Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Chapter 95: Chapter 81: The Forgetfulness Pill, Making You Forget All Worries

When Zhao Rong heard the Chairman wanted to throw his assistant into the sea, he couldn’t help but stare. He’s the city’s richest man, all right. No wonder they say you can’t be a great man without a touch of ruthlessness. Zhao Rong stepped forward to stop him. ”Chairman, if you still consider me, Zhao Rong, a human being, then please trust my Art of Alchemy. As long as your assistant takes my Elixir of Oblivion, I guarantee he’ll forget everything that happened today, including your secret...”

Hearing this, the Chairman looked at Zhao Rong’s determined face and took a step back. ”Fine. I can see you’re a man of courage, so I’ll listen to you today and spare the kid.” With that, the two left the alley and arrived at a nearby village. Zhao Rong lowered the assistant from his shoulder. This guy usually seems to weigh just over a hundred pounds. Why does he feel so heavy today?

Just as Zhao Rong was complaining that the assistant was heavier than a dead pig, the Chairman’s secretary approached with the materials he needed. The secretary wore glasses and bore a startling resemblance to Cang... Zhao Rong greeted her, ”Hello, Miss Secretary. My name is Zhao Rong. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

The secretary gave Zhao Rong a soft, affectionate look and replied, ”Hello. It’s a pleasure to meet you too... My surname is Cang, and my name is... Kong...”

Hearing her name was Cang... Kong..., Zhao Rong nearly tripped and fell over in shock. The Chairman really is something else. Money truly does make the world go round. To think he could even hire *her* as a secretary.

At that moment, the secretary gently handed the herbs to the Chairman. ”Boss, here are the herbs you requested.” The Chairman, seeing the top-quality herbs, immediately passed them to Zhao Rong. ”I bought a double portion. Feel free to use as much as you need for the alchemy.”

Seeing the double portion, Zhao Rong nodded. These herbs are already expensive. For the Chairman to buy so much... what a waste. With that, he began the alchemy.

As Zhao Rong started, the Chairman mused to himself. It’s been a while since I sent my daughter Lili, her bodyguard Zhao Rong, and several of her beautiful classmates to the True Martial Sect. They should have learned a fair bit about alchemy by now, shouldn’t they? He watched Zhao Rong’s technique for washing the herbs. This Zhao Rong must be a professional. He’ll definitely use a Medicinal Cauldron and Samadhi Fire for the alchemy. It looks like I’ll only have to wait a few hours for the elixir to be ready.

Just as the Chairman was eagerly anticipating Zhao Rong bringing out a magnificent, large medicine cauldron unique to the True Martial Sect, Zhao Rong suddenly pulled out a pressure cooker. When the Chairman saw the vessel for the alchemy was not a large medicine cauldron but a pressure cooker, his jaw nearly hit the floor.

Wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, the Chairman tried to reassure himself. Never mind. So he doesn’t have a Medicinal Cauldron and only has a pressure cooker... I still believe in him. He must have Samadhi Fire, at least, right? Otherwise, how could he possibly perform alchemy? But just as the Chairman was thinking that Zhao Rong must surely have Samadhi Fire despite lacking a large medicine cauldron, Zhao Rong built a regular fire on the ground right in front of him and placed the pressure cooker on top.

When the Chairman saw that Zhao Rong lacked not only a large medicine cauldron but also Samadhi Fire, he collapsed onto the ground in terror. ”Zhao Rong, don’t tell me you don’t actually know how to perform alchemy!” Clearly, after seeing Zhao Rong’s equipment, the Chairman no longer believed he could do it. At the same time, the secretary stared with wide eyes. ”Zhao Rong, do you really know how to do this?”

Hearing their doubts, Zhao Rong just smiled. ”Who says you can’t create a top-quality elixir without a large medicine cauldron and Samadhi Fire?” With that, he began. Zhao Rong meticulously followed the steps and formula from the alchemy manual, placing the herbs into the pressure cooker—which was filled with purified water—in a specific order and combination. He performed each step methodically. By this point, Zhao Rong had the alchemy manual memorized, so while it might have looked like he was randomly tossing in herbs and stirring haphazardly, he knew exactly what he was doing.

After adding the herbs to the pressure cooker, he precisely controlled the heat of the fire. In accordance with the alchemy manual’s requirements for concocting the Elixir of Oblivion, he would sometimes intensify the flames and at other times extinguish them completely. In short, his control over the fire was incredibly precise.

In contrast to Zhao Rong’s intense focus, the Chairman and his secretary were muttering to each other on the side. The Chairman held out little hope for Zhao Rong’s success. ”Ah, Ms. Cang,” he said, ”I really don’t think he knows what he’s doing. His equipment, his technique... it’s just so unprofessional.”

The secretary agreed, frowning. ”Sigh, to think such precious herbs are being wasted by him. What a shame.”

Although the Chairman and the secretary were sighing and had no optimism about Zhao Rong succeeding—in fact, they didn’t believe he could perform alchemy at all—their chatter didn’t distract him. Zhao Rong was someone who took his work very seriously and focused intently; if he was going to do something, he was going to do it right.

The Chairman suddenly let out a long sigh. ”If I’d known he was so inept,” he said to his secretary, ”we would have been better off spending some money to have these herbs taken to a professional Alchemy Room in the city. We wouldn’t be wasting our time here, only to end up drawing water with a bamboo basket.”

The secretary also replied with regret, ”Chairman, if I had known you hired such an amateur alchemist, I wouldn’t have brought you these precious ingredients.”

But just as the Chairman was convinced Zhao Rong would fail, just as the secretary thought he was wasting time... BANG! Suddenly, the pressure cooker shot up from the fire, flying high into the air. Quicker than the eye could see, Zhao Rong leaped up, caught the pressure cooker with both hands, and landed back on the ground.

Zhao Rong was already drenched in sweat. Wiping his face, he grinned and announced, ”Chairman, Miss Secretary, the Elixir of Oblivion is a success.”

Hearing that Zhao Rong had successfully concocted the Elixir of Oblivion in such a short time—without a large medicine cauldron or Samadhi Fire—the Chairman shot to his feet. He stared at Zhao Rong in disbelief. ”What? You successfully concocted the Elixir of Oblivion? That’s impossible, isn’t it?”

The secretary also stood up, though a hole had been torn in her stockings. She looked at Zhao Rong, unable to believe her eyes. ”Zhao Rong, even a top Alchemist needs at least an hour to make the Elixir of Oblivion. But you, a rookie without a large medicine cauldron or Samadhi Fire, managed it in fifteen minutes? That’s not scientific!”

As they watched, full of doubt, Zhao Rong took the Elixir of Oblivion out of the pressure cooker. A single, slippery black pill, like a black pearl, rolled around in his palm. The Chairman swallowed hard. Looking at the elixir in Zhao Rong’s hand, he asked, ”Zhao Rong, are you sure this elixir was made successfully? And after the assistant takes it, he’ll forget the entire day’s memories?”

The secretary also asked, half-convinced, ”Zhao Rong, is alchemy really this simple? Will the Elixir of Oblivion you made actually work?”

Faced with their skepticism, Zhao Rong took a small knife from his keychain and shaved off a tiny sliver. ”If you don’t believe me, you can try a little. See if a part of your memory disappears.” After speaking, he glanced at the deeply mistrustful Chairman. Although the Chairman didn’t believe the elixir could cause amnesia, he didn’t dare try it. What if it was unexpectedly potent and he forgot some crucial business secret? The losses would be immense.

So, the Chairman looked at his secretary, who now had a small hole in her stockings, and said, ”Ms. Cang..., you try it.”

Hearing this, the secretary, Cang Kong, wanted to refuse. But facing pressure from the Chairman, she ate the tiny piece of the newly concocted Elixir of Oblivion.

Suddenly, after swallowing the elixir, the secretary’s vision went black, and she began frantically stripping off her clothes. Seeing his secretary start to strip after taking the elixir, the Chairman’s eyes went wide. He rounded on Zhao Rong, demanding, ”Zhao Rong, this medicine you made... is it the Elixir of Oblivion, or an aphrodisiac...?”
