Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Neither Hilbert nor Aislin intended to continue this topic.

Although Aislin wasn’t sure how much Gilbert actually knew, she had some idea.

She wasn’t dressing this way just to disgust Rosero.

Instead, it was to disgust everyone.

Especially that damned so-called soul that constantly defamed her taste.

Weren’t they hoping to let the outside world think Aislin was just a controlled Aislin?

In that case, this kind of impactful image really fits her past personality.

It’s just that back then, her somewhat overly personal tastes would be mocked by the likes of Oliva and Gilbert, and even Ruth would offer a gentle reminder, but now, no one would bring it up at all.

Oliva wouldn’t dare to look at her... even if he had to interact with her, that guy would make a quick escape.

Aislin understood Oliva’s thoughts; it wasn’t that he didn’t want to communicate with her, but that he didn’t dare.

Oliva knew his flaw of being unable to hold his temper, fearing he might expose something he shouldn’t in front of the soul behind her eyes.

Although such behavior also gave ’Aislin’ some feeling, she clearly knew that Oliva being on guard against her was the normal reaction.

Aislin had long noticed that her soul had a very rigid understanding of people.

Thinking Oliva is a fool, it wouldn’t closely observe his every move.

While this perception was more beneficial to Aislin, it confused her: did she and ’Aislin’ really come from the same soul?

Her past was indeed spectacular, but Aislin only ever stumbled when it came to those interests... and even when things went disastrously wrong, it was only the half of the car with the men that was destroyed.

Moreover, when she was serious about her work, she was never this rough and rigid.

Aislin felt she was actually a very sensitive person, otherwise, she wouldn’t have gone so many years without ever truly crossing Ruth’s bottom line.

It was just that she was inherently arrogant and wouldn’t consider the feelings of those she looked down upon... like her interactions with Gilbert, wasn’t it always kept by her on the edge of conflict?

She was very precise in grasping Gilbert’s limit of tolerance.

But Aislin could feel that the ’Aislin’ didn’t have this ability.

Aislin couldn’t help but ponder this difference: humans indeed take different directions due to different growth environments.

But can the most basic nature change?

Like, how could a person who loved bright colors so much... be attracted to that so-called pure white?

Could the environment really make someone blind?

Hilbert gently closed the window and silently sat down on the distant sofa.

”Weren’t you looking for me for something?” Aislin said, crossing her legs with a smile on her face, ”Sitting so far away, how do I know who you’re speaking to?”

”You can consider it as me talking to myself,” Hilbert calmly replied, ”Or, take off your outer robe.

Though it’s still quite dazzling, at least it’s bearable to look at.”

”Eh?” Aislin lifted her head with interest, ”I really didn’t expect there’d be a day you wanted to see me undress?

What happened?

Are you about to die?”

”Could you act normal?” Hilbert swiftly activated the defense core of the Magic Tower.

Aislin waved her hand, delivering the snack box she had flaunted all along the way to Hilbert: ”It’s a recipe from my memory, made by the household puppet teacher, the taste is pretty good, brought it for you to try.”

Hilbert frowned momentarily, but still opened it.

Inside the snack box were remnants of cakes that had been shaken into a mess, barely recognizable.

”Even if it’s an excuse that no one would believe, you’ve done it, would it kill you to do it properly?” Hilbert earnestly asked.

”The thought of it being for you made my hands naturally wave around!” Aislin replied candidly, ”Bringing something even dogs wouldn’t eat to you instantly brightens my mood.”

Hilbert helplessly destroyed those things directly: ”Don’t waste food.”

”Really?” Aislin looked at him curiously, ”You wouldn’t tell me to think about those outside who can’t even get black taro, would you?

How did you suddenly become a saint?”

Hilbert couldn’t help rolling his eyes at her: ”What kind of nonsense have you been influenced by?

Normally, which high-level Mage would think of the life of mundane people while chatting?”

”Hmm...” Aislin lethargically reclined back, ”Well, I have received quite a bit of influence.”

Hilbert furrowed his brow: ”Just forget it then!”

”I know.” Aislin waved her hand, ”It wasn’t anything important anyway, I get it.”

Hilbert understood what her two ”knows” represented: one was her knowledge that those things weren’t good.

The other was that she realized that even though she was on guard, she had been partially influenced, and would be more cautious in the future.

Though this was difficult, Aislin, who lived day by day, didn’t care even if she couldn’t manage it.

Aislin quickly realized why Gilbert wanted her to cherish food: ”Is the food ratio you receive here at Sia Tower, not that high?”

”Barely enough for myself,” Hilbert nodded, ”Russell and Carpenter receive theirs annually, equivalent to half a month’s ration for me.”

”I get it.” Aislin pursed her lips, ”Probably, only teacher’s place is unrestricted.

Otherwise, why don’t you stay at the Main Tower?”

”For just a bit of food?” Hilbert looked at her in surprise, as if thinking she must be crazy.

Aislin snorted disdainfully: ”Good food makes people happy. How could a cultivation fanatic like you understand that?

However, the resources of a Ninth Ring Mage are indeed extraordinary.”

Hilbert tilted his head: ”In the Sia Tower, the resources here are truly abundant.

No wonder Mage Pet would say that the resources Delphus has are enough for more than a dozen of me to advance to the Ninth Ring.”

”Oh?” Aislin looked at him with interest, ”Is he that wealthy?

Rosero doesn’t seem to be that rich!”

”Delphus seems to be a very frugal person who only likes to use other people’s resources.” Hilbert said with a cheerful smile.

”Pet knows him well!” Aislin sat up, resting her chin on her hand and leaning on the desk, looking puzzled, ”Isn’t it said that Delphus is a bit ugly?”

”I guess so?” Hilbert responded with a smile, ”Otherwise, a Mage Pet who is so concerned about resources wouldn’t have so decisively rejected Delphus’s proposal.”

”A fly can always smell the scent.” Aislin blinked, ”Heh~ don’t mind them.

By the way, Rosero told me that in a few days he’ll be sending me some good stuff.

Where’s your trade catalog?

Let me take a look.”

Hilbert raised his chin: ”It’s right there by your hand, feel free to look.”

Aislin flipped through the pile of documents on the desk and pulled out the thick catalog from the bottom.

As she opened it, she asked casually, ”Where do you get so many things to trade?

Oh... is this mint wine?

Why not get me a glass?

Stingy man.

No wonder Lady Pet is so dissatisfied with you.”

Hilbert smiled lightly: ”To Mage Pet, a fair trade is seen as her loss.

Or rather, not letting me incur a loss is her greatest kindness.

Hehe~

Unfortunately, I’d rather not trade with others than to see those who get a good deal and still act innocent, taking the biggest advantage and claiming it’s for my own good.”

He took out a crystal bottle from his ring... the translucent bottle contained a light pink liquid that seemed to shimmer: ”Mint wine is a specialty of Hainarson, and even of most Magic Towers, because mint is easy to cultivate in Magic Gardens.

Yet in the Sia Tower, there’s mint growing right in the large garden’s lawn.

Their Magic Garden indeed can support shrubs.

If not, where would you get so many snack ingredients?

This is wine brewed from rose petals.

You know this flower, right?

In the Neutral Faction’s large garden, the pavilion is covered with vines of these small pink flowers.

I purchased some and had Carpenter brew rose wine, want to try it?”

Aislin tilted her head and looked at him: ”Is it good?”

”Carpenter seems to like it a lot.” Hilbert said noncommittally.

”Then I’ll try it.” Aislin gestured for him to come over.

The beautiful light pink liquid gently flowed into the wine glass. Aislin lowered her head and took a slight sniff: ”It seems to have a hint of moonlight in its scent.”

”I asked Mage Pet.” Hilbert slightly narrowed his eyes, ”She said this type of flower is called Moonlight Rose, and over there, they also have red, dark red, and white ones.

But only the pink ones can be eaten.

Some female mages even keep bees specifically for the nectar of Moonlight Roses. I spent quite a bit of resources to exchange for two bottles.

You know, though the Magic Garden of the Tower of Dark Enigma has bees, it took a lot of willpower to raise them to their current state.

Not a whiff of outside air is allowed in the beehive flower room.

Yet they can free range in the large garden there.

Sia Tower is truly something else.”

Aislin squinted slightly and took a small sip of the wine: ”Ah, it’s indeed a sweet flavor. No wonder you don’t like to drink it.

True, though it’s a bit refreshing like mint wine, the taste is much more fragrant.

But most mages probably won’t like it.

How much honey did you add to your wine?”

”Mainly it’s the petals, just a small spoon of honey to enhance the flavor.” Hilbert chuckled, ”The nectar is an essential aroma enhancer.”

Aislin nodded: ”I see, I’ll go buy it from them.

However, I do prefer the mixed flower honey from the White Tower.

So, I still want your wine.”

”Have your servant learn from Carpenter.” Hilbert said indifferently, ”The recipe for this wine isn’t of much value; a few cake recipes in exchange would do.”
