Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1479: Chapter 760: Director and Actor (Part 3)

She knew that in this industry, many people have talent but no opportunity to showcase it.

She only needed to do one thing, and that was to promote her artists, to elevate them.

Moreover, this industry is truly profit-driven.

Some actors, do they act well? Have they won any awards?

No, but because they’ve always acted in films by top directors or in high-profile indie productions, everyone holds them in higher regard, brands pay, and in the eyes of the audience, their status is elevated.

Don’t think everyone’s success is tangible.

If Wang Jing doesn’t take the highbrow route and instead competes in the popular scene, pursuing the traffic route, the competition pressure would be enormous.

Therefore, if Wang Jing doesn’t receive suitable roles or scripts, Zhou Lan would rather not have her take on any acting than diminish her current prestige.

If Wang Jing could act as the lead in Wen Bing’s new film, then even if it’s a small production, even if the box office does poorly, it’s okay.

Because Wang Jing’s prestige would increase.

She acted as the female lead in Wen Bing’s new film.

Just this point alone sets her apart from other actresses.

What Zhou Lan didn’t expect was that Wang Jing actually didn’t want to act.

”This is definitely because Sister Xiao Yun didn’t act that I got the chance, I’d better pass.” Wang Jing said, ”There are already many people saying I’m relying on Sister Xiao Yun, I don’t mind if they say so, it’s indeed true, but I don’t want to form this fixed impression, as if I can only get roles by relying on Sister Xiao Yun.”

Hearing Wang Jing say this, Zhou Lan knew what she was thinking.

She couldn’t help but sigh.

”Have you thought it through? This is Wen Bing’s new film,” Zhou Lan said, ”If you don’t act, others would definitely snatch at the chance, if it weren’t for your Sister Xiao Yun going to shoot ’Killing Song’ soon, this opportunity wouldn’t have been available.”

Wang Jing earnestly said, ”Sister Lan, I won’t act, I can rely on myself.”

Zhou Lan felt helpless.

Wang Jing was wrestling with herself.

Zhou Lan initially wanted to say something, but she knew, whatever she said would be old clichés.

What she had to say, Wang Jing already knew.

But she also understood Wang Jing’s spirit.

The more it was such a time, the more Zhou Lan paid attention to Wang Jing’s mood, she didn’t want her good intentions to backfire, didn’t want to make Wang Jing frustrated with a ”doing it for your own good” attitude.

”Last week ’Daughter Will Not Leave the Hall’ started airing.” Wang Jing suddenly mentioned a series, seemingly out of nowhere.

Zhou Lan recalled for a while, then realized it’s a drama produced by Song Chi’s Company.

Low-cost, web series, both leads are newcomers.

Zhou Lan hadn’t followed the series, if Wang Jing hadn’t mentioned, she wouldn’t even know it aired.

”What’s up? Is there any news about the drama?”

Wang Jing said, ”A lot of people really like this drama, I saw many recommending it.”

Zhou Lan was stunned.

Wang Jing said, ”Sister Lan, if there is such a script coming to me, I’d like to act as well.”

Only at this moment did Zhou Lan understand Wang Jing’s purpose in bringing up ’Daughter Will Not Leave the Hall’.

But in the moment she understood, she also felt a bit embarrassed and annoyed.

Such dramas, Zhou Lan wouldn’t let Wang Jing take on.

But Wang Jing evidently had her own ideas now.

”This kind of drama...”

”There’s nothing wrong with this kind of drama, I think Sister Xiao Yun said something right, as long as the script is good, the role is well-played, and the audience likes it, it’s a good drama,” Wang Jing said, ”Sister Lan, I know my acting skills aren’t that great right now, I can’t always rest on ’Behind the Scenes’ to live off its success, if in these years I still don’t get good roles, I’ll just be wasting my time.”

Zhou Lan: ”Xiao Jing, if you act in ’Daughter Will Not Leave the Hall’, many will say your resources are downgraded, that this is a sign of you being washed-up, aren’t you worried?”

Wang Jing: ”Worried, but if I consistently have no roles to act in, only waiting, I don’t know when I’ll get to wait for a drama like ’Behind the Scenes’, Sister Lan, you know, it’s a rare chance.”

...

Recalling after the fact, Zhou Lan wasn’t surprised Wang Jing had such an attitude.

Simply because over the past months, Wang Jing hadn’t received any good roles, either supporting or cameo, a well-known actress spending most of her time waiting, it’s normal for her to feel anxious.
