Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1489: Chapter 674: Sense of Loneliness

”If you ask me, you all are just mythologizing them too much.”

In the meeting room, a man with a beard had a sneer at the corner of his mouth, clearly not taking the current discussion seriously.

”We’ve been in this industry for so long, we have the most basic judgement, right? With a script like this, would anyone be willing to watch a movie made from it?” The bearded man mocked, ”If this can be made into a movie, then couldn’t anyone just grab a camera, record our daily lives, and call it a movie?”

”That’s not necessarily the case. A script is just a script, but a movie is fundamentally a director’s art. Many films have average scripts, yet under a director’s hand, they can become masterpieces. Is there any doubt that Wen Bing is a good director? I don’t think anyone still questions his ability as a director, right?” A woman with long black hair spoke softly yet firmly, ”I remember when President Yao first wanted to sign Wen Bing, some people doubted him, saying Wen Bing was just someone who shot commercials and questioned how he could direct movies. Later, when President Yao planned for him to direct ’Life,’ people said this type of art film has no market in our country. But ’Life’ succeeded, winning awards and achieving good box office results. When they were preparing for him to direct ’Two tigers,’ people said Wen Bing had no experience in action films and thought it was unreliable and unsuitable for him to be the director. But now, everyone has seen the results.”

The woman with long black hair never expressed any disdain or dissatisfaction, nor did she intend to argue with anyone.

She spoke calmly and quietly.

”From ’Female Assassin’ to the current movie, I believe we should have a consensus on a director like Wen Bing, which is to trust him and believe he has the capability. Even if there hasn’t been a successful example in the market, if Wen Bing wants to do it, we should support him.”

The man who had previously ridiculed Wen Bing responded with a sneer, ”So according to you, whatever Wen Bing wants to direct, we support him no matter what because he will definitely succeed, is that it?”

”President Chen, have all the projects you pushed been successful?” The woman looked at him calmly and asked.

President Chen’s expression immediately darkened, glaring at her, almost slamming the table.

”Linlin, what do you mean?”

Linlin said, ”I’m just saying that none of us can guarantee that we’ll always succeed in everything, but at least Wen Bing has proven his vision and ability. So why not give him a bit more support for this small-budget film? He’s not someone else’s director; he’s New Shield’s director, and arguably the most talented director we’ve discovered over the years. But now there are so many people outside saying Wen Bing’s new project will definitely flop, causing the industry to be pessimistic about this project. If such rumors grow, it will certainly affect the external reputation and theater scheduling. Is that what everyone wants to see?”

”President Hu made a good point. No matter what, we’re a family. Saying anything when we’re at home is fine, but outside, we can’t undermine our own people. However, President Hu, you can’t trust someone blindly either. Wen Bing is talented, yes, but talented directors dragging down a company is not uncommon. If we support whatever he wants to do without conditions just because he’s Wen Bing, and then lose money, who will bear that responsibility?” another woman said.

Linlin smiled slightly.

The group began chattering away.

Yao Yuanfeng listened the entire time without speaking.

Until he didn’t hear any more valuable or meaningful content, he coughed lightly twice.

The voices gradually weakened.

Yao Yuanfeng said, ”I’ve heard everyone’s opinions. As you all know, regardless of what happens, Wen Bing will definitely be the director we at New Shield collaborate with the most in the future. Whatever discussion we have must be based on this partnership premise. So Chen Bida, you better put away your dismissive attitude towards him, or if you offend him and make him angry, I’ll definitely go after you in order to pacify him.”
