I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 495: Chapter 494: New Problems

Beisitian heard this and didn’t show any sign of joy, feeling that something about this statement was off, and beside her, Luo Xudong’s expression subtly shifted.

”Have you remembered everything?” Beisitian asked again.

Beidewang’s face froze with anger, then his eyes became dazed again, and he slumped into a chair, reverting to his previous demeanor.

Beisitian took two steps forward and tentatively called out, ”Father...”

To call him that felt awkward and stiff, yet she couldn’t bring herself to say ”dad” no matter what.

Beidewang raised his head and glanced at Beisitian, but without the previous reaction, his gaze soon appeared unfocused, as if looking at no one despite staring at Beisitian.

”It’s useless.” Luo Xudong pulled Beisitian back, not wanting her to get too close to Beidewang. Now that Beidewang was not clear-headed and had just reacted like that, he didn’t want Beisitian to get hurt.

Seeing this, Beisitian realized Luo Xudong was right and slowly retreated, finally turning around and walking out.

Just then, an orderly came and said that the old chief was awake and had asked for them.

Luo Xudong matched Beisitian’s pace, following every step, and the two of them went to Wu Yuekai’s study together.

Wu Yuekai was sipping tea. During this period, without needing the medicine, he could drink tea again. However, Beisitian still didn’t allow him to drink alcohol, so he only sneaked a sip when the traitor Li Xuejun wasn’t around!

”Girl, is it a boy or a girl?” Wu Yuekai asked with a grin.

Before Beisitian could speak, Li Xuejun replied expressionlessly, ”Old chief, it’s still too early to tell the gender.”

Wu Yuekai’s face sank, ”You seem to know quite clearly...” Just as Li Xuejun was about to proudly explain his understanding, Wu Yuekai added, ”Have you given birth?”

Li Xuejun’s face fell, turning red with frustration, biting his lip with a somewhat teeth-gritting expression, ”Old chief, I noticed the wine bottle had less wine this morning.”

Wu Yuekai’s smile stalled as he felt Beisitian’s gaze and coughed, pretending not to notice, saying, ”Xiao Li works pretty diligently. If you’re tired, hurry and rest.”

”Old man, you’ve been sneaking drinks again!” Beisitian arched an eyebrow.

Wu Yuekai’s face wrinkled into a tight bunch, mumbling, ”It’s my own wine, how can it be called sneaking...”

”So?”

”No, actually, I’m just too happy, becoming a grandfather~” Wu Yuekai chuckled, indeed happy, though sneaking drinks wasn’t due to happiness.

Wu Yuekai ultimately chose to consider the generation hierarchy on Beisitian’s side. In fact, it didn’t differ no matter whose side he considered.

”By the way, did you go to see Doctor Bei?” Wu Yuekai asked.

Beisitian knew he was changing the topic but didn’t pursue the previous matter any further, nodding, ”Yes, I did.”

”Improved a bit since before; he recognized me when I went in,” Wu Yuekai said.

Beisitian and Luo Xudong exchanged a glance, noting that Li Xuejun had gone some distance away, and spoke to Wu Yuekai about the previous incident.

Wu Yuekai frowned upon hearing this, ”It wasn’t you he saw!”

What Beidewang saw wasn’t Beisitian!

Both of them had this thought but hadn’t had a chance to say it earlier. Since it wasn’t Beisitian he saw, it could only have been Bei Jiale!

So...

”This suggests that you and Bei Jiale should be biological sisters from the same parents!” Wu Yuekai used a declarative sentence but had some doubts.

This hypothesis was deduced from Beidewang’s reaction to seeing Beisitian. After all, Beidewang had ’died’ when Beisitian was in her teens and couldn’t harbor such anger towards Beisitian.

If Bei Jiale and Beisitian were indeed sisters, it would make sense; they looked so alike—probably twins!

If they truly were twins, why was Beisitian the only one publicly acknowledged, and why did Bei Jiale never appear to the world, and even remain unknown, akin to a nonexistent person!

Truly nonexistent. Even though Beisitian’s mother Tian Meijun gave birth in Kao Village, no one knew of Bei Jiale’s existence. Because of this, investigations always showed that Beidewang and Tian Meijun had only one daughter—Beisitian!

”If we assume this, then many things can be explained,” Wu Yuekai stated.

Luo Xudong also remarked, ”This assumption seems highly plausible.”

Although Beidewang only said a brief sentence, its impact was strong. Since no matter how they investigated, Beidewang was known to have only one child, their direction had been skewed. Now, with such a possibility, many things started to make sense.

They had also been investigating the Bei family members, harboring suspicions. Regardless of how similar cousins might be, they couldn’t be identical, leaving only the possibility of twins, identical twins, who could be exactly the same.

What remained unknown was why Beidewang had hidden Bei Jiale, and for what purpose he chose to do so. All three thought this was crucial; if they understood the reason, many mysteries could be unraveled.

Beisitian, in the memories of the original owner, had experienced paternal love; Beidewang truly cared for Beisitian. Even though he made a poor decision in finding her a stepmother, he still protected her in crucial matters.

This indicated that Beidewang cared about his children. Since this was the case, with two children being the same, why choose to let one ’not exist’? Where was the other child raised all these years, who raised her, what happened, and why did Bei Jiale become a Mystic Doctor and even master Spiritual Talisman, causing such anger in Beidewang towards his daughter?

The more they discussed, the more they realized the problems hadn’t lessened but had instead increased. However, they had at least made some progress, which was something positive.

”Even though there are many issues, let’s tackle them one by one. Right now, nurturing your pregnancy is the priority; everything else follows. Your father’s problem can’t be solved overnight, so there’s no need to rush. Xudong, keep a close eye on Bei Jiale. If you notice any trace of her, track it immediately. Finding out the time, place, and purpose of appearance would be ideal,” Wu Yuekai advised.

Luo Xudong nodded in agreement, knowing he wouldn’t allow anything threatening to disturb Beisitian. Pregnancy, in itself, was a demanding process, and he wanted to avoid adding any burden.

Beisitian also wished to create a safe environment for her soon-to-be-born child. Her biggest breakthrough would be curing Beidewang as progress had been made.

With progress in Beidewang’s condition, it was time for her to switch his medication.
