dying at the hands of Mages, they could return to the Bottomless Abyss: such Demons venturing out would have prepared Resurrection rituals long ago.

If caught by Devils, they would surely be doomed.

But, while Rosero can still consider these matters, Fengo’s subordinates absolutely dare not.

Years ago, when Fengo took charge of the intelligence agency, everyone with connections to the Invincible Abyss was completely wiped out.

’Maybe vaguely related’ past common practice had no chance of survival even then, not even for the Duke of Demons.

If Hell has faced two major purges due to Asmodeus’s vigilance, then Fengo’s intelligence agency conducts a self-cleansing every millennium.

The thoroughness of such cleansings is even scarier than being constantly watched by a mad dog.

Therefore, while Fengo’s subordinates might be greedy in many things, they absolutely dare not touch anything related to the Bottomless Abyss.

Without certainty about the origin of that Gem of Chaos from the Defense Tower, these Black Robes certainly won’t act again.

That would surely be suicidal.

”Let Delphus give it a try,” ’Aislin’ frowned, ”I need to know the quality of this Gem of Chaos.”
