Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 626: Chapter 625: I Must Have Brought a World-Destroying BUFF with Me

Regarding the two new features introduced by the system, Fang Zheng had carefully investigated them, only to find that both features were very... well, how should I say, quite peculiar.

After the restart and repair of the Dimensional Codex System, a strange black window appeared on the information interface in front of Fang Zheng, which was one of the new features that appeared after the system reboot — the Dice of Fate.

[Dice of Fate: The destinies in this world vary greatly, and every choice you make could lead to unexpected consequences. Amidst the fog of destiny, you will never know what you might discover (A random mission is generated each time you enter a new world, and whether you complete it or not, you will randomly receive a limited-time BUFF or DEBUFF.)]

This feature, on the surface, was enough to feel eerie. If random missions were still considered normal, the subsequent effect was problematic; according to its literal meaning, whether Fang Zheng completed the mission or not, he would receive a time-limited BUFF or DEBUFF through the [Dice of Fate].

However, the problem lay right here. At first glance, this prompt seemed unproblematic, but Fang Zheng quickly noticed that its condition was [randomly obtained]. This meant that even if he didn’t complete the mission, he might receive a BUFF, but if he completed it, he could also end up with a DEBUFF... This meant that the mission was not obligatory to complete but rather required Fang Zheng to weigh whether to complete it himself. One had to admit, this thing seemed suspiciously like a trap.

As for why this feature appeared...

Fang Zheng silently glanced at the Chaos Flames.

Yep, there was no doubt these chaotic and utterly illogical events were the hallmark of chaos.

The other function was the [Soul Pact]. Compared to the [Dice of Fate], the effect of [Soul Pact] was much clearer. Fang Zheng could, by spending a certain amount of points, transform people from other worlds into the existence of Soulstones. At first glance, this seemed to conflict with [Dimensional Passage], but that wasn’t actually the case. [Dimensional Passage] teleported people from other worlds into this world, but they would return to their own worlds once the limited time ended.

However, the [Soul Pact] effectively removed the person from their original world and made them residents of Fang Zheng’s world.

For Fang Zheng, [Soul Pact] seemed to have no use for now, but who knows about the future? Maybe in some world, Fang Zheng could find beings to form a pact with.

Then, it was time to leave.

Fang Zheng reached out and touched the Dimensional Codex. Soon, a ring of burning flames emerged from the Codex, spinning to form a flaming doorway — ever since Fang Zheng had started using his own Soulfire as the system’s energy source, its manifestations seemed to be aligning more with his own form.

Who knew what the next world would be like.

Looking at the flaming time travel gateway in front of him, Fang Zheng took a deep breath and then boldly stepped through.

The next moment, Fang Zheng felt as though he had stepped on some kind of ignition device. The moment he entered the Daimon, his whole body trembled violently, and he immediately fell downwards. It felt as if someone had tied hundreds of kilograms of heavy stones to Fang Zheng’s feet and thrown him off a cliff.

Apart from the darkness and the howling wind around him, Fang Zheng could see nothing and hear nothing, but soon, lines of light began to appear before his eyes. It wasn’t long before a dazzling Radiance suddenly surrounded him.

”Boom!!”

Fang Zheng fell heavily to the ground, kicking up dust around him.

”Cough, cough cough, this damn broken thing... can’t it be a bit more reliable?”

Fang Zheng stood up, waving his hand to disperse the dust in front of him while complaining. Thinking about it, compared to the previous times, the two trips since the system switched its power source didn’t seem very pleasant... Never mind these trivial matters. Even though he had been thrown from several hundred meters in the air, he was still alive, so he might as well see what kind of world this was.

By now, the dust around him had cleared, and what Fang Zheng saw was a street that exuded a strong modern urban atmosphere.

Well, the backdrop of this world should be modern, and then...

Fang Zheng turned his head and glanced around.

Where is everyone?

Fang Zheng was currently at a crossroads, next to a department store and various other shops. From the sky, it seemed to be daytime, but strangely, not a single person could be seen. Although the traffic lights were functioning normally, there was nothing else here.

No people, no cars, no police. Despite the loud noise, no one came out to check the situation.

”What’s going on with this world?”

Looking at the empty world before him, Fang Zheng was baffled.

Was it the apocalypse? An Angel Envoy invasion? Or perhaps a Sealing?

Regardless, he decided to start investigating.

With this thought, Fang Zheng immediately began to investigate the surroundings. It didn’t take long for him to gain a preliminary understanding of this world.

According to the city’s signage, this seemed to be a Japanese city, but for some reason, there were no words on any of the signboards or similar items. Other than that, the situation here was also very odd. Although from the outside, the buildings looked normal, when Fang Zheng entered, he found them completely empty, without any interior decoration or furniture, resembling unfinished buildings.

In other words, this was a ”facade” city; it looked like a regular city from the outside, but was empty inside.

What in the world was this place?

Fang Zheng wandered around for a long time, without finding any clues, and his confusion only grew. Just by looking, he could tell there was something clearly wrong with this world. Although he considered the possibility that this was part of some planned Simulated City, the scale of work would have been enormous. Building an entire city wasn’t something that could be explained away just by saying there was excessive funding, especially considering that the buildings were entirely empty inside.

There were no people here, no sounds; the entire world seemed dead.

Was there such a world?

If Fang Zheng remembered correctly, the worlds he had always time-traveled to were those of games or animated films, which no matter good or bad, at least had a story. And stories naturally have protagonists, because without them, a story cannot go on. Without a protagonist, that’s called a scenery film, but this place... didn’t seem suitable even for a scenery film.

Moreover, what felt somewhat off to Fang Zheng was the world itself. Although everything looked normal from the outside, Fang Zheng could faintly sense a feeling of closure, as if it were enveloped by a Barrier that isolated cause and effect. However, compared to a Sealing, this aura wasn’t as intense here, and there seemed to be some clear differences between the two.

”What in the world is this place?”

Fang Zheng walked around the city all day until the sun set, and still, he didn’t see a single person, which deeply frustrated him. Seeing that it was getting dark and he had nowhere to go, Fang Zheng decided to lie down on a bench in a nearby park to rest.

”It really is quiet here. Speaking of which, this wouldn’t be a horror film, would it? It really gives me the creeps.”

Looking at the park lit by lights and devoid of any sound, Fang Zheng yawned.

Although he still didn’t know what kind of world this was, it seemed there were no people so far; if there really was no other way... he might just burn this world down.

With this thought, Fang Zheng closed his eyes and soon fell into a sleep.
