I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 500: Chapter 499: The Same Name as Doctor Bei

Du Dingwei was not unwilling to talk about that magical experience, it’s just that he was once ridiculed for being delusional, and even joked about it, many of whom were juniors, his own descendants.

No matter how Beisitian got these words, it must have taken some thought. He could see the sincerity, it was definitely not just to listen for fun and then comment, laughing at his delusions.

So facing an audience who truly wanted to listen, Du Dingwei now wants to recount it again.

”Our regiment’s military doctor sacrificed at that time, with the artillery fire raging everywhere, nowhere was safe. We had two military doctors, both died in the process of transporting wounded soldiers, caught in the crossfire.”

Du Dingwei sighed and continued: ”Without military doctors, wounded comrades could only wait to die. Even though there were military doctors, most people still died, but there were always survivors, at least there was hope. You don’t know how important this hope is to a dying person in such circumstances!”

”The regiment urgently reported upwards, but each regiment lacked military doctors, ours were slow to arrive, and many comrades died like that.” As Du Dingwei said this, his voice lowered, and his mood also dipped.

After all, having experienced it personally, every time Du Dingwei narrated, he had to immerse himself in the memories, and the feelings of that time surged like the tide.

”Since the regiment never sent military doctors, our commander got anxious and decided to find some barefoot doctors nearby. No matter what, at least someone who understands medical skills, could not just watch brothers wasted away on the sickbed! But as you know, at that time on the front line, most nearby villages were deserted, even if not deserted, only old, weak, women, and children remained, where were doctors to be found, not even the barefoot ones in the village.”

”And then?” Beisitian felt he was about to reach the crux.

Du Dingwei picked up the half cigarette butt from the ashtray to light it, only for Ma Sanqiang to snatch it away, saying Doctor Bei was pregnant and couldn’t stand the smell of smoke, so Du Dingwei had to put out the cigarette.

”The girl also surnamed Bei, at that time when we found that elderly couple, the old gentleman was also surnamed Bei.” Du Dingwei said.

Beisitian’s pupils shrank slightly, she suddenly had a feeling that the elderly couple definitely had some connection to her.

”That elderly couple was found by our deputy commander, said they were doctors in the village, both husband and wife were doctors, the commander knew the older the doctor the better, immediately agreed, at least someone to bandage wounds was good. Unexpectedly, after they came, the mortality rate of the wounded greatly reduced!”

Du Dingwei coughed twice, glanced at the cigarette butt, craving a smoke, but held back for the sake of those two pieces of writing.

”Had I not also been wounded, who would pay attention to these things on the front line. I got a bullet in my thigh back then, had to find a way to dig it out otherwise the leg would be useless, but the regiment had no anesthetics left at all, supplies were tight, too many wounded soldiers, however much anesthetic would not be enough. I thought then, it can’t hurt to death, without a leg how to fight in the future!”

”Thinking this, decided to dig out the bullet without anesthetic, fortunately, Mr. Bei came over, otherwise I’d have truly been cut, Mr. Bei applied a layer of water beside my leg, I thought it was water, but once applied the leg went numb, quickly lost feeling, until Mr. Bei took the bullet out, felt nothing, afterwards drank a cup of clear water, in two days the wound got much better, could even walk, and in five days returned to the battlefield!”

”Mr. Bei and his wife had no other medicine, looked like old Chinese doctors, but never brewed medicine, had comrades drink only this clear water. Initially, some doubted, but those who drank quickly healed from external injuries, mortality rate significantly dropped, if not for this, with no medical supplies, no need for enemies to wear us out, we could wear ourselves out.”

Du Dingwei finished in one breath, then stared at Beisitian, every time reaching this part about clear water he’d hear ridicule, obviously not believed.

But Beisitian did not show any sign of doubt, instead she was in deep thought, which made Du Dingwei feel much better.

”Speaking of, after that battle, our commander specifically took people to that village wanting to thank Mr. Bei and his wife, but upon inquiry found they were never there! We later asked the deputy where he found them, he said he saw this elderly couple near the village, inquired and heard they were doctors, assumed they belonged to the village.”

At this, Du Dingwei felt it was incredible, ”They must’ve been sent by heaven to save our regiment, without them we’d be doomed!”

”So, in the end you didn’t know where that couple went?”

Du Dingwei nodded.

”Do you know their names?” Beisitian asked again.

”Mr. Bei seemed to be called Bei Tiancheng, as for the old lady’s name, I didn’t ask in detail.” Du Dingwei said, back then generally didn’t ask women’s names, usually referred to by the man’s surname.

Bei Tiancheng...

Having a name, plus Beisitian’s suspicion, it might be worth investigating, if Bei Tiancheng really relates to her, it explains the Bei Family producing a Mystic Doctor!

”Miss must be five months along, my granddaughter-in-law is about the same, a month ahead, you young folks shouldn’t fear eating, eat more, the bigger the child the better!” Du Dingwei smacked his lips, craving smoke again.

He didn’t have to give birth, naturally didn’t know the pain of childbirth, naturally thought the bigger the better.

Listening, Beisitian was in a daze, she’s not even three months yet, Du Dingwei’s comparison made her wonder if her belly truly was bigger than average?

Being a first-time bride, childbirth was originally a weak point for Beisitian, unable to see some changes or differences herself.

Looks like, really need to get examined, Professor Qiu mentioned, after three months, to get an ultrasound, pregnancy checks are rare now, Professor Qiu advocated widespread use to avoid issues like deformities, easing adults’ burden, saving children from lifelong pain.

With someone picking her up, Ma Sanqiang didn’t need to guide, leaving behind to drink with old comrades.

”What words are on the paper making you so excited?” asked Ma Sanqiang.

Du Dingwei laughed heartily, ”Making you learn a few words is like taking your life, this girl’s got talent, so much talent, these two pieces were written just for me, heading my name, see, Du Dingwei, signed by Wei Xiansan, this is Beisitian, one is a highly esteemed veteran in the calligraphy circle, one is a literary rising star!”

”Beisitian? Why does that name sound like Doctor Bei’s!”
