Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Chapter 98: Chapter 84 I, Wang Meili, am yours now.

Seeing the startled Zhao Rong, the village beauty, Wang Meili, pulled him into a hug. She gently kissed his forehead and said through her tears, ”Benefactor, you are my benefactor... Don’t be afraid. I’m not a ghost, I’m a person. I’m someone who struggled back from the brink of death.”

Seeing Wang Meili truly alive and even kissing him, Zhao Rong couldn’t believe his eyes. ”Impossible,” he said. ”The Revitalizing Pills made by others couldn’t save you. How could mine actually bring you back to life?”

Of course, what Zhao Rong didn’t know was that Wang Meili’s resurrection wasn’t due to the Revitalizing Pill, but because of the Dragon Crystal he was carrying. The Dragon Crystal grew strong when faced with weakness, and stronger still when faced with power. When the energy-filled crystal sensed a weak or dying person nearby, it would actively intervene to heal them. Therefore, Zhao Rong saving Wang Meili was nothing more than a fortunate accident.

Wang Meili looked at Zhao Rong and kissed his cheek again. ”Benefactor, it was your Revitalizing Pill that saved me...”

When the surrounding villagers heard that the Revitalizing Pill Zhao Rong had concocted in a pressure cooker had miraculously saved Wang Meili, they burst into a wave of enthusiastic applause. The men and women who had been mocking him just moments before began slapping their own faces, regretting their ridicule of Divine Doctor Zhao Rong.

The woman who had been cracking sunflower seeds spoke to Zhao Rong apologetically. ”Zhao Rong, you’re practically a god in our village! Only a Revitalizing Pill made by you could have saved Wang Meili...”

The village girl who loved to gossip and stir up trouble marveled at his skills. ”Young man, your medical abilities are simply brilliant! you could definitely surpass any top-notch doctor in our city.”

Even the woman with the perpetually runny nose chimed in, heaping praise upon him. ”Young man, I see it now. You’re not just handsome and distinguished, your medical skills are comparable to the legendary Divine Doctor Sun Simiao.”

Listening to the praise from all around, Zhao Rong responded humbly, ”Thank you all for your kind words. I, Zhao Rong, will continue to do my utmost to heal the sick and save lives.”

At this moment, the most emotional person was, without a doubt, Wang Meili’s mother. She immediately pulled her daughter down to kneel before Zhao Rong. While thanking him profusely, she declared, ”Divine Doctor, since you saved my daughter, then from now on, she is yours...”

The village beauty, Wang Meili, also thanked him. ”Divine Doctor, if you wouldn’t be offended, I am willing to work like an ox or a horse for you, serving you for the rest of my life...”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong was stunned. Damn, how did my fantasy suddenly become reality?

Faced with this sudden marriage proposal from Wang Meili and her mother, Zhao Rong was still reeling. He helped them both to their feet and said, ”Auntie, Meili, I’m truly happy from the bottom of my heart that I could save you. But as for marriage... don’t you think we’re being a bit hasty?”

Wang Meili’s mother paid him no mind. ”Young man, we mustn’t delay! Good things come in pairs. Tonight, we’ll hold a wedding for you and Wang Meili, and then we’ll send you both to the bridal chamber...”

Zhao Rong was vehemently against the idea of a wedding. Hearing the words ”bridal chamber,” however, stirred a sense of longing within him. After all, at twenty years old, Zhao Rong was still a virgin. Though he had never experienced that particular pleasure, he certainly yearned for it. He was a man, after all, a young man with surging male hormones.

When the assistant standing nearby heard that Zhao Rong could enter the bridal chamber with Wang Meili that very night, his eyes went wide with envy. ”Zhao Rong, this is a golden opportunity! You have to take it! An opportunity like this won’t come knocking twice.”

Obviously, if the assistant were in Zhao Rong’s shoes, he would have chosen to marry Wang Meili in a heartbeat and enter the bridal chamber. After all, Wang Meili was truly, breathtakingly beautiful.

Just as the crowd was eagerly awaiting Zhao Rong’s answer, he made an excuse about desperately needing to pee and bolted out the door.

Having escaped from Wang Meili’s house, Zhao Rong let out a long sigh of relief. ”Whew, thank goodness I got out of there. Otherwise, I would have been roped into marrying Wang Meili tonight for sure.”

Just as Zhao Rong was celebrating his quick escape, he turned around and came face to face with Wang Meili, who had chased after him.

Looking at the girl who had caught up to him, he said in surprise, ”Whoa, how did you run so fast?”

Wang Meili didn’t want him to leave. ”Brother Zhao Rong, I know you don’t want to stay in our village. It’s a place that would only limit your potential. But... if you’re planning to leave for greater things, can you take me with you?”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong froze. To be honest, I really do want to take Wang Meili to the Zhenwu Gate to cultivate with me. But if I did, would those three beauties who have a crush on me—Lili, Yu Lan, and Xuelian—let me off the hook? Would they even spare Wang Meili?

Thinking this, he came up with an excuse. ”Meili, there’s something you don’t know. The place where I cultivate is full of men, with no women at all. You know what those places are like—far too many men and not nearly enough women. If you went, I honestly couldn’t protect you...”

Having said his piece, Zhao Rong was confident this beautiful lie would scare her off. To his surprise, however, Wang Meili showed no signs of backing down. She looked at him, her eyes brimming with emotion.

”Brother Zhao Rong, even if every man in the world desired me, I would only desire you, and you alone.

”Even if one day you lose everything and become a beggar...

”Even if one day you become disabled...

”Even if one day you suddenly grow old...

”I would still follow you without a moment’s hesitation...

”Marry you...

”Bear your children...

”And take care of you...”

Her words moved Zhao Rong to his core. Barely able to contain his emotion, he said, ”Meili, I know you can’t bear for us to part. But I’m a cultivator. I have to pursue my path and can’t be tied down by romance. So... could you wait for me? Wait until I’ve reached level twenty. I’ll come back for you then, and we can go out and see the world together.”

At his words, Wang Meili looked at him with deep affection. ”Brother Zhao Rong, I know you’re a man with great ambition and a strong drive to succeed, one who isn’t swayed by the charms of women. Since you are such an ambitious man, I, Wang Meili, must not hold you back. Go, Brother Zhao Rong. Bravely pursue your cultivation. I won’t be a chain on your path of cultivation and leveling up. I’ll just wait for you to reach level twenty and come back to take me away from this village...”

With that, she hugged him and began to cry softly.

Zhao Rong comforted her, ”Meili, believe me. I will come back.” He gently wiped the tears from her cheeks and then placed a soft, tender kiss on her forehead.

Just then, his assistant managed to escape from the yard as well. When he saw Zhao Rong kissing Wang Meili, his eyes nearly popped out of his head.

”Damn it!” he muttered resentfully. ”How’d they get to kissing so fast? Everyone says Zhao Rong is a Divine Doctor... If you ask me, he’s a divine pick-up artist! Look at that, in no time at all, he’s managed to charm another kind-hearted, sweet, and adorable girl, Wang Meili.”

At the same time, the assistant couldn’t help but sigh. He was a man, too. Why was the gap between them so vast?

When it was time to part ways, Wang Meili walked Zhao Rong and his assistant to the village entrance. Only after their silhouettes had completely vanished into the night did she turn back, wiping her tears as she headed home.

Once they were out of the village, Zhao Rong’s tense nerves finally settled. He was relieved he had managed to escape. Otherwise, he might have really ended up spending the rest of his life in that village, marrying, having children, and living a simple life of farming and weaving. While such a life had its charms, it wasn’t the life he wanted.

Just as Zhao Rong was reflecting on how he had once again stumbled into an encounter with a beautiful woman, his phone suddenly rang. It was Fatty.

Zhao Rong quickly answered.

Fatty’s anxious voice came through the phone. ”Brother Zhao Rong, when are you coming back? Lili, Yu Lan, and Xuelian are looking for you all over campus!”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong was bewildered. ”Fatty, didn’t you find a body double for me? Why are the three of them still looking?”

Fatty replied awkwardly, ”Brother Zhao Rong, the body double was exposed! Please come back quickly. If you don’t get back soon, I think those three will dig three feet into the ground to find you.”

Hearing that his double had been discovered, Zhao Rong’s heart sank. I’m screwed...
