Surviving The Fourth Calamity

”Miss Aislin, it seems you’ve never doubted Mage Gilbert’s identity!” Rosero did not choose to answer ’Aislin’s question first, he was truly confused, ”Do you really believe there are people in this world with such good luck?”

”Toril, have you not seen enough?” ’Aislin’ retorted.

”I know what a Son of Destiny is.” Rosero sneered, ”Whether Toril’s so-called lucky ones truly have good fates, who knows?

Being tempted by a Devil is not necessarily worse than being chosen by destiny.

But in this world, it’s impossible for anyone to be favored by fate from ten thousand years ago.

Even if some residual aura remains, after the complete annihilation of the mages who mastered prophecy and souls, there’s no chance of anything remaining... no one connects with the laws of fate, and that aura can only bury into the earth, strengthening the earth’s repulsion to spell auras.

Now, so-called good luck is at most a strong innate intuition, but... people who are supposedly favored by fate, able to reach out and grab the best things—absolutely impossible.”

’Aislin’ nodded: ”Gilbert is the kind of person with strong intuition.

Moreover, I remember when he went to buy potions, he complained to Master Ruth that the prices the caravan offered were especially high, almost double... only the two Mental Power Potions, though having a strong energy response, were clearly defective, and sold at the original price.

At that time, Gilbert had just barely become an official mage through sheer will, and the money he painstakingly saved was barely enough to buy those.”

Rosero paused.

Compared to ’Aislin’s vague memory, he himself understood what had happened better.

After all, the matters related to those potions before and after were handled by him: in order to make people think that there was a problem with some Alchemical Materials at the Tower of Sia, so they could only sell the related potions at doubled prices, he had to put in a lot of persuasion.

Potions at the Tower of Sia were already very expensive.

After all, their effectiveness was indeed much stronger than the alchemy potions made by mages using the same materials outside... although some mages were filled with doubts about such a powerful effect, most mages weren’t too suspicious.

Mages weren’t fools, of course, they only started believing the Tower of Sia’s products were genuine after numerous inspections and monitoring people’s reactions after taking the potions.

Other than the price, everything else was perfect.

And the Tower of Sia’s potions indeed did no harm to them personally... as long as they themselves were still alive.

All of it was solely for the soul.

Does Bisozeya controlling that Divine Kingdom really mean it belongs to them?

The souls wholeheartedly wishing to enter Bisozeya’s Divine Kingdom weren’t theirs for the taking either.

It was all a fantastical realm slowly constructed over a long period of time.

Therefore, the low-rank potions at the Tower of Sia were always considered good value for their price, but the high-level potions were incredibly expensive.

As for the Mental Power Potion... what can I say, it was indeed the one potion among many at the Tower of Sia that was most misleading.

The Soul Elixir wasn’t counted, as it was an obvious trap, and those willing to accept it naturally were volunteering to take the bait.

But Mental Power Potions, once their special methods were used, would directly send those who consumed them into the Divine Kingdom.

The reason why people in this world didn’t have doubts was, of course, because these materials were already incomplete.

Ten thousand years ago, the primary material for Mental Power Potions became completely extinct.

Only meteorites occasionally brought some mineral resources that could replace those materials, but changing from a plant resource to a mineral resource, of course, turned what was barely effective into a half-poisonous potion.

People who weren’t gravely injured or near death didn’t dare to use it.

But if they’re about to die, why... bother going through so much trouble?

So, the so-called Mental Power Potion at the Tower of Sia was basically synonymous with ’sending you into the Divine Kingdom.’

However, there were always some whose bodies naturally matched the characteristics of those mineral resources, especially mages adept at summoning meteors.

The rare successes of Mental Power Potions were among such mages... hence, outside, many believed it was the favor of Goddess Bisozeya.

Who expressed that summoning meteors from outside was the greatest effort Goddess Bisozeya claimed she could make for this world’s revival!

But the devils knew what was really going on.

Never mind whether Gilbert’s talent for Magical Arrays and Strange Objects also matched the characteristics of meteor materials, let’s just say... Glaysia, who couldn’t even follow an original formula without messing up, whether her final product actually contained, uh, plant materials taken from her own small space was hard to say.

After all, to replace a plant material, you’d need at least 3 or 4 kinds of mineral materials plus a meteor material, carefully mixed together.

This required very high demands on the potion makers, and one little mistake could ruin everything.

With Glaysia’s ability... Rosero doubted his own eyes when he received those two bottles of messy potions.

Although one look and you could tell the quality wasn’t great, no matter how it was tested, they were indeed Mental Power Potions.

Glaysia was still wondering if her finished products could be sold... The most damn frustrating thing is, she also hopes others would buy them willingly without knowing what’s going on.

Is this a test of other people’s judgment?

Is this a test of his, Rosero’s, ability to play the lackey!

How could there be any year when Mental Power Potions couldn’t sell out, how come it’s such a coincidence that only these two bottles are left this year?

Glaysia not only required secrecy but also demanded it to happen naturally... The key is, if she really wanted to know, Rosero couldn’t deceive her!

That year, his once unyielding resolve faced a terrifying test: generally speaking, the producers of Alchemy Potions are always Black Robes under Fengo.

How could the means hidden by the devils let the locals know?

Even if they have a hunch that Sia Tower has many secrets, and they understand they are abetting evildoers, they wouldn’t willingly turn to the path of betraying the world and betraying humanity.

The devils, having toyed with human hearts for so long, certainly wouldn’t make mistakes at times like this... Since they need their independent, at least superficially independent souls, they shouldn’t test the other party’s tolerance.

Otherwise, someone will suddenly hit rock bottom and bounce back.

So even if they’re quite annoyed, since Glaysia and Fengo allowed them to sell their own things, only needing to give a portion of the profits to the caravan, the Black Faction reluctantly accepted this pay-as-you-go job.

Though this makes them a bit confused about life... not relying on scheming but earning money with their own hands, yet, the taste of money is still sweet.

As for Glaysia and Fengo, they need, of course, not these simple things.

They have been trying to make all the magic towers in the world use Sia Tower’s self-made gold, silver, and copper coins as their currency system.

However, those archmages may not understand economic circulation, but they do know that the more an enemy desires something—something so craved it can’t even be hidden—the more they must not let them have it.

Anyway, the final result is, those capable magic towers play with their own currency, while the incapable ones naturally resort to bartering.

Even those small magic towers won’t simply let Sia Tower establish an economic system in their place... They indeed trade with Sia Tower’s caravans, but the money they get is also spent at Sia Tower.

Yet, on Sia Tower’s side, they actually have this in mind.

Playing this kind of game with mages, there’s bound to be endless tugging and pulling.

But who told them that their scheme for this world requires the natives!

For the devils, what is important has always been humans... Only humans can create a world overflowing with desire.

Rosero sighed softly: ”Ah, did intuition make him choose one of only two bottles?”

”And poverty,” ’Aislin’ pouted.

”Well... okay, maybe this is a good outcome?” Rosero suddenly became spirited.

”What are you talking about?” ’Aislin’ turned around in amazement.

”At the very least, Lady Sia’s alchemy potion was particularly successful, wasn’t it?” Rosero answered with sincere joy.

’Aislin’ blinked her big eyes for almost a minute before she realized what Rosero was saying.

But she completely didn’t want to discuss this issue... She was the biggest proof of whether Glaysia had any alchemy talent; she just confirmed once again: ”How long can Gilbert hold out?”

Even though the first attack with the magic crossbow failed rather comically.

But clearly, that attack also touched the limit of Gilbert’s Magic Tower’s defenses... The energy-absorbing array and the puppet bird flock were instantly activated.

Just a few more shots, and with the cooperation of those archmages, Delphus should still be able to break Gilbert’s defensive layer.

At most, it would be quite embarrassing, but not entirely without success.

Of course, that would be without her and Rosero appearing.

Although ’Aislin’ would love to see Gilbert’s handsome little face twisted into an ugly look, she still remembered that, for now, the other side is an ally.

An ally whose face cannot be torn just yet.

”Another three rounds...” Rosero observed for a moment before speaking carefully.

”What?” ’Aislin’ was extremely surprised, ”Isn’t this already the third shot?”

Did that woman behind him not already set it on fire?

That was an Eighth Ring Spell!”

”Using a group attack Eighth Ring Spell at this time, I wonder if she intends to help Delphus or... nonchalantly remarked Rosero, ”And that crossbow, it’s obvious, has its attack limit locked.”
