Chapter 604: Chapter 603: Omen of Mutation

”............”

Standing dumbly in front of the staircase, he watched the figure holding the greatsword, and beads of sweat involuntarily rolled down the blonde man’s forehead.

Fear.

Before the attack on HELLSING, he had indeed heard rumors about HELLSING’s newly recruited hunter, but the blonde man hadn’t taken it to heart. He had once been a human, a mortal; he knew the limits of humanity. It was for this reason that he decisively abandoned his human identity to become a... vampire.

He had gained tremendous power, that which was beyond human: speed, strength, reflexes, and the formidable power of immortality.

After that, he thought he had left fear behind, forgotten fear.

But now, as he looked at the figure of the man standing on the steps, he felt the fear that he thought he had forgotten returning.

The sword stroke Fang Zheng had just performed had not hit him, not because Fang Zheng had missed, but because he hadn’t intended to hit him in the first place. Although the blonde man also tried to use his superhuman speed to evade Fang Zheng’s strike, he was horrified to find that he couldn’t avoid it at all!

The sword, though not meant to harm him, seemed to trap him like a massive vortex, preventing the blonde man from daring to move a step; his instincts told him that any movement would result in him being torn to shreds by the sword, just like those ghouls!

How was this possible? The man wasn’t a vampire, but a human!

How could a human possess the power to instill fear in a powerful vampire like himself?!

”A mere little bat...”

Fang Zheng said softly, a slight smile playing at his lips as he descended the steps, his gaze fixed on the blonde man.

”...dares to speak of power before me?”

”You... you...”

The blonde man’s eyes widened with fear; he could see Fang Zheng’s eyes gradually changing from ordinary human pupils to golden vertical slits. Merely being stared at by these eyes made the blonde man’s skin crawl. An imperceptible sense of oppression emerged as if material force grasped his heart.

”What... what are you?”

”It seems you don’t know how to behave, nor how to speak,” Fang Zheng commented.

As Fang Zheng spoke, his greatsword unfolded into a chain sword, whipping rapidly toward the blonde man. The latter felt a burning pain on his face and was sent spinning and screaming through the air, crashing into the wall behind him, creating a large hole.

”Don’t... don’t come any closer!”

The blonde man was now completely devoid of the civility and arrogance he had previously exhibited. He lay collapsed on the ground, feeling as though he couldn’t control his limbs. Though his rational mind told him he should stand up and fight the man before him, the stare from those golden eyes made him feel as helpless as a mouse quivering before a cat.

”Come, little bat, show me your power.”

Fang Zheng approached the blonde man with measured steps, his cold gaze never leaving him. He could feel a wild, beastly power swelling within him, derived from the genetic makeup of the Time Dragon and the Zerg. Something inside him seemed to be waking up, for reasons he didn’t understand. Indeed, the sight of the blonde man had gradually evoked this sensation in him.

A ferocious, primitive sense of slaughter and icy death.

”Tell me, little guy,” Fang Zheng said as he extended the greatsword, gently tapping the blonde man’s cheek.

”Where is this so-called power of yours? Show me. Do you possess the might to create or destroy worlds? Can you summon thunder and the radiance of the sun? Can you tame an ancient dragon to fight for you? Can you create a painted world to wait out your death in? Or perhaps, can you create a nightmare where all the lowly creatures tremble, one where they endure endless cycles of terror?”

”You, you, what are you talking about?”

The blonde man looked at Fang Zheng dumbfounded, drenched in sweat. He wasn’t a fool; if he hadn’t realized there was something off about Fang Zheng by now, then he indeed needed to seriously consider seeing an ophthalmologist.

”Who the hell are you?”

”You don’t need to know.”

While speaking, Fang Zheng raised the greatsword in his hand—The next moment, flames began to fiercely burn from the pitch black blade.

”Well, although you’re nothing compared to Alucard, even a mosquito is still meat, at least you are of much better quality than those lesser vampires and ghouls...”

”Ahhhhhhhh!!”

At that moment, the man seemed to instinctively realize the fate he was about to face. Perhaps the will to live granted him courage, as he suddenly leapt up, screaming, and pulled two guns from his clothes, aiming at Fang Zheng and forcefully pulling the triggers!

”Bang Bang Bang!!”

The bullets whizzed past Fang Zheng, without even touching the hem of his clothes, and directly hit the wall behind him. For a vampire, this was clearly an impossibility. However, at this moment, the blond man no longer wanted to pay attention to all this, for the only thought in his mind was—escape!

At that moment, the blond man forgot his mission, his purpose, why he had come here; he instinctively just wanted to flee from Fang Zheng, from this man, from this cursed place, from everything!

The blond man was fast, his body almost turning into a straight line, dashing to the other side of the corridor like lightning. For a moment, he even thought that he might actually learn the legendary vampire teleportation skill.

But illusions were, after all, just illusions.

”Ahhhhhhhh!!”

The pitch black greatsword, ablaze with flames, shot out from behind the blond man, piercing through his body and nailing him firmly to the floor. Feeling the agony that nearly burned his soul, the blond man couldn’t help but scream. He struggled madly, twisting his body, trying to escape the terrible pain, but Fang Zheng’s greatsword pressed down on him ruthlessly, making it impossible for him to move an inch.

”No! No!! Help me! Help!!”

”How about it? Little bat?”

Looking at the desperately struggling blond man below, Fang Zheng grinned, revealing a smug smile.

”Is this the power you were hoping for? Do you feel it? Such screams are truly delightful...”

As Fang Zheng spoke, the flames spreading from the greatsword slowly began to devour and scorch the blond man’s innards and skin, making the blond man let out an inhumane wail. But for Fang Zheng, it seemed like a melodious symphony; he slowly rotated the greatsword in his hand, extracting the last drops of pain from the blond man...

”Master, your condition is very wrong.”

At that moment, Ester’s voice suddenly rang in Fang Zheng’s ear. Hearing this voice, Fang Zheng was startled, then quickly snapped back to reality and looked at the blond man once more.

What was I just doing?

Only now did Fang Zheng realize his behavior had been quite abnormal. At first, it was normal, but when the blond man provoked him, a thought suddenly surfaced in Fang Zheng’s deep consciousness, ”This bastard has not only interrupted my date with Ester but also had the audacity to act all high and mighty in front of Laozi, he’s simply asking for death... So Laozi will let him feel what I’m made of!”

What’s more, Fang Zheng’s subconscious felt that there was nothing wrong with that thought, and he had acted accordingly! He even wanted to let this idiot truly experience what the realization of power was, then torture this damned unfortunate piece by piece to death... to enjoy his miserable howls and pleas for mercy...

Damn it, is this the influence of the Abyss?

Fang Zheng gritted his teeth and shook his head. If it wasn’t for Ester’s sudden reminder, Fang Zheng might have been in trouble. But fortunately, he pulled back in the nick of time...

With that thought, Fang Zheng refocused his attention; the screams and wails of the blond man no longer sounded so ”pleasing.” And after that earlier moment, Fang Zheng didn’t want to entangle with this guy anymore; with a cold snort, flames rose up the next moment, instantly burning the blond man into ash.

”Phew...”

Watching the flames die down, Fang Zheng heaved a deep sigh and then closed his eyes.

It seemed, this time, things had gotten complicated.
