I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 454: Chapter 453: Privately Withholding Medicine

Qin Fengwang asked Luo Xinfang, ”Can I ask, did you seek out Dean Du because of the Tian Family matter?”

Luo Xinfang gave a wry smile, ”Isn’t that the case.”

Qin Fengwang said earnestly, ”I’ve been in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine for a long time, and I follow some news. Xinfang, you’ve been here for over a decade. Let me give you a word of advice: don’t get involved in this matter.”

He understood that the reason the Mei Family wanted to get an invitation from the Tian Family was not only to be acquainted with the Wei Family, but more importantly, to find out who it was that the Wei Family wanted to pass down their lineage and apprentice.

But since both the Tian and Wei families were keeping it a secret, and even an old classmate of his wouldn’t say anything, it wasn’t a simple matter, and the people involved weren’t simple either. The Mei Family getting involved was quite unwise.

Nevertheless, Qin Fengwang also understood that with the recent widespread rumors, many people were eager to know the person the Wei Family wanted to apprentice, hoping that perhaps someone in their own family might catch their eye, which would elevate their family’s status.

This kind of thinking was not uncommon, and the Mei Family was one of them.

Luo Xinfang sighed, ”I actually understand what you’re saying. Many people think the same way, but this opportunity is indeed slim. However, you also know, I’m just a daughter-in-law...”

Luo Xinfang’s difficulty lay in the fact that she was only a daughter-in-law of the Mei Family. Though her father-in-law allowed her to participate in family affairs, it was because of her connection to the Luo Family. Without that connection, she feared she would be nothing in the Mei Family.

Her father-in-law, Mei Zhiwei, never asked her to do anything. Now that he’s opened his mouth, she couldn’t simply refuse; she needed to consult Qin Fengwang.

Qin Fengwang understood Luo Xinfang’s predicament. After a word of advice, he didn’t say more. He didn’t want to offend the Mei Family, so he agreed, but merely to act as a go-between; whether it worked or not depended on his old classmate.

Beisitian sighed inwardly. From the looks of it, if not everyone, then at least those in the industry knew about it. Hearing them discuss this, she could only remain silent, feeling a bit awkward.

The next day, Jiang Yanmei came. She came to fetch medicine and didn’t need to make an appointment, so she came directly here.

”Doctor Xiao Bei, I’m here to get my medicine.” Jiang Yanmei said with a smile, entering Clinic 1.

Beisitian placed three small paper packets, each the size of a watch face, on the table and said, ”Take one packet each morning, mix with room temperature or cold water, continue for three days and observe the effects.”

If she had phenomena requiring a repelling charm, it would take at least three to five doses to have an effect. This effect, though not as good as what normal people absorb, was more effective than typical Western and Chinese medicine. Therefore, Beisitian asked her to try one course, which consisted of three packets.

Jiang Yanmei was taken aback at seeing the three small packets. She had taken five or six large bags of herbs, which had now been reduced to just three small packets?

Though she knew that the essence might have been concentrated, Jiang Yanmei was still very skeptical. Her problem was very stubborn, caused by her menstrual cycle. How could these three small packets have any effect?

”Doctor Xiao Bei, these three small packets, are they the herbs I brought back?” Jiang Yanmei couldn’t help but ask.

”Yes.” Beisitian replied.

Jiang Yanmei showed a bit of hesitation on her face. Even if you boiled those herbs ten more times, there couldn’t be so little left!

She felt she had wasted her money—those herbs cost quite a bit, and in the end, she only got this small amount.

Seeing the doubt on her face, Beisitian said, ”It’s not about quantity, but essence.”

Jiang Yanmei smiled, ”Just like you said, no matter how refined they are, I’ll take them home and try them first.” If it doesn’t work, she’ll come back for sure!

At the very least, she wanted to know where her herbs went; they couldn’t possibly just be reduced to this amount.

Not only was she skeptical, but so were Qin Fengwang, Zhou Wenwen, and others who were present. Liu Jing gave her a disdainful glance, thinking Beisitian had kept some of the herbs.

Some people take public resources for private gain. Beisitian kept the patient’s herbs for an entire night, only to return this small amount. What else could it be but skimming?

She found it odd at the time that the patient wasn’t allowed to take the herbs and had to leave them for her to process, making it so that she’d have the herbs to use without spending money. What a crafty plan, just like a parasite of socialism!

Jiang Yanmei actually thought much like Liu Jing, but she had no evidence and couldn’t say anything, so she just took the herbs home to see if they worked as Beisitian claimed.

After Jiang Yanmei left, Liu Jing immediately attacked. She said to Qin Fengwang, ”Master Qin, the herbs are bought by the patients themselves. They should take them right after they’re purchased. How can we process them for the patients? It goes against regulations, and as you’ve seen, Jiang Yanmei brought six large bags of herbs, but today she only got three small packets. If this continues, of course patients will doubt the Traditional Chinese Medicine department!”

Liu Jing lifted her chin slightly, speaking righteously, just short of accusing Beisitian of undermining socialism and exploiting its resources!

Qin Fengwang thought that perhaps things weren’t as everyone suspected. Beisitian wasn’t a fool; even if she were skimming, it wouldn’t be so obvious, practically asking for doubt.

”Xiao Liu, what’s gotten you so worked up? Let’s hear what Xiao Bei has to say.” Qin Fengwang gestured for Liu Jing to sit down.

Luo Xinfang and Zhou Wenwen hadn’t left either. Their expressions didn’t reveal what they were thinking.

Beisitian wasn’t affected by Liu Jing’s harsh words. She remained calm and said with a smile, ”I thought you were an experienced old Chinese doctor. I didn’t expect you to judge based on the amount of herbs.”

Liu Jing let out a cold snort, ”Don’t try to provoke me with words. I don’t target people, just the matter. Our Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic has never processed herbs for patients. You’re violating regulations, which will make patients question our clinic. As you can see, we already have few patients; if this continues, it will certainly lead to patient dissatisfaction. If this reaches the dean, he will surely criticize us for lack of supervision and not being responsible for newcomers. We, too, will be implicated!”

Beisitian took a sip of water. Just before speaking, she heard Liu Jing add, ”If you’re going to process herbs for patients, then you need to disclose your process to show that we’re fair and just!”

Upon hearing this, Beisitian laughed. Even if she revealed the Spiritual Talisman process, could they understand it?

Beisitian’s voice turned cold as she said calmly, ”You’re worried about the negative impact, right? Well, in that case, when Jiang Yanmei returns in three days, we’ll let her decide. If she no longer wants me to process her herbs, then I’ll have one less thing to do.”
