Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1561: Chapter 792_2

Moreover, what shocked Zhou Yun the most was that Director Kang Xin actually crafted the screenplay himself.

Especially for a television drama.

In this field, creating an original screenplay of large scale truly consumes time and energy. Generally, famous directors have their own regular screenwriters and won’t personally write it themselves. But Kang Xin still does it himself.

Zhou Yun asked, ”Director, what kind of story is your new screenplay?”

Director Kang Xin said, ”Hmm, it’s a story about the growth of a young boy who wants to become an architect.”

”Hmm?” Zhou Yun was a bit surprised, ”Is it about a boy’s growth?”

Director Kang Xin nodded.

Zhou Yun was quite stunned.

”Then what is the age range?” Zhou Yun asked.

Director Kang Xin said, ”He starts appearing at age twelve, and it goes all the way until he’s thirty.”

Zhou Yun asked in surprise, ”Then doesn’t that mean finding at least two actors to play his different stages?”

Director Kang Xin nodded and said, ”That’s right.”

Zhou Yun knew that in domestic dramas, child actors or young actors are often used to play the character’s younger self, but that’s usually just a short segment, not more than five episodes.

However, Director Kang Xin definitely didn’t mean that.

Filming the growth of this boy means covering every stage.

It means that actors of different age stages must take on very substantial roles.

Zhou Yun felt a sudden sense of respect.

”Filming like this should be very challenging, right?” Zhou Yun said.

Director Kang Xin: ”Yes, finding the right actors is very difficult.”

”Hmm?” Zhou Yun asked, ”Why?”

Director Kang Xin said, ”Which big-name actor would be willing to appear only after the drama is halfway aired?”

He gave a bitter smile.

This was a realistic consideration.

If it were Zhou Yun, for a role that only appears in the later half, she would also think carefully.

Unless someone like Director Kang Xin, with whom she had a long and gilded history, personally invited her, she would attend.

That’s a very real issue.

Zhou Yun asked, ”Have you thought about casting Song Chi, Director?”

Director Kang Xin said, ”Song Chi doesn’t have any availability, he’s booked up for the whole of next year.”

Zhou Yun suddenly understood.

If it was Song Chi, given his relationship with Director Kang Xin, he definitely wouldn’t mind.

However, for a director as big as Kang Xin, surely some actors are willing, but it seems those willing actors don’t satisfy Kang Xin.

Zhou Yun immediately thought of Gu Huaichun.

Should she suggest Gu Huaichun to Director Kang?

Gu Huaichun’s current appearance is just right, but she didn’t know if it was the type Director Kang was looking for.

Zhou Yun thought for a moment and decided not to suggest it first. She would speak to Gu Huaichun herself about this matter. If Gu Huaichun was interested and wanted to act, he could reach out to Director Kang Xin himself. With Gu Huaichun’s current fame, Director Kang Xin’s team definitely wouldn’t turn him away. At least they would meet him, have a chat, and then whether Gu Huaichun could secure this role depended on whether he could impress Director Kang Xin.

Director Kang Xin said, ”NH contacted me again. They have a project and have always wanted me to be the director. I’m hesitant, not knowing whether to accept.”

Zhou Yun asked, ”Why not accept?”

Director Kang Xin said, ”Firstly, I have many projects I’m progressing on my own. I feel time is scarce even for my own projects. Secondly, I’ve never shot a film abroad, and I’m honestly a bit apprehensive. My English isn’t good, communicating with them would be a problem.”

That is indeed a real issue.

If a director can only communicate with the crew through a translator, various problems are sure to arise.

Zhou Yun said, ”Director, what do you plan to do?”

Director Kang Xin: ”I just haven’t figured out what to do. To shoot or not to shoot, that’s the question. I’ve finished reading the script, NH is quite sincere, they even prepared a Chinese version for me, having someone translate it. I’m very interested, it’s a suspense script, the setting and characters are in a small town in the United States, with a very classic suspense setup.”

Zhou Yun pondered for a moment, ”Director, if you want to shoot it, give it a try. We can advance if it succeeds, retreat if it fails, it’s only a trial that didn’t work out. But you’re already a top-tier director in our country. If you can let more audience members come to know, like, and trust you, that’s a wonderful thing. Didn’t you always tell me? If I have the ability and responsibility to let the world see more Chinese faces, you are the same. Now that there’s an opportunity, you should let more people see you, know you. As for not being good at English... with your learning capacity, mastering daily communication in a few months shouldn’t be a problem.”
