Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Chapter 85: Chapter 74: You Have a Large Medicine Cauldron, I Have a Pressure Cooker_2

After speaking, Johnny turned his head and glanced at Zhao Rong, finding him still sitting unhurriedly beside the pressure cooker, showing no signs of progress.

When the students heard that Johnny had successfully concocted the Elixir, they all looked over.

A student with a braided ponytail lamented for Zhao Rong, ”Alas, our school’s hero, Zhao Rong, is really going to be defeated by Johnny this time.”

A bald student sighed and said, ”It’s obvious. Zhao Rong has lost. Johnny is about to open the large medicine cauldron to retrieve the Elixir, while Zhao Rong is still just waiting.”

At that moment, just as everyone was favoring Johnny and writing Zhao Rong off, Zhao Rong’s pressure cooker suddenly exploded violently.

With a BANG, the pressure cooker burst apart.

Due to the immense force of the explosion, both Johnny and his large medicine cauldron were sent flying. The previously dignified Johnny had sported a slick, side-parted hairstyle. Now, not only were his clothes torn to shreds, but his hair had also been blasted into an afro. His large medicine cauldron was overturned on the ground, its contents spilling everywhere.

In stark contrast to Johnny’s miserable state, Zhao Rong sat unflinching and completely unharmed not far from the cooker. He picked up a large, bright red Elixir from the ground and exclaimed excitedly, ”Could this Elixir be the fruit of my very first attempt at alchemy?”

With that, Zhao Rong pinched the Elixir he had created in his pressure cooker between his thumb and forefinger and held it up to the sunlight. Instantly, the Elixir glittered with a dazzling light, astonishing everyone.

The crowd was stunned. Johnny, who should have succeeded, was left disfigured by the explosion. Meanwhile, Zhao Rong, who was expected to fail, was now holding a successfully refined upgrade Elixir. Everyone gasped in amazement.

The student with the braided ponytail stared wide-eyed and said incredulously, ”No way! Zhao Rong actually succeeded in alchemy!”

The bald student’s jaw dropped in shock. ”Huh? How is that possible? The best Alchemist in our entire school was just defeated by Zhao Rong, who has zero alchemy experience.”

As the students gasped in amazement at Zhao Rong, they also began to jeer at Alchemist Johnny.

Hearing the jeers, Johnny climbed up from the ground and stared dumbfounded at Zhao Rong holding the Elixir. ”You brat,” he stammered, ”why did the pressure cooker explosion only hit me and not you?”

Zhao Rong chuckled and pulled the Dragon Crystal from his pocket. ”With this thing,” he said, ”what’s there to fear?”

The Dragon Crystal was a powerful defensive artifact. Simply carrying it on one’s person was enough to generate a significant protective barrier.

When Johnny saw that Zhao Rong was protected by a Dragon Crystal, he was completely stunned. He had never imagined that such a plain-looking bodyguard would possess one.

At the same time, Johnny was also shocked at how Zhao Rong had managed to use those worthless, common, leftover herbs to refine such a dazzling upgrade Elixir.

He stared at Zhao Rong in shock. This is impossible! You’re not an Alchemist above level fifty. You can’t possibly refine ordinary herbs into an Elixir of such high quality.

What Johnny didn’t know was that when Zhao Rong saw the herbs he’d been given were clearly inferior to Johnny’s, he had immediately decided to pay him back in kind. If you can cheat, why can’t I?

And so, Zhao Rong had quietly tossed the Snake Crystal and Snake Gallbladder he’d gotten from Medusa of the Serpent Folk, as well as the Immortal Herbs he’d obtained from a giant dragon, into the pressure cooker to be refined. However, because Zhao Rong didn’t know that Snake Gallbladder and Snake Crystal were naturally incompatible and required licorice as a neutralizing agent, an explosion had occurred.

It was a mixed blessing; the force of the blast had actually accelerated Zhao Rong’s refinement process.

Seeing Zhao Rong holding his Elixir, Johnny scrambled around on the ground. After a full ten minutes, he finally found the Elixir he had refined. Clutching his last sliver of hope, he addressed the surrounding students.

”Look closely, everyone! Although Zhao Rong’s alchemy speed was a little bit faster than mine, it doesn’t matter! Even if he’s fast, the Elixir he made is useless! It won’t grant a level-up when consumed! Whereas my Elixir, although slower to refine, will definitely grant a level-up upon consumption!”

As he spoke, Johnny tossed the Elixir he had refined into his mouth and swallowed it. Then, he looked at Zhao Rong and scoffed, ”Kid, what’s the point of being fast? Look at my Elixir. It was slow to make, but it dissolves instantly and will grant me a level-up right away.”

Before Johnny had even finished his sentence, Zhao Rong popped the Elixir in his hand into his mouth and chewed it up like a calcium tablet.

When Johnny saw that Zhao Rong didn’t even know the most basic way to consume an Elixir, he roared with laughter. ”Kid, you don’t even know that Elixirs are meant to be swallowed, not chewed! You don’t know the first thing about taking them, and you think you can beat me? What a foolish dream!”

Just as Johnny felt confident he had crushed Zhao Rong, the referee walked over with a Level Tester.

The referee tested Johnny first, then shook his head. ”Johnny, what happened? Not only did you not level up, you actually dropped a level.”

Hearing this, Johnny’s eyes widened in disbelief. ”Your Level Tester must be broken! How could I have dropped a level instead of gaining one?”

With that, Johnny snatched the Level Tester from the referee’s hand and rushed over to Zhao Rong. ”Zhao Rong, I know for a fact you didn’t level up! Now, let me use this to expose your lie!”

Confident that the Elixir Zhao Rong had refined was useless, Johnny placed the Level Tester on him. At the same time, he shouted to the students, ”Everyone, watch closely! The Level Tester is about to show that Zhao Rong didn’t level up at all!”

But before Johnny could finish speaking, the device lit up with the results: Zhao Rong’s cultivation level had increased by two. He had leaped directly from a level fifteen cultivator to a level seventeen cultivator.
