Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1559: Chapter 791

”Speaking of which, I never expected, Sister Quanying, why did you become a mentor on a talent show?” Yin Lin asked.

Chen Quanying said, ”Why else? Money, of course. They were offering a lot of money, and I didn’t have any other work at the time, so I took it.”

Everyone couldn’t help but laugh.

”The main thing is that being a mentor on a talent show doesn’t really suit you. It’d be more fitting for you to mentor on a singing competition show.”

Chen Quanying: ”Oh come on, to be honest, besides my agent convincing me to take the job, there’s another major reason. I really wanted to know what these young kids are into nowadays, what they’re thinking. Sometimes I even wonder if I’m outdated. Are there still people who listen to my songs?”

Ning Yao immediately raised her hand and said, ”Of course, I’m your loyal fan.”

Chen Quanying immediately said, ”Oh, get out of here, you’re already in your thirties, not exactly a young kid.”

Ning Yao: ”...”

Lew Yuan laughed heartily, patting Ning Yao on the shoulder, saying, ”A kid in their thirties.”

Chen Quanying clicked her tongue, ”I’ve been wondering about this, when should I retire from singing? It feels like I’m just standing in the industry based on my experience. I used to have sold-out concerts, but now I’m afraid to hold them for fear no one will buy tickets.”

”Not at all, Sister Quanying. You still have many loyal fans,” Yin Lin said, ”Even though kids nowadays like young idols, it doesn’t mean people who like you have disappeared. I have many friends asking why you haven’t held a concert in so long.”

Chen Quanying: ”If I hold a concert, will anyone come? The tickets wouldn’t even sell.”

Zhou Yun said, ”No way, Sister Quanying. It’s just that in the past couple of years, you haven’t been out singing much, so it seems like your fan base has shrunk. But if you sing more, people will know you’re still here, and they’ll come back.”

”It’s really not like that.” Chen Quanying lifted her wine glass, ”Alright, alright, enough about my issues. Let’s drink.”

Seeing this, everyone had to raise their glasses and clink them together.

”A while ago, I even saw Wang Jie,” Chen Quanying said. ”Back then, he was framed for drug use, and after that, he retired from the scene. I hadn’t seen him in so many years, I almost didn’t recognize him. He’s gained a lot of weight, and he greeted me with a big smile. I felt really bad inside. It was such a shame for him. Even though the truth about his drug scandal came out later, no one remembers him anymore. He was truly someone who was great at singing back in the day.”

Zhou Yun wasn’t familiar with the music scene and didn’t know who Chen Quanying was talking about, so she couldn’t relate to Chen Quanying’s feelings.

Lew Yuan looked as if he knew, and he sighed as he listened.

”Actually, I’ve always wanted to create a show that gathers those who were once great but left the industry due to unfortunate circumstances, or those who never had a chance to be known by people, and introduce them to everyone,” Lew Yuan said. ”But this idea is hard to realize. It’s tough to find a good concept and pitch, and I don’t know how to promote it.”

Chen Quanying’s eyes lit up, ”Hey, Lew Yuan, I think your idea is great!”

”The idea is good, but we can’t just put people in a show without any design. We need to showcase their talent,” Lew Yuan said. ”It’s so difficult, and there’s no platform or production team interested. Everyone just wants to work with famous people. Those who aren’t famous are ignored.”

Ning Yao said, ”No worries, Lew Yuan. If one day you really make such a show and need my help, just give me a call and I’ll be there.”

Chen Quanying said, ”Yes, if you need us to help, I’ll definitely go.”

Zhou Yun said, ”Actually, Brother Lew, I think your new show ’Life Visit’ can do this. Doesn’t each episode invite guests to visit a place and participate in local life?”

Lew Yuan shook his head, ”In my experience, shows like ’Life Visit’ tend to highlight the artists’ personalities and charisma more, but for the people we mentioned, I actually want the audience to see their talent. For viewers, they don’t have much fame and are just ordinary people. Highlighting their personality and charisma, even if liked by the audience, creates a short-lived buzz or false sense of popularity that can’t last long.”

Zhou Yun understood.

She nodded, ”I get it. It really is difficult that way.”

Chen Quanying: ”In my opinion, you might as well do a show like ’I Am a Singer,’ gathering people together for a competition.”

Lew Yuan said, ”I’ve thought about it, but to be honest, the success of ’I Am a Singer’ is hard to replicate. It originally attracted attention because of its concept, where a group of famous singers competes. After it became popular, many shows tried to copy it, but their popularity decreased.”

In variety shows, creativity and the lineup are both crucial.

Without creativity, a show won’t keep the audience watching.

If a show lacks good creativity, even with a bunch of top stars, it might still fail drastically.

”By the way, Yin Lin, didn’t you film a drama with Liang Yuanpu not long ago? Why hasn’t it aired yet? I’ve been waiting to watch it,” Chen Quanying asked.

She was talking about the drama ’Flowering Period’ co-produced by Yuehai and Paimon.

Yin Lin said, ”I heard there are some issues with the review process. They’re coordinating it now.”

”Will it be broadcast abroad as well?” Chen Quanying asked. ”When the drama was promoted, it was said to have a very extravagant international cast, with actors from Korea and Japan.”

Yin Lin nodded.

”The actors are indeed quite well-known. Nakajima Hoto and Kim Fancheng are officially announced cast members. Besides them, there are several other famous actors involved,” Yin Lin said. ”If it weren’t for Yuehai’s involvement in the production, the lead roles might not have gone to Chinese actors.”

Chen Quanying said, ”Would they really dare let Korean and Japanese actors play Chinese characters? If anyone dared to do that, they’d be asking for trouble.”

”Yes, that’s what we all said. So in the end, the characters in this drama retain the nationality of the actors,” Yin Lin said. ”A lot happened during the filming of this drama. There was a Korean actress, Kim Sailin. She wasn’t happy that He Wenyun got the lead female role. At that time, He Wenyun had no released dramas and was a complete newcomer. Kim Sailin bullied He Wenyun on set and got slapped twice by her, which shocked everyone.”

Chen Quanying’s eyes suddenly lit up.

”Is He Wenyun really that awesome? She’s got quite a temper.”

Yin Lin laughed and said, ”Yes, after He gave those two slaps, no one dared to say anything to her again. Kim Sailin really didn’t have eyes to see—think about such a big production and He Wenyun being cast as the lead, there’s got to be something special about her. How could Kim Sailin think she could bully He? I can’t even understand what was going on in her head. Afterwards, Kim Sailin became much more behaved, acting respectfully in front of He Wenyun. I think this young girl is pretty impressive.”

Ning Yao had a gentle smile on her lips.

”I had one encounter with Kim Sailin before. When I was filming ’Mortal Realm’ in Korea, one night Zhao Weicheng took me to a party, and Kim Sailin was there. I went to the restroom and heard her inside complaining to someone that I stole her opportunity. She said ’Mortal Realm’ was planning to cast her as the female lead,” Ning Yao said. ”I was really surprised when I heard it, so I asked Director Kim Bingde about it. He said he never considered her, and then I asked the producer, and they hadn’t heard anything about it either. That’s when I realized she was just talking nonsense.”

”What kind of person is she to be like that?” Chen Quanying asked with a stern face. ”If I met someone like that, I’d definitely give her a couple of slaps too.”

”He Wenyun is quite a straightforward person,” Zhou Yun said. ”And she’s polite too. Although not overly friendly, she’s not the kind to lash out easily. For her to take action, Kim Sailin must’ve done something really excessive.”

”Oh right, you worked with He Wenyun, didn’t you?”

”Yes, on ’Deep Sea,’” Zhou Yun said. ”We filmed that one drama together before she went back abroad for more work.”

Yin Lin said, ”Also ’Flowering Period’—even though it had investment from Paimon, Yuehai was the main production company. He Wenyun signed her domestic film contracts with Yuehai, which is why Yuehai chose her as the female lead.”

Zhou Yun said, ”Yuehai treats her quite well.”

”Yes, there was even a producer coming to the set constantly to try to get her to star in another drama, but she flatly declined. As soon as ’Flowering Period’ was done filming, she went to the United States,” Yin Lin said. ”Despite that, it didn’t affect her performance in ’Flowering Period’ at all. Anyway, after working with her on this drama, I feel this girl is quite amazing. Her acting skills are indeed good, and she deals with everyone in such a calm and poised manner.”

Zhou Yun noticed that they seemed to talk about anything and everything, without any taboos. These kinds of gatherings must have happened many times before.

It was her first time joining.

Of course, her presence didn’t make the gathering feel awkward at all.

Among them, probably the one she was least familiar with was Chen Quanying—but Chen Quanying herself was quite cheerful and not someone who felt distant.

They chatted until about 9:30 PM before going their separate ways.

Lew Yuan even asked if she wanted to join him for another gathering.

Zhou Yun declined.

”I have work tomorrow.”

Lew Yuan nodded and said, ”Then we’ll meet in a few days.”

”Alright.” Zhou Yun nodded.

Cao Jun had already brought the car around and was waiting for her.

After Zhou Yun went out with the others, she saw Cao Jun at the door.
