Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Chapter 69: Chapter 61: Helping the Beauty Level Up, Demoting the Ugly Man

Just as Zhao Rong was sneaking a peek at Tao Hua, he was discovered.

Angry, she slapped him on the chest. ”Brother Zhao Rong, you’re so bad! You tricked me.”

Realizing he had been found out, Zhao Rong quickly sat up. He pretended to be completely oblivious, saying, ”I had a long, terrifying dream... What just happened? Why don’t I feel anything?” As he spoke, he wiped the sweat from his forehead and continued, ”It turns out I was having a nightmare.”

Hearing this, Tao Hua considered it. A person having a nightmare really wasn’t much different from someone who was unconscious.

Zhao Rong continued his act. ”Not only was I having a nightmare, but I dreamt of a demon clinging to my body... I couldn’t break free, no matter what I did... Just when I felt I was done for, an angel in white suddenly descended from the heavens and saved me... Then, I woke up...” He then needlessly added, ”But I really don’t know what happened just now.”

Standing beside him, Tao Hua took his earnest words seriously and immediately apologized. ”Brother Zhao Rong, I thought you were playing dead to get me to kiss you... It seems I misjudged you.” With that, she began to gently caress the spot on his chest where she had hit him.

Hearing this, Zhao Rong chuckled inwardly. Thank goodness for my quick wits. If the three of them had found out I was faking sleep to get a kiss from Tao Hua, I would’ve been in for it.

While Zhao Rong was still maintaining a blank expression, Lili spoke up jealously from the side. ”Brother Zhao Rong, you have no idea. While you were having that nightmare, Tao Hua gave you mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong feigned ignorance. ”What? Someone gave me mouth-to-mouth? I didn’t feel a thing.”

Xuelian chimed in, ”Brother Zhao Rong, if you ever have a nightmare again, I’ll save you too, and give you mouth-to-mouth.”

Yu Lan went even further. ”Brother Zhao Rong, if you have a nightmare, not only will I give you mouth-to-mouth, but I’ll also offer you my body...”

Listening to the three of them, Zhao Rong thought to himself, Looks like I’ll have to have a few more nightmares in the future.

At this moment, Tao Hua suddenly grew curious about what exactly happened the previous night when Zhao Rong had transferred True Qi. She looked at him and asked, ”Zhao Rong, did you really use the Dragon Crystal last night to transfer your True Qi to the three of them?”

Zhao Rong replied confidently, ”Tao Hua, not only did I transfer True Qi to them... I’m certain I helped them level up.”

Hearing this, Tao Hua said incredulously, ”Really? So which one of them did you help level up?” As she spoke, she thought, For a level-fifteen cultivator like Zhao Rong, spending a whole night to help one girl level up would already be quite impressive.

But what Tao Hua didn’t expect was for Zhao Rong to point at the three girls and say, ”Tao Hua, I think I helped all three of them level up at once.”

Tao Hua’s jaw dropped. ”What? You helped all three of them level up in one night?” She couldn’t help but think, That’s a feat that only a cultivator over level twenty, like myself, could accomplish... How could a level-fifteen cultivator like Zhao Rong possibly do it?

So, Tao Hua swallowed hard and pressed him further. ”Even if you helped all three of them level up, I assume they each only went up half a level, right?” Again, she thought to herself, Even with my abilities as a level-twenty cultivator, I could at most help each of them go up one level in a single night... No matter how strong Zhao Rong is, he couldn’t possibly surpass me, could he?

However, to Tao Hua’s surprise, Lili sensed her own cultivation level and exclaimed with excitement, ”No way! I went up two levels last night... Does this mean I’m now a level-five cultivator?”

At the same time, Yu Lan and Xuelian also sensed their cultivation levels. They said in unison, ”Whoa, I also went up two levels! I’m a level-five cultivator too!”

When Tao Hua heard that Zhao Rong, a complete novice at transferring True Qi, had achieved double her projected results in the same amount of time, she was stunned.

She looked at Zhao Rong in utter disbelief. ”Zhao Rong, you... you really helped all three of them go up two levels in a single night? That’s incredible. I’m completely impressed.” After speaking, she quietly reflected, It’s true what they say—the student has surpassed the master. It seems that Zhao Rong, with his exceptional talent and unique constitution, will one day surpass my own cultivation level.

Just as the three girls were hugging and joyously celebrating their sudden advancement from level three to level five, the assistant who had been eavesdropping at the door suddenly entered. He grinned cheekily at Zhao Rong. ”Zhao Rong, since you helped each of them go up two levels, how about you help me go up two levels as well?” He then looked at Zhao Rong with hopeful eyes.

When the three celebrating beauties heard the assistant trying to get in on the action, they were very displeased. Lili looked at him and said, ”Brother Zhao Rong was busy all night helping the three of us level up, and you have the nerve to ask him to help you too? Are you even human?”

Yu Lan also scolded him. ”People have hearts. Brother Zhao Rong has been working hard all night, and you want him to keep going? You’re nothing but an animal.”

Xuelian jumped to Zhao Rong’s defense. ”Assistant, if you’re a man, you should cultivate on your own instead of trying to ride Brother Zhao Rong’s coattails. After all, it’s not easy for him to help others level up.”

Hearing their rebukes, the assistant felt a pang of bitterness. He lowered his head and mumbled dejectedly, ”I came to Zhenwu Gate to cultivate with all of you. Every day, you get to attend classes and practice in the cultivation hall... What about me? I have only one job, and that’s cleaning the toilets...”

When the assistant had joined Zhenwu Gate, his qualifications were insufficient, so he had voluntarily taken on the task of cleaning toilets just to get in. He originally thought that trading toilet duty for a chance to cultivate at Zhenwu Gate was a stroke of incredible luck, like a pie falling from the sky. However, he had not anticipated just how many toilets there were, nor how difficult the dry toilets would be to clean. As a result, ever since joining, he’d had no time to study or cultivate, spending all his energy on sanitation.

Although the three girls didn’t want Zhao Rong to exert himself further for the assistant, the kind-hearted Zhao Rong looked at the man’s pitiful state and said, ”Alright. I’ve already worked all night, so I can manage one more day to help you level up by two.”

Hearing that Zhao Rong had agreed, the assistant was overjoyed. ”Brother Zhao Rong, I, your assistant, am so grateful! I don’t even know how to express my thanks.”

Hearing this older man also call Zhao Rong ”Brother Zhao Rong,” the three girls bristled with annoyance. ”Assistant, don’t try to act young. You’re seven or eight years older than him, yet you’re calling him brother? Have you no shame?”

Yu Lan added, ”Assistant, ’Brother Zhao Rong’ is what we call him. You don’t have the right. Got it?”

Xuelian was even more direct. ”Assistant, you can call him Zhao Rong, but you absolutely cannot add the word ’brother’.”

Seeing the assistant’s pathetic expression, Zhao Rong stepped in. ”Alright, all of you, head out. I’ll get this over with and use the Dragon Crystal to transfer some True Qi to the assistant and help him level up.” With that, Zhao Rong closed the door and began the process.

After a full day of effort, Zhao Rong finally felt he had succeeded. He stood up, patted the assistant on the shoulder, and said, ”Assistant, the transfer is complete. If everything went well, you should have gone directly from level one to level three.”

At these words, the assistant replied happily, ”Zhao Rong, thank you so much.” He then chuckled to himself. Reaching level three is fantastic! As long as I’m level three, I can jump onto that three-meter-high platform and peek at Yu Lan while she’s bathing!

It turned out the assistant’s desperation to level up was all so he could jump onto the smooth, tiled platform and spy on Yu Lan in the bath. While the assistant was smirking to himself, Zhao Rong told him, ”Well? Stand up, walk around a bit. Feel the power of your new level.”

Zhao Rong eagerly anticipated that the assistant, now at level three, would be stronger and faster. However, to his surprise, when the assistant stood up, his legs felt like jelly. Leaning against the wall with trembling legs, he stammered, ”Zhao Rong, why is it that after reaching level three, my legs don’t feel stronger? I can barely even stand.”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong thought, I already helped the three girls level up, so I should be able to help the assistant in front of me, too. He comforted the man, saying, ”Don’t worry. I think it’s because you were sitting cross-legged for too long and your legs went numb... It’s normal to feel weak when you first stand up.”

Relieved by Zhao Rong’s explanation, the assistant thought, Yu Lan, you just wait. Every night when you step into the bathroom, an eye will be watching you. His mind was already drifting into fantasy.

However, as the assistant tried to walk out, he stumbled and fell to the ground. At that moment, he felt he didn’t even have the strength to get back up. Feeling utterly powerless and weak all over, he asked, ”Zhao Rong, are you sure you leveled me up?”

Zhao Rong nodded. ”Of course. Why would I help you level down? I, Zhao Rong, am not that shameless, am I?”

Just then, Tao Hua walked over from a nearby room. She was puzzled to see the assistant, who was supposed to have just been leveled up by Zhao Rong, crawling out of the room. As she got closer, she took in his pale face, cracked lips, and feeble state, and she instinctively sensed his cultivation level.

To her astonishment, the assistant hadn’t leveled up at all. In fact, he had even lost the single level he had originally cultivated. Suddenly, Tao Hua’s eyes widened. She looked at the assistant and declared, ”Assistant, not only did you not level up, you’ve actually been downgraded to negative-one.”

Then she turned to Zhao Rong. ”Zhao Rong, you didn’t just fail to help the assistant level up. You absorbed the only level of True Qi he had in his body.”

Hearing this, the assistant and Zhao Rong stared at each other, their eyes wide with shock.
