Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1589: Chapter 801: About Movies, About People

After Yao Yuanfeng finished venting his anger and everyone else left his office, he glanced at the contact number of this screenwriter named Liu Qidong and dialed it.

”Hello, is this Liu Qidong?”

The man’s voice on the other end was relatively deep, and he spoke neither too fast nor too slow, giving a comfortable feeling.

”Yes, this is he. Who is this?”

”This is Yao Yuanfeng, the owner of New Shield.” Yao Yuanfeng smiled slightly, ”I’m not sure if you recognize me?”

There was a pause for two seconds on the line before saying, ”Yes, of course I recognize you. Hello, President Yao.”

Yao Yuanfeng said, ”Qidong, I just finished reading the script ’Child of Prophecy.’ If I had seen this script earlier, I would never have let the previous misunderstanding happen. I just had a serious talk with the person responsible for reviewing scripts on my team. I’m very sorry. You had trusted us and sent your script over, but you didn’t receive good feedback. Let me be frank, I think your script is exceptionally well-written. I can’t understand how my subordinates could miss this and think your script wasn’t good—just a bunch of useless eaters.”

Liu Qidong seemed at a loss for words, silent for a moment.

”Thank you, President Yao, for your praise.” He said at last.

”Do you still have the script, or has someone else already bought it?” Yao Yuanfeng asked, although he already knew the answer.

Liu Qidong said, ”President Yao, I have already reached an agreement with another company.”

”Have you signed the contract?” Yao Yuanfeng inquired.

Liu Qidong replied, ”We’ve already reached an agreement, President Yao. Whether we’ve signed the contract or not makes no difference now. Thank you for your recognition, but I’ve already promised someone else.”

Yao Yuanfeng sighed and said, ”Alright, but Qidong, you need to understand something: while anyone can produce your film, very few companies can provide comprehensive, full-chain services like we at New Shield can, including distribution. How many guaranteed screenings you can get is significantly related to the company.”

”Yes, I know,” Liu Qidong said, ”but I’ve already promised someone else.”

Yao Yuanfeng: ”Alright, in that case, let’s keep in touch. If you have new scripts in the future, feel free to send them my way at any time. I truly appreciate your talent, and I hope to work with you someday.”

Liu Qidong said, ”Okay, President Yao.”

After hanging up, Yao Yuanfeng sighed.

He made another call, this time to Zhou Yun.

”Xiao Yun, have you arrived in Australia? Everything going smoothly?”

”Everything’s going smoothly, thank you for asking, President Yao,” Zhou Yun said, ”Is there something you need to discuss with me? I’m on my way to the hotel.”

Yao Yuanfeng: ”I heard you discovered a new director?”

Zhou Yun: ”President Yao, your information is quick indeed.”

”In this industry, are there any secrets? But, Xiao Yun, why have you suddenly taken an interest in becoming a film producer?”

”I wasn’t really planning on it. It was Lew Yuan who introduced him to me. His film lacked funding and others weren’t interested, so he asked for my opinion. I read his script and really liked it, so I agreed to help him make the movie,” Zhou Yun said. ”I’ve always wanted to support new directors. Why, President Yao, are you interested in him as well?”

”You and he have already had discussions, so I won’t step in and steal at this point,” Yao Yuanfeng said, ”However, if you need my help, just let me know. You’ll always be my top priority.”

Listening to Yao Yuanfeng, Zhou Yun just smiled inwardly and didn’t take it to heart.

Yao Yuanfeng always had a way of making things sound nicer than they were.

”Thank you, President Yao, I appreciate it. I’ll remember that. If I ever need your assistance, I’ll call immediately.”

”No problem, my phone is open to you 24/7.”

...

After hanging up, Zhou Yun shook her head and clicked her tongue.

Hearing the sound, Liu Yun turned to catch a glimpse and asked, ”Sister Xiao Yun, what’s wrong?”

Zhou Yun: ”Nothing, I just got off the phone with Yao Yuanfeng. Somehow, he found out about my interactions with Liu Qidong and called to inquire.”

”Why did he inquire... for what reason?”

”I don’t know, maybe he just heard the news and called to ask,” Zhou Yun said, ”Maybe he also wants to sign Liu Qidong?”

Liu Yun asked, ”Sister Xiao Yun, are you planning to sign Liu Qidong?”

”There are no such plans. Our studio is already fully occupied handling the management for several actors. We don’t have the capacity to support a director’s development,” Zhou Yun said. ”If it weren’t for those film companies overlooking new directors like Liu Qidong, it wouldn’t be up to me personally to invest in him.”
