I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 498: Chapter 497: Preferences

Beisitian gently touched her already slightly bulging belly; it seemed to be a bit larger than others’. Had she eaten too much?

She still paid close attention to controlling her food intake, fearing that she might not be able to control it later. With her figure, wearing slightly loose clothes, it wouldn’t have been noticeable that she was pregnant in the first three months, but now her belly was already showing.

Beisitian decided to slightly reduce her food intake from now on and to eat more nutritious foods to ensure the child receives sufficient nutrition, making delivery easier.

Beisitian inadvertently noticed Zhao Yilun revealing some clues, and when Wu Yuekai investigated, he actually found some issues.

Zhao Yilun had arrived a month before Beisitian entered the 232 Military District Hospital, with an extremely impressive resume, but all of it was from overseas, he was a returnee.

Not mentioning anything else, even the timing was coincidentally enough to make Wu Yuekai laugh, and luckily, because of this matter, they discovered some clues. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been on guard against Zhao Yilun at all, which would have been truly scary.

In the afternoon, Beisitian returned to the Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic, where Ma Sanqiang was already waiting. Now Jiang Yanmei and Ma Sanqiang, these two stubborn patients, specifically came to see Beisitian. Ma Sanqiang indeed had some health issues, but Jiang Yanmei sometimes visited just because she was bored and had nothing to do.

Jiang Yanmei came over occasionally, and once she inadvertently learned that Beisitian was knowledgeable about health maintenance, she started asking for advice repeatedly.

It is somewhat late to take care of oneself in old age, but it’s better than doing nothing at all. Now Jiang Yanmei’s menopause symptoms have significantly lessened, her daily mood is different, and her attitude toward matters has also changed. Her family is fairly well-off, steadily moving toward a moderately prosperous life. Who wouldn’t want to enjoy good times more often, and thus she started paying attention to it.

Ma Sanqiang came this time not just to get medicine, but Beisitian also wanted to meet his old comrade.

Now she was collecting all information regarding Mystic Doctor, especially since the earliest civilian contact was through Ma Sanqiang’s comrade.

However, this comrade had an odd temper, making things difficult for Ma Sanqiang, who was grateful to Beisitian for treating his ailment. For so many years, no treatment had worked until Beisitian’s few prescriptions showed effect. He wanted to repay Beisitian, and repaying meant fulfilling immediate needs.

But, unfortunately, his old comrade was stubborn beyond belief, to the point of making people gnash their teeth, wishing to pry open his head to see what it consisted of.

If he didn’t want to meet someone, no amount of persuasion would work; he wouldn’t give anyone face.

His old comrade was of a captain rank, not a high rank, but with a big bad temper, and he kept muttering about what a decrepit man could discuss with a young girl.

Ma Sanqiang realized that his comrade was unwilling to casually divulge that experience, thinking Beisitian only wanted to meet out of curiosity or for gossip.

To Ma Sanqiang’s comrade, that experience was a precious and rare memory, and he didn’t want it to be treated lightly.

Ma Sanqiang, of course, explained this; however, his comrade had made up his mind and wouldn’t be swayed.

Ma Sanqiang chuckled wryly, ”Doctor Bei, I truly apologize, my comrade’s brain was probably damaged by a cannon, he stubbornly refuses to agree, sigh...”

He genuinely wanted to help Beisitian; after all, it wasn’t that big of a deal, just meeting up and talking about experiences at that time, what’s the issue with that?

Back then, he chased them down to tell the story when no one wanted to listen, and now that someone wants to hear it, he’s acting like this, leaving Ma Sanqiang quite frustrated.

Beisitian was less upset than Ma Sanqiang and smiled upon hearing this, ”Does Mr. Du have any hobbies?”

”He does, Old Du is fond of calligraphy and literature, posing as a cultured person. I heard he even imitates others by attending some forums, not afraid of biting off more than he can chew.” Ma Sanqiang mocked at first.

”But indeed, Old Du is somewhat literate, I heard him say he used to be a student at some school in Shanghai, even graduated from high school! As a child, there was a private tutor in his town, and he practiced calligraphy; whether that’s true or not, I don’t know.”

Beisitian was slightly surprised, as a high school graduate in that era was quite something, and if the calligraphy was practiced from a young age, it must have been quite decent.

What intrigued Beisitian was hearing Du Dingwei attended forums, indicating he must have some capabilities, as forums weren’t typically spontaneously organized.

”Could you help me find out whose calligraphy Mr. Du fancies?” Beisitian suggested with a smile.

If it was something accessible, she would try to find some, but if they were genuine relics of ancient celebrities, it would be challenging for her.

Generally, it wouldn’t require relics of ancient celebrities, as those are rare and sought after; even if one actually had such a relic, it couldn’t be casually given away just to hear a story.

Ma Sanqiang really wanted to help Beisitian, nodded promptly after hearing this, ”No problem, just finding out whose calligraphy he likes is simple.”

Beisitian handed the prescription to Ma Sanqiang, instructing him to get the medicine; currently, he didn’t need talismanic water for adjustments, only needed to decoct the medication according to the ancient prescription.

Initially, Beisitian wanted to compose some ancient prescriptions, but due to being pregnant, this was postponed. She could write them when she has the time since it would be a pity if these ancient prescriptions were lost.

After Ma Sanqiang left, Qin Fengwang said with a smile, ”Doctor Bei has really resolved many issues for us, these two are particularly difficult to handle patients, yet Doctor Bei managed them with ease.”

Qin Fengwang held high regard for Beisitian and continued, ”If Associate Professor Zheng knew Doctor Bei had knowledge of ancient prescriptions, I’m afraid someone would end up looking for you.”

Beisitian paused, asking why.

”The Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Institute has always been collecting ancient prescriptions passed down among the people, some even purchased at high prices.”

Qin Fengwang’s remarks were also a reminder to Beisitian that if she didn’t want others to know about her possession of ancient prescriptions, she should keep a low profile; otherwise, if researchers found out, peace might be hard to come by.

Being an old Chinese doctor, he valued legacy more, disapproving of casually spreading one’s heritage. Although he knew these things wouldn’t be lost once the state recorded them, he couldn’t quite reconcile it emotionally.

”Thank you, Master Qin, for the reminder!” Beisitian expressed her sincere gratitude, aware of his good intentions.

Shortly after leaving, Ma Sanqiang returned; it turned out he hadn’t gone home, directly going to Du Dingwei to inquire. There wasn’t much to hide in such matters, so Du Dingwei promptly told him. He even agreed to recount the experience in its entirety to Beisitian if she could truly bring him these two individuals’ calligraphy.

”Whose?” Beisitian asked.

”One is called Wei Xiansan, and the other seems to share a surname with you, writing Xiaokai script.”
