Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1554: Chapter 787: The Truth

This is a very helpless fact.

Yuk Chu knows it herself.

She is not a talented actress, in fact, she relies purely on ”brute force” for acting.

In many crews, directors never have high demands on her; as long as the necessary emotions are in place, the scene will pass.

It’s not that the directors’ demands are low, but they know Yuk Chu’s limit, knowing she can only act to this degree.

If it weren’t for the sudden attention from her parents’ debt problems earlier, and her frantic appearances in numerous dramas, with such frequent screen time that it’s startling, playing a few roles that sparked discussions and memorable moments, plus the explosive popularity of ”Deep Sea” this year with Zhou Yun, she would find it hard to play the leading role.

But even now as the leading lady, the directors’ expectations are still the same.

Yuk Chu originally thought she was just a guest star, who knew she would be startled by Wen Bing’s filming method as soon as she came.

The lines are written on the spot, unable to prepare in advance, the more anxious she gets on site, the more she fails to get into the role.

Until dinner.

Yuk Chu sat at her seat, looking at the table full of delicious smelling dishes, completely without appetite.

She was truly restless.

She even regretted a bit.

Zhou Yun saw Yuk Chu in this state, also helpless. Actually, Wen Bing had already made some adjustments, Zhou Yun could see that. When filming with Gu Huaichun, Wen Bing didn’t write any lines at all, not a single word, he just let them act by themselves.

After dinner, Yuk Chu thought she could rest and organize her thoughts, but on seeing the staff setting up cameras again, she was stunned.

Wen Bing said, ”Later tonight, we’ll continue filming.”

Yuk Chu looked bewildered and asked, filming what?

Wen Bing said, ”Filming you chatting with Zhou Yun.”

Yuk Chu asked, ”Chatting about what?”

Wen Bing said, ”I have an idea, just chat about your child.”

”Child?” Yuk Chu was utterly shocked.

”There’s no script, but just think, what do you want to say to Zhou Yun about your child,” Wen Bing said, ”Don’t mind us, I won’t call cut, if you say something wrong, or have slips of the tongue, just start again by yourself, or ignore it, it’s okay, just act like you’re chatting privately with Zhou Yun, understand?”

Yuk Chu hesitantly nodded her head.

Wen Bing said, ”I know you definitely haven’t filmed like this before, I want a very natural, plain feeling, you can first watch a few scenes Zhou Yun filmed with Gu Huaichun, see the feeling I’m looking for.”

Yuk Chu went to watch with Wen Bing.

Wen Bing had already done a rough cut of a few scenes.

Among them was Zhou Yun discussing the film industry with Gu Huaichun, about six minutes long.

On camera, neither of them were directly looking at each other, one was looking at their teacup, the other at the ground, but during the conversation, they occasionally looked up at each other, and when there was eye contact, their eyes seemed to have flowing water waves, spreading a very natural, gentle ambiance.

The two of them were very harmonious on screen, speaking unhurriedly, and there was silence and gaps between several lines, like two real friends who haven’t met for a long time chatting, which, in fact, they indeed were.

Yuk Chu suddenly understood the feeling Wen Bing wanted.

However, understanding is one thing, being able to achieve it is another.

Yuk Chu believed she couldn’t achieve it.

She’s not the kind of actress who can improvise easily, not knowing what her next line should be, she can’t get into the performance state, her brain would freeze, and she’d panic.

She would keep thinking, what should she do, what should be done next.

Her entire attention would move away from the character’s state.

Yuk Chu thought she needed to honestly tell Wen Bing these things.

However, after she finished speaking, Wen Bing said, ”No problem, if you don’t know what to say, just think of one thing, and say it, I’ve said it before, you don’t need to care about your state, you’ll be filming with Zhou Yun for three hours tonight, but maybe I’ll only use three minutes of it in the end, as long as those three minutes are enough.”

Yuk Chu sighed, nodded, and said alright.

...

Beijing.

A private club.

Zhou Lan sat in the middle of a table of people, raised her glass, and said, ”President Lin, thanks to you last time for the recommendation, Huang Zicheng could get that role in Director Jiang Chao’s new film, I must toast to you.”

Others immediately started making a fuss.

”Little Zhou, why are you only toasting Mr. Jiang? Isn’t Director Jiang Chao’s film produced by President Huang’s company? Why aren’t you toasting President Huang?”

Zhou Lan said, ”I’m toasting one by one, don’t rush me.”

Everyone laughed.

”I think Little Zhou is toasting President Lin first because he’s young and handsome, unlike us greasy, middle-aged uncles whom Little Zhou looks down on.”

Zhou Lan showed an innocent smile and said, ”President Chen, you’re really putting me in a difficult position, how could I not have the qualification to look down on you all, what’s more, you’re not greasy middle-aged uncles? Every one of you keeps your figure well, you must exercise regularly, right? Last time President Chen, you said you’d invite me to play golf, why haven’t you called me yet?”

President Chen: ”Who said I didn’t invite you? I clearly sent you two messages, you declined both times.”

”That’s because I wasn’t in Beijing, every time I come to Beijing, you don’t send me any message.” Zhou Lan sighed, ”Oh, I also know I’m not very good-looking, and I’m not very much to President Chen’s liking.”

President Chen: ”Hey, who said you’re not good-looking? I never said that, in my eyes, you’re the most beautiful person in the world.”

Zhou Lan glanced mischievously and said, ”Really?”

She laughed playfully, ”Since President Chen said so, I’ll believe it then.”

...

Late at night, it was already early morning when Zhou Lan finally finished the drinking session and came out of the private club.

Her cheeks were flushed from having drunk quite a bit.

Unable to drive, she had to call for a chauffeur.

Zhou Lan considered whether to call for a chauffeur or just take a taxi back home.

At this time of night, Beijing was already very cold.

The temperature was very low.

The wind blew chillingly, cutting into her neck.

Zhou Lan thought if she went home directly by taxi, she would still have to come back to retrieve the car tomorrow morning, so decided to call a chauffeur.

At that moment, a car suddenly stopped in front of her.

The window rolled down, it was President Lin.

Lin Zhiping.

Although this man had also been drinking, it didn’t show on his face.

He looked at Zhou Lan with concern and asked, ”Director Zhou, do you need me to have my driver take you home first?”

Zhou Lan looked at this handsome young and capable man with delighted surprise and said, ”Thank you, President Lin, I’ve called a chauffeur, it’s not necessary.”

Upon hearing this, Lin Zhiping nodded, rolled up the window, and drove away.

Zhou Lan watched the leaving car, a tinge of disappointment crossed her heart.

If Lin Zhiping truly cared for her, shouldn’t he ask one more question, not just leave as soon as she said there was no need?

As this thought crossed her mind, Zhou Lan immediately chided herself with a smile, what was she thinking?

Just now President Chen said Lin Zhiping was young and handsome, it wasn’t exaggerated.

He truly was.

Young is compared to others at the table.

Lin Zhiping was already thirty-five years old, but he truly kept up his fitness, his body was great, even in a shirt one could see the contours of his muscles.

Half a year ago, his wife died of cancer.

Since then, countless women had their eyes set on him.

On first meeting him, Zhou Lan felt a little move at heart.

Towards a handsome and successful man, nearly no woman wouldn’t feel moved.

But Zhou Lan quickly realized, she practically had no chance with Lin Zhiping.

The two of them aren’t from the same world at all.

Lin Zhiping isn’t even in the film industry.

He’s in architectural design, but because he’s close to President Chen, he’s often dragged to join their dining gatherings.

Every time Zhou Lan comes to Beijing to invite these people to dinner, President Chen usually calls Lin Zhiping along.

Over time, Zhou Lan had become familiar with him.

Of course, it’s only a superficial acquaintance, never having met up privately, nor contacted.

Yet Zhou Lan remembered him.

That’s how the circle works, it’s best to know a bit about people from different industries, you never know when you’ll need their help.

Zhou Lan opened the app to call for a chauffeur, but suddenly, a car made a U-turn from across the street and stopped in front of her again.

Zhou Lan was taken aback.

The window rolled down, revealing Lin Zhiping’s face again.

He opened the car door, got out, and stood before her.

He said, ”Miss Zhou, why not cancel the chauffeur, I’ll take you home, which hotel are you staying at?”
