I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 477: Chapter 476: Infighting

Old Mrs. Luo prepared a lot of things to say, but Beisitian’s one sentence ’Alright’ blocked them all in her heart. She opened her mouth but dared not be happy immediately, fearing that with Beisitian’s stubborn nature, more words would follow!

Sure enough, Beisitian said, ”Then when the time comes, Grandma can come along with Father and Mother, and if Xudong is available, he can pick you up.”

Ever since Qin Hongmei answered the phone, she had been staring intently at Old Mrs. Luo’s expression. Beisitian’s voice wasn’t loud, and even if she tried hard, Qin Hongmei couldn’t hear from the side.

Under Qin Hongmei’s gaze, Old Mrs. Luo unconsciously added, ”And your Uncle’s family!”

There was a pause on the other side, then she asked, ”Why Uncle’s family too?”

”You’ve all developed so well and are living good lives now, shouldn’t you take your Uncle’s family along? Have you forgotten your Uncle and Qiangzi’s help, always helping with moving furniture, helping build houses?”

Upon hearing this, Qin Hongmei felt quite satisfied, her face softening considerably.

Then Beisitian on the other side said, ”So we also have to provide for them in old age?”

”Of course!” Old Mrs. Luo quickly added.

”Doesn’t Xu Qiang have the ability to take care of them?”

Old Mrs. Luo was choked by this question and suddenly found herself speechless. Yes, the eldest son’s family already has sons and grandsons; they can’t possibly let the nephews and nieces-in-law take care of them!

Beisitian didn’t want to hear any more senseless words from Old Mrs. Luo and continued, ”Xudong and I have just been in the Capital City for a month. We’ve gone through many connections and spent a lot of money to get Ping’an’s household registration resolved. We can’t handle one more person...”

Before she finished speaking, Old Mrs. Luo urgently shouted, ”He’s still a little child, a baby, why register his household now! I’m already old, raising both the young and the old, shouldn’t I enjoy some peace first!”

There is a huge difference between rural and urban people, and an even bigger one between outsiders and those from the Capital City. Entering the city doesn’t mean you are a city person. Old Mrs. Luo understood this very well, and when she heard they could register in the Capital City, her heart almost jumped out!

Beisitian’s expression remained indifferent; she simply looked down on Old Mrs. Luo’s selfishness, but the words still needed to be said.

”Indeed, I didn’t think Grandma would want to come before. If Grandma wants to come, we can register Grandma’s household, but there’s only one slot, and there isn’t really space at home. Father and Mother coming already makes it crowded, and if Uncle and Xu Qiang’s families also came, we’d have problems even with daily meals.” Beisitian said.

Old Mrs. Luo’s eyes flashed; she knew Beisitian might not have good intentions, yet she couldn’t refute her words. What she initially thought was fine, but after Beisitian spoke, she realized the couple had only been in the Capital City for a month; how capable could they be?

Just being able to get one household registration already made Old Mrs. Luo look at them differently, fearing they might be trying to deceive her. Let alone arranging jobs and buying houses for the eldest and Xu Qiang. She’d deal with those matters once she was there, gradually.

Old Mrs. Luo made a decision in her heart, inadvertently glanced at Qin Hongmei beside her.

Qin Hongmei’s newly softened expression chilled halfway upon seeing Old Mrs. Luo’s glance. She knew things wouldn’t be so smooth, but with this crafty old lady around, she believed the young couple wouldn’t dare ignore them. Having finally gone to a place like the Capital City, they would certainly care about their reputation.

Old Mrs. Luo’s eyes flickered, her face expressionless as she said, ”Alright, alright, let it be. I’m hanging up now.”

Hearing this, Qin Hongmei became anxious. She still didn’t know what was going on, hurriedly tried to grab the phone, shouting, ”Don’t hang up! I still want to say a few words to Little Tian’er!”

Though she snatched the receiver, Old Mrs. Luo had already pressed the disconnect button with her other hand, leaving Qin Hongmei to only hear the beeping tone angrily as she slammed the phone down.

”Hey, what’s the matter with you? What if you break the phone?” The woman from the supply and sales cooperative threw aside her dark blue arm sleeves and was about to argue with Qin Hongmei.

Feeling guilty, Qin Hongmei saw that this woman was not easy to talk to, glared back, snorted coldly, and quickly pulled Old Mrs. Luo away.

On the road, Qin Hongmei’s thoughts shifted, realizing that during those few words, Old Mrs. Luo must have reached some agreement with Beisitian. No need to think, Beisitian must’ve agreed to take Old Mrs. Luo to the Capital City, but surely wouldn’t take their whole family!

”Mom, what did Little Tian’er say?” Qin Hongmei asked, closely watching Old Mrs. Luo’s expression, fearing she wouldn’t be truthful.

Old Mrs. Luo’s small eyes sparkled, lowering her gaze to avoid Qin Hongmei’s scrutiny, pondering how to explain to the couple.

She knew her eldest son also wanted to take this opportunity to move back to the city.

”We’ll talk about this back home, call Aiguo back, discuss it together, so I don’t have to say it twice.” said Old Mrs. Luo.

Upon hearing this, Qin Hongmei’s heart sank. Just as she suspected, Beisitian probably agreed to let Old Mrs. Luo go. No way, this must be Beisitian’s ploy, to create division among them!

Yet, even saying this, seeing Old Mrs. Luo’s manner, she’s really tempted. Qin Hongmei is furious, even if she doesn’t care about me, she should care for her son, her grandson! Having raised this shrewd old lady for so long, now just a few deceptive words and she wants to leave behind the whole family, dust herself off, and go!

Qin Hongmei secretly vowed, if they can go to the Capital City, they’d better throw this old lady to the second family’s care once settled there, and whether she lives or dies, they’d have nothing to do with it!

Back home, Qin Hongmei sat on the kang cracking sunflower seeds, not offering any kernels to Old Mrs. Luo. Seeing that Old Mrs. Luo didn’t curse and swear as usual, it further affirmed her thoughts.

Before long, Luo Aiguo and Luo Xuqiang returned, Bai Jinfeng also sat with the child on the kang, she really didn’t want to be involved, knowing from today’s atmosphere, there might soon be a good fight.

”Mom, just say it.” Luo Aiguo said.

Qin Hongmei also stopped cracking seeds, leaning against the pillow stack, thinking about the old shrew’s upcoming words, brewing a storm within.

”I’ve just found out, Xudong and his wife have only been in the Capital City for a month, haven’t settled yet, now they say they want to take his father, mother, and me to live there...”

Old Mrs. Luo hadn’t finished before Qin Hongmei, already brewing, wouldn’t agree, ”What about us? Those two ungrateful brats won’t care about their Uncle’s family?”

Old Mrs. Luo was displeased by the interruption; coupled with the wasted sunflower seeds, she was even unhappier, glaring, ”Have some dignity, won’t you? Qiangzi is so grown, do you intend for your nephew to take care of you?”

She used Beisitian’s words against Qin Hongmei.

”That’s not how it is. Whenever there’s trouble in their house, Aiguo and Qiangzi are always the ones rushing to help, whether moving furniture or building houses!” Qin Hongmei retorted, using Old Mrs. Luo’s own words against her.
