Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 646: Chapter 645: The Original Elf

Accompanying Kurumi’s speech, the previously tranquil atmosphere in the living room was swept away, replaced by a cold and tense feeling.

”A madman? Are they human?”

Upon hearing Kurumi’s reply, Fang Zheng slightly frowned, but he wasn’t exactly surprised — to be honest, after experiencing the Pitch Black World and feeling the utmost evil from humankind, nothing about what humans could do surprised him anymore.

”No.”

However, this time, Kurumi’s answer unexpectedly shook Fang Zheng as she shook her head.

”It’s an elf.”

As she spoke, Kurumi extended her hands.

”Chronos—Tenth Bullet.”

As Kurumi spoke, two guns, one long, and one short, appeared in her hands, aimed at Fang Zheng and Yoshino.

”Mr. Fang Zheng, little sister Yoshino, are you ready? If you are willing, then next, you will see the whole truth... Believe me, it’s not going to be pleasant.”

”...I personally don’t mind, but... Yoshino?”

Fang Zheng was confident in his own resilience, but when he looked at Yoshino, he hesitated. Given Yoshino’s immature mind, he wasn’t sure what Kurumi had gone through in the past, but anyone who would kill to achieve their goals must have been through something significant. Fang Zheng was worried whether Yoshino could handle it at all.

”Mr. Fang Zheng... I... I’m okay too.”

Confronted with Fang Zheng’s question, Yoshino gently nodded. However, this time, Fang Zheng didn’t make a decision right away. Instead, he squatted down and stared at the young girl in front of him.

”Don’t be stubborn, Yoshino. You’re a kind and good kid. But honestly, I’m not sure if the truth is something you can handle. You might not realize it, but there are a lot of things in this world that are very evil, cruel, and unacceptable. It could have irreversible effects on you, even causing unimaginable pain. If you are scared, you can choose to refuse. No one will mock or scorn you... And importantly, I don’t want you to get hurt, understand?”

Upon hearing Fang Zheng’s words, Yoshino seemed hesitant for a moment. She glanced at Fang Zheng, then looked at Kurumi. Afterwards, Yoshino lowered her head, biting her lip in thought, then she clenched her fists, raising her head.

”I understand... But, Brother Zheng, I am also an elf. I know nothing about myself, and I want to know everything... Even... even if it might be very painful... But I feel... I should face it all...”

As she spoke, a blush appeared on Yoshino’s face.

”And... Mr. Fang Zheng once said that running away won’t solve anything. I... I think I can’t run away, and... and...”

Yoshino’s voice grew quieter, and eventually, the little one blushed and lowered her head, not voicing her last thought.

And... I don’t want to be the only one who doesn’t know something...

”Alright then.”

Although Fang Zheng didn’t know what Yoshino wanted to say, he was aware how difficult it was for this fragile little girl to make up her mind. He couldn’t bear to deter her further, so Fang Zheng nodded. Then he reached out, gently cupping Yoshino’s small face, looking into her azure eyes.

”So, Yoshino, remember this. No matter what happens, no matter what you learn, I will be by your side, alright?”

”Yes... Mr. Fang Zheng...”

Upon hearing these words, the last bit of nervousness in Yoshino’s eyes dissolved, and seeing the little one’s smile, Fang Zheng stroked Yoshino’s small head gently and then stood up to look at Kurumi.

”Okay, Miss Kurumi, you can—what’s the matter?”

Before he could finish speaking, Fang Zheng noticed Kurumi staring blankly at him, as if lost in thought. Hearing Fang Zheng’s questioning, Kurumi seemed startled for a moment before shaking her head to regain her composure.

”No... I just think... it’s really great that Yoshino has you by her side. If I had someone like you with me back then...”

As she said this, Kurumi’s lips slightly curled up in a mocking smile.

”No, it’s impossible, isn’t it?”

While speaking, Kurumi once again raised the two guns in her hands, aiming at Fang Zheng and Yoshino.

”Mr. Fang Zheng, please don’t resist, okay? Otherwise, it will fail... Tenth Bullet!”

”Bang!”

This time, Fang Zheng didn’t use the power of the Time Dragon to resist. At the moment he felt his body being struck, everything in front of his eyes began to shift.

Then, he saw... the life of a girl named Tokisaki Kurumi.

Kurumi in the past was an ordinary girl, a graceful young lady who attended a girls’ school, studying and living life. In many ways, she was no different from the young ladies Fang Zheng had seen in numerous animations. Back then, Kurumi was just a regular person, and that was all.

But one day, everything changed.

One evening, on her way home from school, Kurumi was attacked.

From the terrifying attack of an alien creature, just as Kurumi was about to be killed, a girl suddenly appeared and saved her life.

The girl’s name was Mio Suginomiya.

From Mio Suginomiya, Tokisaki Kurumi learned the ”truth” about this world.

The maddened creatures attacking her were called Elves, terrifying monsters that had lost their reason. Only by killing them could the world be saved.

It was then that Mio Suginomiya extended an invitation to Kurumi.

”...I hope you can defeat these Elves and save the world.”

Just like the plot of a Magical Girl anime, Tokisaki Kurumi, like the protagonist of such anime, accepted Mio Suginomiya’s request and thus received the Spirit Crystal given to her by Mio, along with the power of Divine Might Gear, the third, and the Angel, Chronos, capable of manipulating time and shadows.

After that, Kurumi joined Mio Suginomiya in hunting down the rogue Elves appearing in the city. Kurumi was responsible for defeating these Elves, while Mio assisted and handled the aftermath by her side. Kurumi was very satisfied with this life. She liked it too; usually, in front of others, Kurumi played the role of the perfect, flawless Young Lady, but under the cover of night, she transformed into a hunter of Elves, eradicating those out-of-control Elves together with Mio.

In that moment, Kurumi’s voice rose in Fang Zheng’s ears.

”Back then, that’s what I believed.”

As Kurumi spoke, the scene before Fang Zheng’s eyes began to change again, showing Kurumi on a rooftop. Beside her stood a girl with silver-white, long hair. After a brief conversation, Mio Suginomiya spread her arms, and soon, a barrier-like structure unfolded. Along with the spread of the barrier, a sudden, endless blizzard appeared before Kurumi.

Suddenly, an entity resembling a condensed figure of ice and snow emerged from the storm, roaring as it launched an attack on Kurumi.

”Hmm?”

But looking at the ice and snow before him, Fang Zheng frowned. Although its form was somewhat different, this power seemed to him as if it were...

Before Fang Zheng could figure it out, Kurumi had already summoned her Spirit Armor and Angel, and began a fierce battle with the Elf before her, eventually securing victory.

After that, Kurumi eliminated one Elf after another...until that day arrived.

Until then, Kurumi had thought that this life would continue indefinitely.

It was a day no different from any other.

With the support of Mio Suginomiya, Kurumi defeated an Elf that manipulated fire. Then, as usual, she planned to leave after completing the task. Because Kurumi’s close friend had invited her to visit and meet her cat’s kittens, naturally, she was filled with anticipation.

It was then that a sudden thought crossed Kurumi’s mind.

It was this casual idea that changed Kurumi’s fate.

Why not invite Mio along?

At that time, Kurumi simply wanted Mio to join her in visiting her friend’s house to enjoy the company of cats; after all, she and Mio had never spoken outside of the battlefield. In Kurumi’s eyes, Mio was also a friend. If it’s something enjoyable, naturally she wanted to share it with her friend. Also, Kurumi had noticed that Mio’s gaze often carried a melancholic look, so she hoped to bring happiness to Mio as well.

But when Kurumi returned to the battlefield, she was shocked to discover something.

Lying on the ground was no longer the Elf she had just killed, enveloped in flames,

but a human girl.

What’s more, it was a girl Kurumi knew.

Because she was the very friend who had invited Kurumi to her house for socializing—Sawa Yamada.

”This...how...what is this...”

Seeing the scene before her, Kurumi was completely stunned, her mind a whirlwind of confusion, totally unable to understand what had happened.

Just then, Mio Suginomiya slowly stood up from beside the girl’s body, turning to look at Kurumi.

”...Ah, Kurumi. Did you see...It’s regrettable, I was hoping to be your partner for a little longer...”

As Mio spoke, she turned and in her hands, Kurumi saw a crystal shining with a red radiance...just like the Spirit Crystal Mio had given her.

”...Why would classmate Sawa...what is this...”

Looking at the scene before her, Kurumi involuntarily took a small step back. Although she asked the question, she probably already knew the answer in her heart...yet still, her brain seemed to be rejecting the answer. Upon hearing Kurumi’s question, the girl known as Mio Suginomiya just revealed a slight smile.

”Ah? Was this child an acquaintance of yours? Then that really is...sorry...”

”......”

In that moment, the false dream finally shattered, and the harsh reality starkly revealed itself before Kurumi.
