Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1599: Chapter 804: Official Start of Filming (3)

This has little to do with Zhou Lan’s work.

Zhou Lan said: It’s preparation for the future, art films definitely need an international market, otherwise they will likely lose money domestically. Don’t you want to invest in some art films in the future? Although your goal isn’t to make money, it’s better not to lose money.

Zhou Yun didn’t expect Zhou Lan to think so far ahead.

She felt somewhat moved.

Zhou Lan: Besides, knowing more people is always a good thing. Who knows when we might need someone’s help in the future?

Domestic films need to go abroad and gain international recognition, channels are badly needed.

Without stable international channels, they can only rely on themselves to expand one region at a time.

Currently, the distribution in Asia is quite good domestically, but Europe and America lack a bit, which is related to the established mindset that Chinese-language films, apart from action and martial arts films, don’t sell well. But anyway, Chinese-language films must continue to be released internationally to transform quantity into quality, rather than lingering in double-digit theaters as a pretense of international screening.

New Shield put a lot of effort into the global distribution of ”Four Killers” and ”Two Tigers,” and of course, this is related to the film’s genre. Chinese action and martial arts films still have a specific market.

But regardless, both films broke the $40 million mark overseas, which is a very impressive box office number.

Including domestic box office, the global box office for both films exceeded $100 million.

This is why Yao Yuanfeng is increasingly respectful and attentive toward Zhou Yun.

New Shield wants to develop the global box office market; relying solely on films is far from enough; stars are also needed.

Zhou Yun is currently the most recognized celebrity during this period.

When the overseas box office of the two films exceeded tens of millions of dollars, a promotional round was already done domestically.

And with increasingly better overseas performances, Zhou Yun’s name also appeared in reports from more foreign countries’ media.

Previously, Zhou Yun’s name always came with the titles of ”Life,” ”Behind the Scenes,” and ”Deep Sea,” which were her most famous films on the overseas scene; now she has representative works in the mainstream audience’s mind as well.

Of course, actually many viewers after watching ”Two Tigers” and ”Four Killers” won’t have a particularly deep impression of Zhou Yun. Honestly, she wasn’t the absolute lead in these movies.

Tim Lang suddenly went to see ”Two Tigers” and later told Zhou Yun: ”You’re so captivating in this movie, sexy and able to fight.”

Zhou Yun was amused.

She thought Tim Lang had watched this movie a long time ago.

After all, ”Killing Song” is an action movie, and her previous serious modern action movie was ”Two Tigers.”

Zhou Yun said: ”Tim, if you have any innovative ideas, feel free to tell me directly, don’t worry that I would mind or be unable to execute them. I will fully cooperate with you. If I really can’t do it, I will tell you directly. I am worried that directors, because of various concerns, won’t tell me the truth. I want to hear the truth; do you understand?”

Tim Lang laughed.

”Of course, I already felt it,” Tim Lang said. ”You’ve truly surprised me a lot. I didn’t often collaborate with actors from other countries before because people from every country have different habits. My previous collaboration with a Chinese actor was unpleasant, to be honest. I don’t understand why the production team would choose such an actor. Later they told me it’s because that actor was popular in China. Before I knew you, although I knew you were different from that actor, I watched your works, you are a very talented actor. But when they told me you were the top female celebrity in China, I was worried, afraid you might be arrogant and difficult to collaborate with. I mean honestly, before I knew you, I really worried about you like that.”

”I understand; I hope since getting to know me, I haven’t left you with such an impression,” Zhou Yun smiled. ”But honestly, I can be a bit stubborn. If I can’t understand something, I might not be able to keep up with your ideas and pace immediately. In such cases, I find it hard to deliver the effect you want. I need you to give me more explanations and guidance. Trust me, I definitely won’t deliberately make things difficult for you or refuse to cooperate. If friction occurs, it’s truly because I cannot understand you, and that requires us to spend more time overcoming it together.”
