Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Hillbert’s Magic Tower hadn’t collapsed yet, but Delphus’ subordinates had already been lost twice.

The critical point is, if you don’t consider whether the deaths of these two guys have any hidden reasons... they died from Delphus inexplicably turning back while holding that Great Diamond.

Delphus felt truly aggrieved.

Obviously, it was that unlucky guy, whose name he couldn’t quite remember, Gray or Gree, who first had a problem that startled him into turning back!

Even though he intentionally didn’t completely stop when he turned back... a normal person, upon hearing a ghost behind them, would naturally react first by striking down that ghost!

As for whether others would get involved, what does that have to do with him?

If it wasn’t him who died, then it’s just fine!

Following behind him, is there anyone who doesn’t know what his attribute is?

Those who don’t know what they ought to do, dying is just normal.

But Delphus really couldn’t understand why Oro Cardenas also had to die.

Of course, he saw that guy inexplicably pause for a moment, causing him to get slightly burned by those terrifying flames, but while he could understand severe injuries, why would he die!

This is the guy who exposed the identity from Tower of Despair yet could decisively find a way out; how could he die entirely unprepared?

Where were his protective spells?

And what about the activation-oriented protective Strange Objects... Eighth Ring Mage, who wouldn’t prepare seventeen or eighteen of these!

Really think that colleagues beside you are all allies?

It’s a bit too unbelievable. Who set him up... or, was he the one setting traps just now?

Perhaps the latter guy was actually the one implicated?

Of course, it’s more likely to be the opposite.

Especially since that guy originally had a good relationship with Cardenas, frequently whispering together.

Delphus wasn’t concerned because he knew very well that his subordinates would always form alliances in small groups, even if not to guard against competitors they still feared accidentally being thrown out as bait or a shield.

Only by exchanging information could they live a bit more confidently.

But, whether the person found ends up trapping himself just depends on his own wit and luck.

No matter who out of them ended up sabotaging the other, they ultimately perished together, and Delphus for the time isn’t interested in digging into why they would play tricks at this moment!

Now the most important thing is not letting others believe these two died under Delphus’ command!

So... feeling utterly unlucky, the Archmage furrowed his brows, speaking with a solemn face, ”That guy behind, was he also from Tower of Despair?”

”Oro Cardenas would certainly have offended someone from over there?”

”Your enemy, he also offended many.” The Female Mage couldn’t immediately fathom the purpose behind Delphus’ words, responding just out of habit with a jab.

Even though everyone knew she was a woman whose heart had flown to Pet despite being physically close to Delphus, while Delphus remained in power, she was still Delphus’ lover.

Though it might sound bizarre, within this world their relationship could still be considered stable.

Thus, even if the Female Mage never spared him verbally, Delphus wouldn’t take it heart... as long as before his utter downfall, or even death, this woman who couldn’t publicly sever ties would need to stay by his side aiding him.

Although she might exert merely seventy percent strength when contributing, she must still exert herself.

Compared with other henchmen who required expensive resources to command, Delphus naturally preferred her labor... enduring a few cusses was nothing to him.

Of course, women must also be allotted a portion of his resources.

Yet, likewise, the alliance formed by two Ninth Ring Mages from Sia Tower gained far more than the sum of 1+1 from the shared portion.

If not, there’d be no need for alliances based on lover relations to exist.

Thus, the resources adopted by Delphus’ lover actually trickled more directly from her own merits.

In contrast, if her lover wasn’t Delphus, lacked his identity and status but was another lesser entity Nine Ring Mage, acquiring this allotment would require lengthy waits for processes which might span hundreds of years unaccomplished.

Unless among them, someone suddenly excelled spectacularly gaining recognition from top figures of Sia Tower.

Mages having no chance even to converse with Rosero, should never entertain such wonderful prospects.

To get fully assigned resources belonging to one, already requires those at Sia Tower responsible for dispensation, namely Rosero of the White Robe Faction.

Though that Archmage’s disposition might seem cold, he never lived off embezzling others’ resources.

Despite not wanting to admit it, the survival environment within Sia Tower is actually quite harsh.

Though it seems just, privately, there are always little tricks making life rather difficult.

Those who manage climbing to peaks surely are never simplistic.

Delphus clearly knew that Lady Sia and the ’Black Artist’ could never be unaware of matters below, yet the two of them never intervened nor obstructed anything.

No one is worth them taking the initiative to step forward; it only depends on whether you can find a path to keep going in this complex order established by various small groups and large factions.

Delphus isn’t worried that the top figures of Sia Tower would interfere with his actions, partly due to his observations of these great figures over the years.

Of course, he understands the importance of Tower of Dark Enigma, but this importance does not protect everyone within it.

Lady Sia and the ’Black Artist’ undoubtedly hope that Tower of Dark Enigma can fully integrate into the life of Sia Tower... yet they cannot publicly explain the hidden order of Sia Tower.

Therefore, Delphus takes the initiative to teach them a lesson, even if it means facing some punishment later, it won’t break his backbone.

Compared to letting Gilbert Hainarson cause him trouble, Delphus would rather sacrifice a part of his current interests.

If it weren’t for ’Aislin’, his thoughts might not be wrong.

But most importantly, Hilbert is not Gilbert.

However, ’Aislin’ noticed these matters precisely because of Hilbert... so all of Delphus’s plans were completely shattered due to the different protagonist.

Delphus tightly clenched the Great Diamond in his hand, the veins bulging on the back of his hand... What should he do now?

The other mages had already figured out what Delphus was hinting at and somewhat agreed.

Although they wouldn’t agree that the misfortune of these two guys was due to the Tower of Despair, they also believed that it wasn’t Delphus who entrapped them.

But what does it matter?

With your subordinate dying inexplicably behind you, your first reaction as the Main Handler is to shirk responsibility, the second is to want to continue... instead of finding out why they died?

The Eighth Ring Mages of Sia Tower, there are quite a few, but they’re not worthless, right?

The female mage hesitated for a moment before seriously stating, ”No matter how you think, if you still wish to attack, let me take them away first!

Even if what you say is true, they still died upon your Order Jewel, didn’t they?

You can’t expect others to face such immense danger to see you try again.

Our lives are lives too.

Delphus, have you thought it through?”

Delphus certainly thought it through.

Of course, he doesn’t want to stop... but he knows he definitely can’t continue anymore.

The scream on the White Tower—is it related or not? He’s a bit uneasy.

After all, the Defense Tower as a Strange Object, he knows only that it’s very terrifying and has never been used.

And whether his biological father, from whom he stole this thing, had been prepared for this, tweaking the Order Jewel during his theft, he’s unsure.

He continues to show unwillingness here, fearing that if his actions have indeed caused Lady Sia of the White Tower any loss... at least, he can’t let her think he did so deliberately and with a purposeful, even nostalgic, mindset, right?

Over the years, he sold out his bloodline, pride, and emotions, leaving only a body and a soul without a home, with no retreat.

He can only ensure his presence is always felt in Sia Tower.

Despite those below not understanding his actions, the one at the highest point does understand that, even though he has personal motives, he is working hard for her.

Yet, Delphus does not regret walking this thorn-filled path... though it causes his feet to be wounded, it is at least a sufficiently long path.

Delphus wasn’t heartless from the start.

He just wants to live.

The more others want him dead, the more he wants to live stubbornly.

And the strength of Sia Tower... the higher he goes, the more he knows its invincibility.

Many things that Lady Sia isn’t unaware of, but she chooses to temporarily let go... once considered seriously, nothing else matters.

However, once one begins to forsake something important, they can only continue to abandon it.

He does not regret.

”Delphus?” The female mage looked at him silently, unable to stop herself from urging, ”Hurry up and decide!

Anyway, the face is already lost, do you want to lose a bit more, or just like this?”

Delphus’s mouth twitched... Is this woman crazy today?

”Go!” He could only reply simply and angrily, then took the lead into the sky.

As they just rose into the sky, a massive Puppet Falcon came roaring towards them.

And in the sky, beneath the veil of clouds that had grown indistinct with the dissipation of moonlight, countless tiny birds transformed into a red light, crashing towards their heads.

Although the Wind Elemental Pool had temporarily shut down, the Energy Absorbing Arrays of the puppet birds were still active!

Those two towers still stood firm.
